Chapter 51: Extreme Desperation

Aside from summoning Mire Spawns and the annoying Corruption Tendrils, the Mireborn Broodmass was pretty much useless.

Max’s party members only had to be wary against the Corruption Tendrils, leaving the Mire Spawns for Max.

They were now able to attack the Mireborn Broodmass coordinatingly, allowing its health bar to constantly decreased instead of instantly returning to normal.

Max’s eyes widened, he was thrilled. Ethan’s fire arrow, paired with his skill Power Shot, dealt more damage.

However, Power Shot consumed too much stamina.

His effort wasn’t wasted. Eva’s skill, Double Cut, allow the continuous depletion of the Mireborn Broodmass’ health.

Jasper also didn’t allow himself to be left behind, constantly attacking with his dagger. He used his skill, Mark Target, to the Mireborn Broodmass, increasing the damage taken for every second.

Every half a minute, Clara would use her skill, Purify, each to Ethan, Eva, and Jasper, instantly exhausting her mana reserves. However, with the mana potion given by Max, her mana quickly recovered.

She could also last for two minutes straight without being corrupted, so there was still more than a minute for her to endure the corrupted mana.

The battle went well to Max and his party’s advantage. There were times they made blunder, but they coordinated with each other, leaving mistakes to be instantly corrected by others.

Max was the leader—he was mainly the reason why his party members were coordinating exceptionally.

He quickly managed to look after their mistake. When Eva’s movement was restricted because of the Corrupted tendrils, he’d immediately obliterate it with his Arcane Bolt.

What was even more astonishing was Max’s ability to anticipate the Corrupted Tendrils’ movement. Before it was able to fully bind Eva’s leg, an Arcane Bolt already annihilated its very existence.

Eva’s ability to quickly regain her balance and kept her composure despite the startling attack also showed. Max never regretted bringing her into his party members now.

Teaming up with NPCs are not really bad.

Rhayne’s image popped up in his mind and he was immediately displeased.

He quickly distracted himself by continuing to attack the Mireborn Broodmass.

Fighting against a boss with outstanding recovery ability was quite difficult, only if the party members didn’t know how to coordinate their attacks.

If they wouldn’t allow the Mireborn Broodmass to recover after attacking, it would only be a matter of time before it was killed.

After a minute, the health bar of the Mireborn Broodmass was halved. Despite the exhaustion they felt, they continued moving their body, desperate to kill the demon in front of them.

It was their first time fighting against an actual demon. Eva, Ethan, Jasper, and Clara became frantic.

Killing the demon would lessen considerably the threat to the village. When the village could withstand further assault from the demons, then their hometown would be saved.

Because of them.

Just the thought of becoming a hero drove them to go all out in their assault.

Clara consumed another mana potion again, leaving no choice but to Purify everyone including herself.

But Max wasn’t included. She was surprised that Max wasn’t affected by the corrupted demonic mana yet, causing her admiration towards him to increase multifold.

She already consumed two mana potions, there were four more.

She swept her gaze at Eva and others and realized they already exhausted their stamina. They barely execute their skills, relying on their physical normal attack.

Hence, the depletion of the health bar of the Mireborn Broodmass reduced considerably.

They could still keep up with the recovery rate of the Mireborn Broodmass. To continue depleting its health greatly only required time to recover their stamina.

Clara believed the four mana potions were enough.

They had to last longer than the Mireborn Broodmass.

When Clara consumed two more mana potions, they finally regained their stamina. They went all out again.

Unlike them, Max wasn’t conserving his mana potions. He kept firing Arcane Bolt repeatedly, consuming two mana potions the entire time.

Now that they could finally execute their skills, Max slowed down the rhythm of his Arcane Bolt, allowing his mana circulation and mana core to rest. Anymore might cause him to fall into mana deviation.

He continued killing the Mire Spawns though, while staring at the health bar of the Mireborn Broodmass, depleting at a rapid speed.

His party members’ assault was intense and better than before. They were really determined to kill the demon.

He beamed a smile at them. He couldn’t be prouder than seeing them performing better than he expected.

Eva is really born to be a swordswoman. Ethan shows why Sylwen chose him. Jasper’s Mark Target skill is so effective.

It will only be a matter of time before the boss is defeated.

When there was less than a quarter left for the Mireborn Broodmass’ health bar, as Eva and others didn’t slow down, endangering their body throughout the process, the Mireborn Broodmass suddenly released a corrupted mist.

Max’s eyes widened. The corrupted mist had three times denser demonic mana than what the chamber had.

He shouted. "Retreat!"

Eva and others were startled. The corrupted mist closed in on them, causing their hair to stand on ends.

Eva was frozen. She dazedly stared at the corrupted mist that was about to swallow her.

Suddenly, a fire arrow broke through the corrupted mist and landed at the body of the Mireborn Broodmass.

She was startled awake. She didn’t need to turn around to determine who it was.

More fire arrows continued to be shot at the Mireborn Broodmass, creating numerous holes in the corrupted mist.

"Retreat!" Max shouted again. The corrupted mist was dangerous.

It would be difficult to defeat the Mireborn Broodmass henceforth.

I should have expected this to happen! He thought. He clucked his tongue in annoyance.

He might have to delay another attempt to defeat the boss again. He was also confident that Jaden would be unable to defeat it for two weeks, at least.

Now, he didn’t hesitate to order for a retreat.

To his surprise, as Ethan continued, Evan dove through the corrupted mist. Jasper followed, continuing slash through the body of the Mireborn Broodmass.

Even when they couldn’t see the health bar like Max, they perceived they were almost there.

It would be a complete waste to retreat now and not take a risk...
