Chapter 151: Blasted by nukes

"Ohh! Yes, I hadn’t mentioned them. I have two grandchildren, one is a boy, 13 years old, and the other is a girl, 15 years old. Their names are Lalu and Lily. They also had their own exclusive ability, but it wasn’t that useful, so I forgot about them, should I ask ."

Dhruv was about to ask about their parents but stopped midway, as he felt that it would be unwise for him to ask and make the old man to remember that thing once again.

The old man didn’t elaborate about his family further and began to explain...

"Time passed, and then the cursed day finally came. At the very morning, we all got the notification about the start of the second quest and what its mission would be.

To know the place of the dungeon, we even had a golden pillar of light guiding us, and guess what, In every location the military had proclaimed as the place where the virus was, there was a crack.

Not only there, but there were many more places. The number of cracks is so much that it was almost blinding... wherever the gaze went, there was a pillar of golden light coming from there."

The old man stopped, paused to take a breath, and continued once again...

"The good thing was there wasn’t any crack near me, and due to me working as a guard all that time, I had accumulated enough exp to reach level 4 in my class. There was just one level left, and I could evolve once again..."

"...After the blinding golden pillar subsided, just after five minutes, the alarm throughout the city went off and began to spread a warning that monsters would appear, so not to leave the house until further notice.

"As you know, we had a one-hour time period before the real deal would begin, and that one hour was enough to send the masses into panic mode. Some of them began to think that this is it, the end is near, and began to go to the shops in hopes of hoarding tons of food, thinking that in one hour they would be able to amass a few days’ worth of food."

As the old man said this, Dhruv could sense that there was a felling of pity he had for the ones who had come to this conclusion.

"Due to my exclusive ability, I knew that this was a bad idea and didn’t go anywhere and remain hidden in our house. But that couldn’t last very long, as when the one-hour time period ended, numerous monsters began to attack from all sides of the city. T-those who had gone to the mall became the first ones to... perish."

Looking at the sadness on his face, Dhruv faced the old man and said, "I’m sorry, old man. Due to me, you are remembering the whole thing once again." He didn’t hesitate to apologize for his inconveniences.

Listening to Dhruv apologizing, the old man hurriedly stood up from his seat and said with a hurried tone, "You don’t have to feel sorry, my lord. It is because of you that we are able to live this calmly in this accursed world."

Dhruv nodded and signaled him to continue once again...

"They became the first prey. But the killing didn’t stop there. After a while, even the houses weren’t safe. I mean, how would you expect to be safe from monsters who could break your wall in one punch?

Seeing this scene, I took the matter into my own hands. There was a gun in the house, and being a guard, I had some practice as well. With the help of that, I managed to kill some monsters which looked like chickens. As I earned the coins, I invested them in my magic power. The thought of investing my coins in magic power also came from having the ability."

"With the help from, my son, and my daughter-in-law, we managed to kill some monsters, and I eventually reached Level 5. Due to having the necklace, I luckily got a magician class as my next evolution. Having wood as my affinity, I could use my magic both as offense and defense so our survival increased some more..."

While the old man was explaining, Dhruv interrupted and asked,

"Had no one appeared to teach you about status, maybe like a dwarf-sized weird creature..." Listing that the old man hadn’t mentioned something like this Dhruv asked on his own.

He was talking about Coby, as most of his knowledge of the status mostly comes from Coby’s explanations.

Hearing this, the old man began to think, trying to remember if there was anyone like this during the quest. After one minute of thinking, he looked toward Dhruv and said,

"No, I don’t think there has been anyone like this, my lord. I learned about the status partially from my exclusive ability and partially because of my grand-daughter Lily who often mentioned that this whole thing looks like a game world," the old man explained.

"Ohhh! Okay, continue!" Dhruv said.

While the old man was continuing, Dhruv’s mind had wandered in a totally different direction...

’So, Coby hadn’t appeared in the outside world. Or, he had appeared but in a different place from the old man. After all, even in prison, not everyone had a chance to meet with him. Man, when is he going to appear next time? I have so many questions to ask.’ He didn’t think about this matter any longer and focused on the old man’s words once again.

"...By 5 pm, the matter had already gone out of hand. Everywhere one could see there were monsters surging. The city was filled with corpses, be it of monsters or humans. When everything had gone out of hand and everyone had lost hope, a sound was transmitted throughout the city through a helicopter..

..The announcement was to gather around any big building and be safe until a ’rest time’ appeared, and when that appeared, we would come to rescue you." The old man paused once again...

"The announcement sounded shady to me so we didn’t follow it, but most of the citizens didn’t have the rational thinking ability and they began to get together in an area. And you could already imagine what had happened with them..."

"They got blasted by nukes..." Dhruv added.

The old man nodded.
