Chapter 987: Chapter 987: Your Wife
Why did David say she’s "soft"?
How does he know she’s soft without having held her?
Ryker has held her before, and indeed she is soft. Over the years, she’s the only girl he’s held, and he selfishly doesn’t want anyone else to hold her, not even David.
David praised her to the skies today, openly stating he wants to marry her, which made Ryker feel uncomfortable.
If he weren’t physically weaker than David, he might have fought him.
"When are you going to take me to your house?"
"Why would I take you to my house?"
Zoe felt Ryker was acting very strange today, jumping from topic to topic without any connection, which made it hard for her to keep up.
"To repay you. You pretended to be my girlfriend at my house, I should pretend to be your boyfriend at yours too."
"Repay? I think you’re trying to get even, right?"
Zoe was very wary: "Did you investigate me?" Otherwise, how would he know her original name was Mia Lewis?
Ryker nodded: "I did."
Zoe was stunned at how easily he admitted it, and for a moment couldn’t find the words to respond.
How could he be so honest!
She had been vehemently denying having ever investigated him.
No one likes being investigated; who doesn’t have a few little secrets or privacy?
Zoe carefully asked, "So what did you find out?"
"I found out you’re simple yet complex."
"Are you saying tongue twisters now?"
Ryker glanced at her and didn’t continue.
That glance made Zoe feel uneasy, convinced that Ryker had discovered something.
She was really unlucky, spending every day investigating others, controlling countless information and rumors, never expecting to be investigated herself one day.
Luckily, Ryker’s with Harry Hunter; even if he found something, she wouldn’t be in any danger.
Thinking of this, Zoe breathed a sigh of relief. Seeing the road getting closer to the Hunter family’s villa, she suddenly exclaimed, "Oh no, I didn’t buy any gifts! Find a mall quickly, I need to buy something!"
"No need to buy anything."
"No way, visiting empty-handed is impolite."
"You don’t need to buy anything to come to my house, it’s just a meal."
Ryker was worried she’d buy some flashy but impractical goldfish again, unable to throw it away or taking up space in a cabinet.
The Hunter family villa was already in sight, so Zoe couldn’t buy anything even if she wanted to.
She had no choice but to enter the villa with Ryker, putting on a brave face.
But Mrs. Hunter didn’t seem to care about gifts at all, welcoming her enthusiastically and sending Ryker on errands.
"Ryker, quickly pour water for your wife, she should be thirsty after coming all this way."
"The cherry tomatoes I planted are ripe, go pick a few for your wife to taste!"
"Where’s the bird’s nest your aunt sent last time? Get it out, take it to the kitchen and have them stew it, to nourish your wife."
She kept calling Zoe "your wife," which made Zoe a bit embarrassed, but Ryker seemed used to it, not only not refuting but actually serving Zoe by pouring tea and fetching water.
Zoe was flattered. Didn’t Ryker dislike her coming to their house before? Why was he so unusual today?
Mrs. Hunter held her hand, speaking sincerely: "I invited you to our home today to calm your nerves. You stayed with Ryker in the coal mine for so long because of him, I feel grateful for your company but also guilty for your undeserved troubles. Ryker doesn’t know how to comfort people or talk well, so I, his mother, have to thank and apologize to you personally."
