Chapter 67: Mindless
Alaric noticed something different about them, they had gone insane... totally insane. In the earlier wave, they were mad but at least had enough intelligence to defend or attack them.
And they were happy when their intelligence was reduced to the bare minimum, but now...
Now, from the looks of it, they seemed to lose even their most basic instincts. Yes, the very instincts that help them survive, the same instincts that let them survive in the jungle.
They had lost all their instinct and the only thing on their mind was to run toward the egg.
Alaric still hadn’t figured out the reason behind their sudden insanity and it wasn’t the time to figure out it either.
He looked around and noticed that goblins weren’t the only ones who had become the prey of this unknown madness. Spiders and even the most magical crystal had bent their knees in front of this unknown madness.
The weird part was that the monsters weren’t the only ones. Alaric noticed that even the birds flying in the sky were trying to dive on the island toward the egg
Alaric was about to dive into the shadow to go near the egg so he could protect it, then suddenly a thought appeared in his mind...
No "Appear" was the wrong word, the proper thing to say was that a thought was planted in his mind...
A thought began to shroud every part of his being,
’How powerful is that m@#$t? I should consu...’ with this thought, Alaric began to look at Dhruv’s egg with a different type of gaze.
His gaze began to fill with greed but even more powerful than that was his unrestrained hunger...
His thought was about to overwhelm him when a weird current ran all over his body. The instant the current ran all over his body he regained all his senses.
"What was that..." Alaric whispered while trembling.
He pauses for a moment
"WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT"
"WHO THE FUCK DID THAT TO MEEE.." he shouted as he look at the sky.
Upon regaining his senses, he realized the grave mistake he had come so close to committing. If it weren’t for that current, he was on the verge of considering harming his master, his lord, his god...
HIS EVERYTHING
With a murderous intent, he cast his gaze first upon his brother, his mind still haunted by the memory of that unknown force.
He heaved a sigh of relief when he discovered that his brother had also succeeded in protecting themselves from that evil thought.
Alric looked toward the egg and noticed that Vexar and Azarex were also there, standing guard around it. Their determined eyes were every bit as ferocious as those of the mindless monsters. They were ready to defend the egg, even if it cost their lives.
"Dumm" "Dumm" "Dummm,"
The ground trembled as the horde drew nearer. Diving into the shadow he appeared close to his brothers and noticed that...
Goblins, their eyes shimmering with pure red in the moonlight, were at the forefront and were likely to reach the egg first.
Just behind them were the hordes of spiders, their eight legs moving in eerie harmony. Not getting enough space they began climbing on each other, wanting to reach the egg first no matter what.
On the totally opposite side of them was the monster made out of ice also known as Crystallce. With each of their steps being taken the ground beneath their feet turned into ice.
As the horde surged forward, Alaric, stepped forward...
The master of shadows began using the magic of different elements. With a wave of his hand, multiple layers of transparent shield began to form around them.
With another wave of his hand, he enchanted the shield with the shadows making them twice as strong as before, with shadow mixed in it the transparent shield transformed into a shade of black.
Despite it being black, he could clearly see what was happening outside, and he noticed that...
The giant golem who was outside lifted his hand in the air. The moment he lifted his hand multiple Undead crystallce began to help him in gathering the ice mana.
With the help of multiple Crystallce undeads, it only took him a few seconds to prepare the spell. He cast the spell and a massive yet strong ice shield began to surround them along with Egg and the trio.
The ice shield wasn’t for defense either, as there were really big and strong spikes every few centimeters, covering every inch of the shield.
The spikes weren’t just for the show, no they had a purpose. The spikes were there to prevent the shield from collapsing due to the momentum of the force that would be generated from the monsters’ impact.
The ice wasn’t the only thing for the defense, there were hundreds of undead just under its veil ready to move on the moment. Along with the undead was a lone fire spirit who burned brightly in the chill of the night.
The gang was preparing like this wasn’t a battle anymore but a full-fledged war... a war they had to win no matter the cost.
The monster didn’t make them wait for much longer. Just a few seconds after the shield was cast, the monster was only seconds away from the shield.
Getting the live feed by sharing his vision with one of the undead, Azarex announced " Brace, they have reached the shields."
Acknowledging the fact, Alaric and Vexar nodded at the same time.
Vexar prepared his sword, and Alaric focused his mind to ensure there would be no weakening of his shield’s strength.
"Dummmmmm"
Almost instantly they could feel the impact, fortunately the shield had absorbed the initial impact without any problem.
While the inside of the shield was calm the inside the outside of it was anything but that. The monsters who were in front were gone just like that, and the reason for their death was nothing but the same ice spikes.
Even after death, they didn’t halt their steps one bit, no they increased their step even more when they noticed they were this close to their prize.
