Chapter 74: Much needed praise
Alaric quickly vanished from there and reappeared at the spot where he had buried the core. This unintentional decision is going to help his liege very much, and Alaric was proud of the fact that he was the one who had decided to do this. Whether this was something he should be proud of or not, he didn’t care.
After digging up the hole, he breathed a sigh of relief when noticed that the core was still safe and sound, lying there.
"Phew! Thank god the core is still here.’ he thought, imagining how embarrassing it would have been if he felt proud and everything and the core were gone.
The core had managed to survive because hundreds of monsters had gone so insane and that’s why they didn’t even notice the core even while trampling all over it. If this had happened in the wave before this one, the monsters would have literally dug up the hole in the ground and pulled out the core.
He looked at the glittering core in the hole and he couldn’t pick up all of them at the same time, so he grabbed as many as he could and vanished before reappearing near Dhruv. Placing the core near him, he disappeared once again, repeating this three more times until all the cores had been transported.
Looking at how he had managed to retrieve this many cores this quickly, a suspicious arose in his mind so he asked him,
"Have you been saving these cores instead of absorbing them," Questioned Dhruv. After all, bringing almost two hundred cores in just one minute isn’t possible and that’s why he had ordered him to bring as many as he can and not any quantified amount.
"No, we have always been pritiozing the absorbing of the core but last time we hadn’t had enough time to absorb them before the wave would start. So, ultimately ’I’ decided to hide them." Explained Alaic.
"Oh! Then really ’clever of you,’ Alaric," Dhruv praised him when he noticed that he had emphasized the word "I" in his speech, a subtle clue that he wanted some praise. Alaric didn’t find anything wrong with it, so he praised him a bit.
"By the way Alaric which wave is this," Dhruv asked.
"Eight or fourth if you wanted for the second day," Alric replied.
He had a subtle suspicion that this was the eighth wave when he noticed it was nighttime, but asked nonetheless.
Nodding, he turned his gaze toward the pile of cores. Satisfied with the number of cores, he began to crush them one by one, absorbing the mana within. It took him a while, but after absorbing the mana from almost eighty cores, he felt completely full.
Leaving the remaining cores on the ground for future absorption if needed, he turned to face the monsters. With a creepy smile, he lifted his hand toward the monsters who were now fighting amongst themselves for some strange reason.
He couldn’t even find any reason why this wave was so unique First that unique monster—whose name he didn’t even notice in the kill notification— and now this bizarre behavior of these monsters.
But none of this was his fault—that’s what he thought at least—so he began preparing the first spell, which was also his iconic and the first one he had learned. The wondrous spell is called "Metal Arrow".
The moment he cast the spell he could feel the difference—between before and after the evolution—as clear as the sky. The first and the most noticeable was the time. He could now cast the metal arrow in almost half the time as before. The second was even more ridiculous than this one...
"Casting the spell, it just felt as natural as breathing," he thought. He thought this because he knew the feeling of casting the spell as a human, and it wasn’t pleasant. He wasn’t going to consider that feeling uncomfortable or anything like that, but it just didn’t feel right, like he was doing something he wasn’t meant for.
But now... now he felt like he was made for this stuff.
"So, this decrease in casting time must be the result of the addition of mana veins, and the familiar feeling is maybe due to my evolution..." he whispers. He considered the latter as maybe because he wasn’t a hundred percent sure either. Before he could ponder any further, he noticed that his victim of the metal bullet was about to die, so he looked at him with full concentration, waiting for something...
A smile hung over his face as his wait was over and the notification finally came..
[You have killed a monster: Adult Goblins]
[You have gained exp]
[You have earned 100 CC]
"Ha hahaha hahaha"
He frantically began to laugh when came to the fact that he indeed could earn more exp and earn coins. He began thinking maybe he could now progress twice as fast as anything on this planet.
"Hahahh I knew fusing the core was the right choice. Hahaha I knew that all among"
He was laughing hysterically when he realized something. The more this realization sunk deep his laughter began to change into that of a frown.
’Huh! Why am I not getting exp from the trio to kill,’ Dhruv thought, he found this weird, as he should have been receiving the exp from their kill as well, but he wasn’t getting a single notification of their kills.
He wanted to focus all his mental power to solve this and clear all his suspicions but this wasn’t exactly the time to do so he redirected his focus toward the monsters.
’Now it’s time for big guns,’
With his test done, he began the preparation for the launch of the enhanced spells. He fired them and the result was the same as before if not even more powerful than before.
He prepared the third skill and the moment he was about to launch an idea came into his mind...
"What if I use multiply after all Two is always better than one,"
Much needed praise
