Chapter 2034: By the Undead Wall (Part 2)

The ’leak’ came from part of the wall that had begun crumbling from the side. From Garan’s video, there were some undead that had been piling up. In time, they created some sort of flesh ramp, so several undead could go over the wall every day.

Since they were already there, Althea’s group took down the leaks.

The Undead were not weak. They were as fast as a normal human at their level, or maybe even faster. Worse, they didn’t feel pain. They also had better regeneration than humans.

Even if their bones get broken, they would recover soon. It usually took less than an hour, depending on the damage.

Interestingly, it was precisely because the Undead fell down from a height and broke a few bones that Althea’s group could take advantage.

After they ’escaped’ from the walls, the Undead would take several minutes to stand up again to continue on their way in random directions.

Althea and the others took this point of weakness to hack down the Undead before they could even stand up from the fall.

It was quite fun.

They would then take the monsters’ cores while wearing specially designed safety gloves.

After fighting, Althea looked at Medusa, who didn’t need her prompt. The woman had already brought out a specialized radiation sensor that they adapted to this place.

It was a bit larger than the ones they used in Terran, but the accuracy was decent.

"Confirmed: Radiation emitted when Undead is injured. There is remnant energy in the carcasses of Undead with cores taken out, but the energy quickly dispersed before damage is done to the killer."

For the most part, people would get affected when bitten or if their bloodstream was directly contaminated. However, constant exposure to ’bleeding’ Undead was also not very good. It was akin to second-hand poisoning.

One of the ways to prevent getting even a bit of damage was to remove the core within a few attacks, so there would be less radiation emitted.

However, the location of the core was not entirely fixed—it could be found anywhere in the body, as long as the bloodstream passed through—so this wasn’t a very practical suggestion for most.

As such, they developed proper protective equipment for this. It was a bit like modern space suits, but much thinner and had a more compact design.

It was developed in a rush after the Research Center found out they’d be venturing to the desert, so it still had a lot of limitations.

For example, its durability was limited. It could protect from radiation well, was flexible, and had excellent insulation, but it couldn’t be used in long-term battles, at least against monsters above level 15.

It was why they hadn’t taken it out until now despite its ’cooling’ effect.

KKRRRRKKKHH!

While they were talking, the next batch of Undead fell down from the wall, crawling forward and slowly sitting up.

Althea appeared next to them, raised her katana, and slashed down once more.

Through this continuous harvest session, Althea gained a bit more understanding of how to handle them in the long-term.

Other than the previous advantages, the Undead could also weaken a person at every point of injury. There was also psychological warfare involved, which was ironic because the Undead had soup for brains.

This happened because a person who knew the long-term effects might also become afraid, affecting their attacks and force. They were likely to miss opportunities to make killing blows. This was why battling with the Undead was so troublesome.

And now they were about to head in and be surrounded by them.

That said, once the problems were sold, she found the place to be quite a good grinding spot.

If all goes well...maybe they could really turn this place into a grinding spot.

The system did not acknowledge the Undead as monsters. If they were killed, the killer would receive experience points, but not the corresponding copper.

However, the Undead’s level had a wide range, though so far no more than level 24 or something. Every kill gave Althea experience points, which was surprisingly satisfying.

They would still be very careful not to be touched, of course, especially since the protective suit was still being perfected. It was also a bit expensive because the materials were rare; it was impossible to give one to everyone.

Fortunately, even if people get sick, it wasn’t like it was hopeless.

The radiation was contained within the Undead Cores, but could pass over when in contact. If there was fluid, like blood and saliva, entering a person’s bloodstream, then it was pretty much guaranteed death.

The death was known to be long and painful, and for the longest time, there had been no cure.

Until Alterra and Medusa came along.

They naturally had their way of dealing with it now, with Sinnan being the primary success case.

Medusa pretty much dedicated her entire stay in this continent to studying that race. It was also why, despite her weakness, Althea never had any objections in bringing her here. The three of them were enough to protect her.

Speaking of this, Althea had the vague idea of setting up a treatment center for this in an allied territory, likely Dune Town. Not many people knew they had a treatment for this outside of Dune Town, but it should be able to spread out quickly with a bit of marketing.

With it, Dune Town’s prestige should spike and could upgrade to level 2 within a few years. In that case, there would be no need to handle Metteo.

The Mercenary Hall they needed in the area could just be in Dune Town, albeit the travel time to the Wall would take an additional one-and-a-half days.

Even if they did partner up with Metteo, Alterra would at least have more leverage.

Anyway, Althea—staring at the wall and yet another batch of undead falling down—she seriously pondered whether to fix the breach. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

After all, killing the Undead that went through this way was too convenient.

She really didn’t repair the wall in the end, even if she and her husband were perfectly capable of doing so.

It was a bit selfish, but if she publicized the fact that people could hunt down monsters and gain EXP easily by standing there, wouldn’t people rush over and clean up the leaks before they could go far and cause chaos elsewhere?

It so happened that a lot of people in their early level 20s had been looking for good training grounds lately...
