Chapter 2218.2: The Profound Bell

The four encountered a fair number of fortuitous opportunities after entering the place of burial and broke through to combination stage. Previously the weakest, Ling Ling was now the strongest at mid combination.

Through the Eye of Nullification, Lu Yun could see a faint purple haze inside each of their bodies. They’d plainly each refined a paramount pill, but its effects were so strong that they needed more time to fully digest it.

“It’s the Purple Magnificence Assimilation Pill—an immortal pill that can change a cultivator’s foundations!” Lu Yun sighed with appreciation at their luck.

The Purple Magnificence Assimilation Pill was a king rank immortal pill that could only be taken by cultivators. Once swallowed, the cultivator’s potential underwent a complete change and they had the potential to become a dao immortal.

One had to know that even in the world of immortals, only one or two out of ten million immortals had a chance of comprehending that stage and breaking through. It was thus easy to imagine how valuable such a pill was.

Not only had each of them taken a Purple Magnificence Assimilation Pill, but they’d utilized the tremendous effects within to break straight through to combination stage. In contrast to the gentle effects of the Unselfish Hateless Pill, the Purple Magnificence Assimilation Pill was a domineering and savage pill. More than ninety-nine percent of those who took it exploded instead of finding any benefit. When cultivators took it in the world of immortals, they needed to be watched over by a dao immortal. Otherwise, their death was a foregone conclusion.

Hence, Lu Yun found the four very lucky indeed.

……

“Brother, are we going to die here?” Although Ling Ling held the highest cultivation, she was the weakest out of the four. She was the first to falter when facing their seven enemies.

Despair flashed through Song Yi’s eyes. He’d thought that he would be able to revitalize the family after encountering good fortune in Immortal Burial Valley and raising his potential. No, he would die here instead.

The seven’s attacks were vicious and merciless. If it wasn’t for the fact that the quartet had taken the immortal pill earlier, all four would be dead long ago.

“We are descendants of Great Xia nobility! Many saw you chase after us. Are you not afraid of creating trouble for yourself?!” Being a straightforward man, Shi Jian yelled at them as he beat back an attack with his broadsword.

“Descendants of Great Xia nobility?” sneered the leader of the seven. “We wouldn’t dare kill you if you’re that Human Emperor’s descendent, but other than that, we’ll kill you even if you’re the son of the Fengxian King!”

“Shi Jian, Song Yi!” Doggedly defending the quartet, the mute Ling Chu suddenly broke his silence. “Take care of my sister in the future and don’t take revenge!”

His aura blasted in all directions as he hauled out a ghastly white flag with several strange and twisting patterns on it. Rays of ghastly radiance erupted when he unfurled it. The seven’s eyes widened and they dropped the offensive, raising the defensive treasure to defend themselves instead.

Ling Chu put away the flag when a gleaming white jade lion formed over his head. He pushed Ling Ling toward Song Yi. “Take her out of here!”

With a lion roar that shook the heavens, he flung himself at the seven.

“NO!!” Ling Ling keened to see her brother thus and struggled to get back to him.

“Big brother Ling!” Song Yi’s eyes reddened; he maintained a firm clamp on Ling Ling’s arm and doggedly reminded himself that he could not do the same as her.

“I’m going to kill you!!” Shi Jian went berserk as bloody tears flowed out of his eyes. His personal image appeared over his head as well—one of a blade with the hilt of a ghostly face. He threw himself at the seven without any hesitation.

“You guys want to detonate your images?” the group’s leader snorted. He blurred into two afterimages and flashed to the two young men.

Bam bam!

Ling Chu and Shi Jian bounced back at almost the same time. They vomited blood as their images faded away.

“Idiots, we brothers would have to expend some effort taking care of you if the four of you acted together. But rushing forward like this? You just want to die!” cackled the leader as he stepped on Ling Chu. “Hand over the jade slip you just got and I’ll consider letting you die faster.” Though he smiled, the look in his eyes was inordinately cold.

“Let them go, I’ll give you everything I have!” A palm-sized jade slip appeared in Ling Chu’s hand.

The man toyed with it. “You guys still have to die.”

“But I don’t want them to,” came another voice. A young man in white robes walked through the air, approaching the two parties.

“Yo, another fat cat to be skinned eh?” The leader smiled at Lu Yun’s arrival.

“Lu Yun!” A strange look flashed through Ling Chu’s eyes when he saw the young man. “Go away, these people are too strong, you’re no match for them!”

“Get out of here, ole brother Lu!” Song Yi and the others yelled as well.

Lu Yun smiled without a word. He’d seen everything through the Eye of Nullification and revised his assessment of the four. He also truly wanted to befriend them now. Their first thought upon seeing Lu Yun was not for themselves, but for his safety.

He couldn’t help but smile.

“Friend…”

Bam!

An enormous surge of strength struck the man in the chest just as he was about to speak and sent him flying.

“Are you alright?” Lu Yun helped up Ling Chu and took out four healing pills from his storage ring. “I think you took a jade slip from my friend just now, didn’t you? Hand it over.” He turned to the seven.

Their leader had flown several hundred meters out from Lu Yun’s kick and took a while to recollect his thoughts.

“Who… who are you?” He looked askance at Lu Yun. He hadn’t even seen where that kick came from! If it’d been a treasure, he’d already been dead.

“Didn’t you hear Brother Ling? I’m Lu Yun, the grandson of Lu Tianling—the strongest in the realm.” Lu Yun lifted his head with an arrogant prodigal expression.

“Um…” The seven looked at each other. Lu Tianling? While the man was just awakened stage, he could kill even august immortals! They were nothing but ants to him.

……

Lu Tianling was the current head honcho of the realm. Lower level immortals were no match for him and higher level ones didn’t wish to run afoul of him. The Origin King of Great Xia had come himself at one point, but also ran off with his tail between his legs.

The name of Lu Tianling was known throughout the worlds. Who would be his match once he became an immortal?

Everyone who entered Jade Ruins Realm was highly wary of the Lu patriarch. Some immortals had already gathered at Immortal Burial Valley, ready to block him from entering if he appeared.

“Form up!” roared the leader in black just when everyone thought the seven would give up the fight.

Well practiced in acting together, the seven melted into the void as soon as their leader gave the word. A cloud of black fog wafted over Lu Yun. Strange cries echoed through it; all the young man knew was that an eerie killing intent lingered nearby.

“The Southern Dipper, Ox, Girl, Emptiness, Rooftop, Encampment, and Wall… It’s the Seven Mansions of the Northern Sky! Are these seven their reincarnations or heirs?” Lu Yun frowned slightly, having recognized their method. It was the Seven Mansions of the Northern Sky from the world of immortals that was part of the Twenty-Eight Mansions of the constellation system!

The twenty-eight generals were the true overseers of the world of immortals. Answering to the banners of the four divine beasts, each of them was a chaos immortal. While they weren’t as strong as the five immortal emperors, they were the cream of the crop.

But since the twenty-eight stars safeguarded the four cardinal directions, ordinary immortals were unaware of their existence. Only the five immortal emperors could communicate with them.

Back in those days of the world of immortals, talent abounded. There were more than the five immortal emperors when it came to chaos immortals, but only those five could become emperors of the world because they were the only ones with the cardinal directions’ approval.

During that time, the Black Tortoise of the Northern Sky had bestowed a law of water upon Lu Yun, giving him the strength by which he ruled.
