Chapter 128: Two reasons
Sigh!
A man who was wearing a white shirt, with a formal black touser was talking with someone on the walkie-talkie. After talking for a while he put down his walkie-talkie and began to move toward the door of his room.
Opening the door he left the room and began to walk with a destination in his mind.
Remembering the recent conversation he had had a thought appeared in his head,
"So, the one from the island had come this far and even killed some of our goons. But I still don’t understand why the higher-ups had stopped everyone from going on that island without a team with more than ten members. Shouldn’t we kill him as well"
The man in white was still confused over this order and his purpose of reaching the room was to know the answer today at all cost.
The hall was well-lit, and there were multiple guards patrolling the building. The man simply walked in between them and reached a room.
He pulled the room handle and entered it without anyone’s permission.
After entering the room, the man looked at the old man who was sitting on the chair. The old man was wearing a full black suit, only if there was still hair left on the head then he would be in complete black.
"The one from the Ajkans has been killed by someone, and the main suspect is the one who had come from the same island." the man in the white informed the old man.
He pulled a chair that was in front of the table and sat on it.
The moment the old man heard this news, his face quickly turned serious as he looked at the man and asked,
"Are you really serious, Nathon?"
"Yes, Kamal. I’m totally serious." Nathen called him by his name indicating that he was at the same level as the man. After taking a pause he continued,
"Emma was the one who had confirmed the location, so we can say there is no mistake there. But the weird part is we had contacted Danny in the afternoon, and when our team got there in the morning, there was no one there, So that means ’he’ had killed everyone in that little time frame and escaped as well. How can this be the work of one man" Nathon explained while also asking a question.
"What did you order the team to do?" Kamal skipped Nathen’s question and asked one of his own.
"I want them to continue but had to tell them to retreat as per the order," Nathon said.
Kamal heaved a sigh of relief when he heard that Nathen had given an order for retreat. He controlled himself and said, "Well, that was the obvious choice."
After thinking for a whole Kamal thought aloud, "So he really is a chosen one and probably got lucky with the high-end class,"
Listening to his words, Nathon couldn’t stop himself and asked, "Isn’t he the same one who had killed the warden Jacob?" this question of his was filled with a hint of curiosity in his eyes.
"Probably," Kamal didn’t directly answer as well.
"Kamal, I don’t understand one thing," Nathon asked.
"What?"
"When Jacob knew that this man had become a ’chosen one’ after all he isn’t that stupid and would have probably connected the dots that only chosen ones had the strength to kill that many men at the start of the evolution, then why didn’t he ask for our help?" Nathan asked.
Nathan is talking about how the Warden should have connected the dots and understood that Dhruv possesses the strength of a chosen one when he noticed that he was going on a killing spree of the prisoners.
"...If he had asked for our help, he would have been alive today," Nathon said with a hint of regret.
"First of all nobody had the idea about Chosen Ones at that time," Kamal stated the obvious fact.
After pausing for a bit he continued, "I can’t guarantee the authenticity, but there is a rumor going around," Kamal said.
"What rumor?" Nathon asked, showing the fact that he didn’t know about any rumor of this at all.
"According to the rumor, Jacob himself was a chosen one, and after getting another massive bounty from Triss, he had decided to kill the man with his own hand, and that decision led to his doom," Kamal explained.
"Isn’t Triss the one who had made the arrangement to put that ’innocent man’ in prison in the first place?" Nathon asked.
"Yes, he was the one."
"So, he even wanted to bury that man’s story on that same island as well. Well, I don’t say I’m surprised at all." Nathon said as he was familiar with Triss’ personality.
"Yeah, he is quite ruthless to ones he considers an enemy," Kamal said with a neutral tone.
Seeing the conversation diverting in another direction, and he didn’t even ask the question he had come here to ask, Nathon quickly changed the topic and asked Kamal,
"So, Kamal, why did the higher-ups issue a warning not to let anyone wander around that island?"
Kamal wasn’t surprised by his question at all, and he had planned to share this information with him relatively soon. Now that Nathon had asked the question on his own, there was no reason for him to decline either.
"There are two main reasons."
"What are those?"
"The first reason is that if the rumor about Jacob being a chosen one is correct, then that island would be filled with monsters from two cracks—the first being from the cracks from which Dhruv would have absorbed mana. If the monsters were to be different species, they would be fighting among themselves, and the winner would be at least at tier 4. There would be quite a few of them as well.
And if the monsters were of the same species and not cannibals, then if we were to go to the island, we would have to face hundreds, if not thousands, of monsters, and that isn’t possible with a team of five men at all." Kamal explained.
"Well, if that is even true, then how come he is still alive on that island while surrounded by monsters from two cracks?" Nathan asked.
"Well, you are right, and that brings us to our second reason. This should also be close to the truth as we finally found that he is alive after all. The second reason is why we are hesitant toward him because if he is really alive, which he is, then he has to kill all those monsters with his own hand. And you can imagine how strong he should have to be to achieve this feat. AND after doing this, how strong is he at the moment..."
Hearing the last sentence, Nathan shuddered a bit but ultimately he controlled himself.
"So, does that mean we’re going to just let him run rampant like this?" Nathan asked.
"No, we aren’t going to let him do as he pleases, but we have to be a bit patient. When we finally complete the plan which the higher-ups are so focused on at this moment..."
Kamal pauses for a bit so he won’t let the extra information slip, controlling himself he continued "When that is successful, we will extend a hand in friendship. If he accepts, then good, if not, then time will tell..." He ended the conversation with a chuckle escaping his lips.
"What exactly is the plan?" Nathan asked with a curious gaze.
"You don’t have enough clearance to know about that," Kamal said with a serious expression.
"Ohhh!"
When his purpose for the visit had been fulfilled, Nathan got up from his seat and looked at Kamal. Without saying any goodbye, he began to walk toward the door.
The last part of the conversation clearly shows that even though they talk to each other like equals, they are far from equal.
Looking at Nathan’s back, Kamal sighed.
When Nathan finally left the room, and there was no sound coming from the door for another half a minute, Kamal picked up his phone and dialed a number...
This phone of his wasn’t a normal smartphone. No, it was a satellite phone which, even in this apocalyptic world, had its service on...
Finally, Kamal found the number and clicked on it.
Ring! Ring! Ring!
The number connected, and the sound of it ringing began to echo in the room. Kamal patiently waited for the other party to pick up the phone.
After another ten rings, the other person finally picked up the phone and said,
"Hello..."
Even through the phone, one could feel that the other person’s voice was very sweet, without any malice in his tone, exactly like a businessman who had a great talent in the field of negotiation.
"Hello, Triss, how are you?" Kamal asked with a smiley face.
"Oh, Kamal, what do I owe for the great Kamal to call me himself?" Triss’s voice was filled with a hint of melody.
Without beating around the bush, Kamal directly got to the point and said, "I have a piece of information for you."
"What is it?" Triss finally changed his tone and asked with seriousness.
"I have got some information about that boy..."
