Chapter 255: Chapter 1168: Long-toothed Burrow
At some point, two illusory figures appeared behind him.
They were now extending their hands, reaching for his neck.
If they connected, death would be certain!
’What are these things?’
Lü Zhong thought he had been cautious enough, but he had still fallen into their trap. Though shocked and furious, his feet didn’t slow in the slightest. After a few uses of the Star Shifting Step, he reappeared in the distance.
"Damn it, he’s discovered the Kui Summoning!" the cold and beautiful Daoist Nun cried out in alarm.
The white-haired old Daoist glared at the thin Daoist. If the latter hadn’t revealed a flaw at the last moment, he could have used those two Kui Summoning to kill the hidden intruder in a single blow.
In truth, the trio had discovered Lü Zhong the moment he entered.
Huayi Temple had developed this area into a source for raw materials, so they naturally had defenses in place. They had specifically set up a hidden Array at the entrance that could detect and record any cultivator entering the Long-toothed Burrow, and immediately send out an alert.
To eliminate the intruder, the old Daoist hadn’t hesitated to use two Kui Summoning Talismans.
The Kui Summoning Talisman was one of Huayi Temple’s secret Spirit Talismans. It could transform into a Kui Summoning with a nearly undetectable aura. Its strength was equivalent to an Early-stage Foundation Establishment Cultivator, and its illusory form was impervious to blades and difficult to harm with Magic Techniques.
The goal was to achieve a one-hit kill and prevent the secrets of the Long-toothed Burrow from being exposed.
After all, if this person escaped, Huayi Temple’s important source of Spiritual Objects would be exposed. It would inevitably attract droves of cultivators, including those from the Lingyue Sect. All their hard work building this place up might end up benefiting their enemies.
But in the end, they had failed at the final hurdle.
"Lian Dong, Lian Yin, with me! The secrets of the Long-toothed Burrow must not get out!" Just then, a drop of Profound Spiritual Milk fell into the Cyan Jade Bottle. The old Daoist, Lian Zhen, snatched the jade bottle from the stone platform and tucked it away. He then summoned a Seven-Star Treasure Sword and charged forward with ritualistic steps, dodging a volley of incoming Fireball Bullets.
The thin Daoist, his face filled with shame, flicked his wrist to produce a Jade Duster. Spiritual Light flared around him as he gritted his teeth and charged out, ready to atone for his earlier mistake.
The Daoist Nun followed close behind but stopped over a thousand feet from where the old Daoist Lian Zhen and Lü Zhong were clashing.
She set up a Magic Altar and began to perform a ritual.
Huayi Temple possessed Daoist Skills, which were similar to Magic Skills but far more powerful. However, before one mastered them, they required the use of a Magic Altar.
Lü Zhong was currently locked in combat with the old Daoist.
Seeing the thin Daoist charging toward them, he raised a hand and released his Spirit Puppet, ordering it to keep the man occupied.
CLANG!
The Jade Nether Fire Fork and the Seven-Star Treasure Sword collided, sending sparks of green flame flying.
When the green flames landed on the sandy ground, they instantly burned, sending up plumes of black smoke.
A moment later, they had corroded the ground into small pools of acid.
"Demon Cultivator, die!" The old Daoist Lian Zhen was quite knowledgeable and immediately recognized the Jade Nether Fire Fork’s origin as a Demon Artifact. He now treated Lü Zhong as a Demon Cultivator. Ignoring the green flames corroding his Seven-Star Treasure Sword, he formed a hand seal and sent his sword flying at Lü Zhong once more.
Lü Zhong couldn’t be bothered to explain. ’It’s better this way,’ he thought.
Then he saw the Daoist Nun in the distance, chanting an incantation, and a bad premonition surfaced in his heart.
He jerked his head up and saw dark clouds gathering overhead, with lightning brewing within them.
’That was close! I almost got struck by lightning!’
He quickly made a downward Sword Gesture. In the air, the Jade Nether Fire Fork spun and stabbed downward, aimed directly at the attacking old Daoist. The old man clearly didn’t dare to take the hit head-on, lest he be engulfed in green flame, so he was forced to shift his body and dodge.
THUD! THUD! THUD!
A dozen or so coffins landed on the ground.
Black shadows immediately rushed out. They were all the Refining Corpses Lü Zhong had previously acquired. He paid no mind to their individual strength and simply ordered them to keep the Daoist Nun busy.
First a Demon Artifact, now Refining Corpses.
In the old Daoist’s eyes, this firmly cemented Lü Zhong’s identity as a Demon Cultivator.
But he wasn’t finished yet.
Lü Zhong slapped the Insect Bag at his waist, and the air instantly filled with the buzzing of wings.
At the sound of an Insect Flute, the motley Insect Swarm quickly split into two equal waves, each charging toward one of the two Kui Summoning. He didn’t expect them to do much, but any interference was better than none.
Then, an Eight Trigrams Mirror appeared in Lü Zhong’s hand as he stared at the old Daoist across from him.
Killing intent blazed in his eyes!
