Chapter 354: Failure

’Hmm! Ten have come...’ Magnus thought, looking at the people sitting in front of him.

Waiting for everyone to settle down he opened his status and looked at how much time they had left.

[Quest Ends: 2 Days 3 Hours 53 Minutes]

As only two days were left before the end of the third quest, Magnus decided to throw a meeting to get the latest information about what was going on around the world. To do that, he called a few important people.

The leader of all four great clans had come, and the government representative was invited as well. The rest were the leaders of the local powerhouses. Of course, these weren’t all; many more had come, but they were having a meeting among themselves.

This meeting consisted only of those at the very top of their field.

Not keen to waste time that could be used to train, Magnus looked in a particular direction and announced, "Let’s start, shall we..."

Nodding his head, a man stood up from his seat and began moving toward the front of the room. The projector turned on as all sorts of data began showing upon it.

Finding that nobody was speaking anymore, the man looked at the projector and opened his mouth, "I’m not going to sugarcoat it... the situation we are in is not looking good... not good at all..."

His voice echoed as everyone could feel the tension in the room.

"Not good... Sigh! How bad are we talking here?" Magnus asked, looking at the man.

"Bad... too bad... if my calculations are correct, then only about 30 or at maximum 35% of the dungeon has been cleared. As you know, we are only two days away from the quest’s end. So yes... it’s not good at all..." the man said, pointing toward the dungeon clear stat.

’How much did we need to clear again...’ Not remembering the exact percentage, the lady wearing a white gown opened her status and looked at the quest menu.

"We are only halfway there..." Magnus sighed, not happy with their odds.

"The punishment shouldn’t be that bad, right? Or else it would’ve been mentioned here..." Knowing failure was inevitable at this point, Max asked, looking at the man.

"I think the same... but nothing is certain," the man replied with calmness.

If the failure were to be something like ’Death’ or of the same severity, the man in front of them should have gotten a hint.

"If you say so..."

Everyone in the room collectively heaved a sigh of relief.

There was a reason everyone trusted the man with the information. The man, who was previously a math professor, possessed two exclusive abilities—abilities that are perfect for things like this.

One of them is [Calculate] and the second one is [Probability]. With the combination of these two and all the information available, the man could predict almost everything perfectly.

It was almost perfect because there were things even he couldn’t comprehend, despite his exclusive abilities.

Nodding her head, the head of the Morgans family, Mia, asked, looking at David, "Say, David, what are the team of ’Chosen Ones’ doing?"

"Huh? Me? I don’t know... we don’t control the army anymore... we are strictly focusing on craftsmanship," David replied, shaking his head.

At the start of ICA, all the families had divided which department they would represent, and at that time, because of their influence in the weapons market, the Parkers were tasked with handling the military faction of the ICA.

’You scheming fucking geezers... you want to bury me in the pile of responsibility while personally strengthening your family... not on my watch...’

Like everyone else, Devid understood that possessing the might of a superior military force was advantageous; however, without the ability to control it, such power could swiftly become a dangerous liability.

Eventually, David understands that separating their focus on both the military and weapons would only bring doom to him. Being a devoid lover of craftsman there was no way he could abandon it... so he decided to let go of the military.

The last nail in the coffin was that the Parkers had recently lost most of their manpower due to the monsters’ rampage, leaving them with no choice but to separate that part.

"Who is responsible for them now, then?" Mia asked, lifting one of her eyebrows.

"It’s me..." A man with a shaven beard and stern face replied.

"You! General Alister?" Mia asked, looking at him with shock.

’Why does she seem shocked... it can’t be that she didn’t know about this before...’ looking at Mia, Magnus tried to guess the reason.

"Yes... Master David handed over the authority of the military to me in exchange for priority and some discounts on the resources we get from the dungeons."

Looking at her suspiciously, Alister explained what at this moment was public news—not exactly public, but common knowledge at the people of their level.

"Ohhh!... what are the reports on the task force... what are they doing at the moment? How can we still have this low clear rate considering their powers?" Mia asked, trying to control her emotions.

’The exclusive ability is acting once again...’ she thought, trying to maintain her composure. While everyone is getting a boon due to their exclusive attribute, Mia has gotten exactly the opposite.

"Larry... please," Alister muttered, looking at the man standing in front of them.

"They are doing very well... I mean, if we didn’t have the Chosen Ones with us, I don’t think we would even be able to clear this much dungeon," Larry explained, remembering how valuable these Chosen Ones were to the planet.

Their existence is the only thing that has stopped humanity from going extinct.
