Chapter 66: A weird tattoo
Ten minutes later, all the monsters were dead, and the trio had once again won the battle adding the seventh win in their name.
But this wave had consumed nearly all of the time that was given to them. And there was only one hour remaining before the start of the eighth and final wave of the second day.
Before the start of the new wave, they had a few things to do, so there wasn’t that time to rest so, only Azarex took ten minutes to calm himself down. He wasn’t physically tired, but when it came to mental fatigue, he wasn’t an exception either.
Alaric and Vexar had already rested for a few minutes while Azarex was fighting, so they got up and began salvaging the cores.
They also wanted to eat some so they can acquire essence points to further mutate their body parts.
But doing that would be a massive waste of time without the accompany of Dhruv. When Dhruv was with them, he always fused the monsters so they could absorb more essence and had to eat less.
But now they had to consume more and would on;y gain fewer essence points, as with each evolution, the essence points they received from the monsters would have decreased over time.
So, they had decided to eat only if they had spare time after extracting the cores, which they were almost certain they wouldn’t get.
They began to extract the cores, and after spending 45 minutes on that, they stopped doing that as they needed some time to absorb them as well.
Looking at the untouched monster, Vaxar blurred out, "What a waste."
The trio sat together in a circle with all the extracted cores in the middle. After exchanging glances with each other, they began absorbing the cores...
Disturbing the silence, Vexar spoke up, "How much longer do you think it will take for the master to emerge from the egg?"
"That, I do not know of" Azarex added as he creased the head of his golem.
"Alaric," Vexar addressed, turning to face him.
"I think the reason for the delay is because master must have gotten a powerful evolution or maybe his circumstance is a unique one," he paused to think for a bit then added, " So, the longer it takes, the better the result will be. So don’t be impatient, Vexar," Alaric concluded while exhaling a puff of black smoke from his mouth.
"Olgh! Youu thlought tlhat tho" said while chewing on a core.
"How many times have I told you not to talk while eating, and why are you chewing the core when you could simply absorb it?" Alaric scolded him like the big brother he was.
"I don’t know, maybe because this is the only thing that tastes good, compared to the horrible taste of the monster meat," Vexar answered sarcastically.
"Really?" Alaric asked, genuinely surprised by this new fact.
"Yes!" came the reply.
Alric picked one of the cores and moved it toward his mouth wanting to test how the tasted. The moment Alaric put the core in his mouth, Vexar said something...
"...But remember to absorb the core at the last moment before it dissolves fully, otherwise there is a chance that you will just blast yourself out."
Alaric quickly pucked out the core he had just attempted to taste, as he didn’t have a plan to blast himself out anytime soon.
"Don’t you think you should have said that sooner," he asked.
"Hhahahahahh" Looking at the Alaric face, Vexar couldn’t help but laugh out loud. And mock him further he gulped another core.
Despite he was this close to death, Seeing Vexar’s smile, a small chuckle escaped from Alaric’s mouth, Just a moment later Azarex also joined them.
They laughed and talked for a while before realizing that time was running out. They looked at the remaining core and understood there wouldn’t be enough time to finish absorbing them all, so they dug a hole in the ground and buried the remaining cores in it.
The trio rose from their seats, ready to confront the monsters. As always, Vexar stepped in front of the group, prepared to be the first one to face the creatures head-on.
Now that Vexar was in front of him, Alaric noticed that, there was something wrong with his back.
’What is that?’ With that thought in his mind, he asked Vexar, " Have you learned any new skill that had any relation with you having a tattoo." Alaric asks with a worried expression.
Scratching his head, Vexar tried to remember. After a few seconds of silence, he faced Alaric and replied, "No, why,"
"If not, then why on earth is there a weird star tattoo on the back of your neck," Alaric said as he looked at the tattoo.
He looked at the tattoo and for some unknown reason, he found that the tattoo felt very close to him as if it was a part of...
’Part of what?’ he thought confusingly.
"How would I know," Vexar replied, even more, confused than before..
"Then why is there a tattoo on your back," Alaric said, as he looked at a tattoo.
Before they could finish their conversation a loud shockwave travelled throughout the Island.
This loud shockwave was exactly the sign they were waiting for as this represented the start of a new wave. But this time the origin of the shockwave wasn’t from the gate.
Nooo!
This time the shockwave had originated from the egg.
The trio looked at the egg in surprise, before another shockwave travelled throughout the Island.
And this time, it was the sign that the eighth wave had started.
Thinking this wasn’t the right time to talk about a tattoo he turned around. Now facing the direction from which the Goblins and spiders would come out and began waiting for them.
He didn’t have to wait long, as just a minute later, he could hear the loud sound of their footsteps thumping on the ground.
"Let the fight begin" Alaric heard Vexar shouting.
Nodding, he himself turned ethereal and dived into the shadows, a moment later he got out from the shadow of one of the monsters.
He was about to slice one of their throats when he noticed something...
He noticed that none of the Goblins had cared about him and all of them were running in the same direction...
The moment he looked in their running direction, he almost felt his core shutting down, controlling himself he shouted..
"AZAREX, VEXAR QUICKLY PROTECT THE MASTER’S EGG."
