“It’s early. We can leave after breakfast.” Huo Mian thought Huo Siqian was paranoid.
“We must go now. I have a bad feeling in my gut and my instincts never fails me... It’s a sense of danger. I think Leila’s people will catch up with us soon. I don’t know what method she is using, but she can locate you guys. We must get to a town with communication or the army. With Su Yu’s background, we’ll be safe if we can get the army’s protection.”
“Is it so bad?”
“It’s worse than we can imagine. Let’s skip breakfast and go now.”
“Okay.”
Huo Mian nodded. If their enemies came, they might kill the girl and her grandma. After all, the psycho Leila was capable of anything. At this thought, she realized Huo Siqian was right.
Gathering her things, she went to say goodbye to the girl and her grandma.
Although she spoke little with the grandma, she knew they were good people.
Su Yu was still groggy with sleep. Huo Mian explained the situation to him briefly and they hit the road again.
Before she left, Huo Mian asked again the village’s location and name, intending to send people for Ling later.
Sensing danger getting closer, Huo Siqian got behind the steering wheel and let Su Yu take the passenger seat.
He raced on the road over speed limits.
They didn’t speak in the car, knowing their escape journey was full of dangers.
About one hour later, Su Yu said, “It seems we need to get fuel soon. We can’t go far with the remaining gas.”
“It’s difficult to find a gas station around here.” Huo Mian glanced around and saw nothing but mountains.
“According to the map, we’ll reach a small service station in 40 minutes. We can get gas and food there before we continue,” Huo Siqian said.
“But we don’t have money.” Su Yu was embarrassed. He had thought he’d never be troubled by the problem of money, but now he was penniless and couldn’t even buy food.
“It doesn’t matter. You still have your watch.” Huo Siqian’s lips curved up.
“Fuck. You’re bringing it up again?” Su Yu glared at him.
They seemed to be born enemies and couldn’t talk without bickering. Eventually, Huo Mian just decided to let them be.
Fatigued with the ups and downs in the last couple of days, Huo Mian fell asleep again on the backseat.
She dreamed a horribly bloody scene in which Lu Yan lay dying on the ground in the jungle and her black windbreaker was soaked in blood. With her eyes closed, her face was pale while blood oozed from her forehead.
“Sis... Help me...” she said weakly.
“Yan... Yan! Are you okay?”
Huo Mian ran to help Lu Yan, but before she could reach her, the scene changed.
She saw a woman resembling her hugging Qin Chu.
Qin Chu looked wooden and let the woman hug him.
“Honey...”
She even called Qin Chu “Honey”.
“Qin Chu, she’s not me. She’s not me! Don’t believe her.” Huo Mian woke up from the nightmare with a scream.
She touched her face and found she was drenched in sweat.
“Mian, what’s wrong?”
Worried, Su Yu and Huo Siqian looked back at the same time.
