Chapter 4068: Big Trap (8)

“Little girl, we’re not bad people. You can sell the watch in the city and live a better life.”

Huo Mian thought that a teenager could understand.

“No, my grandma said that we can’t take stuff from other people.”

“It’s for you cooking corn paste for us, is that okay?” Huo Mian softly said to the girl.

“The corn paste isn’t worth much. We have a lot of corn. Grandma and I grinded a lot of corn flour, it’s enough to last us through the winter.”

The girl pointed to a dark corner in the kitchen where a few bags of corn flour were.

Huo Mian’s heart ached...

“You’re still growing, you can’t just eat this.”

“It’s fine, I’m used to it.”

Huo Siqian and Su Yu both felt pity when they heard that, as they remained silent.

“Okay, we know you mean well. We won’t force you to take it.”

Huo Mian shot Su Yu a look and made him take it back.

“Why don’t you eat with us?” Huo Mian invited her.

The girl shook her head, pointed at the other shed and said, “You guys eat, I’m going to accompany my grandma.”

Then, she went to her grandma’s shed.

Huo Mian looked at Su Yu and said, “When we go back, I’ll send someone to take them away to somewhere better. The girl can start going to school. It’s just too sad that they have nobody to rely on.”

“Mhm, I agree. Even I felt heartache for them.”

Su Yu put away his watch and agreed with Huo Mian.

The three began drinking the shabby looking corn paste.

The three were starving and ate like wolves.

Huo Siqian and Su Yu both ate a little and pushed their bowls to Huo Mian.

“You guys eat, I don’t have much of an appetite. I wouldn’t eat if it wasn’t for the baby.”

Huo Mian really didn’t feel like it, as she didn’t know what was happening with Lu Yan and Qin Chu.

After dinner, when it was time for rest, the little girl brought them two old blankets. That seemed to be all she had.

“Su Yu, go to sleep in the car and guard us.”

“What about you?”

“I’m obviously going to accompany Mian in here.”

“In your dreams... I’ll never give you a chance to hurt Mian. You go in the car.” Su Yu and Huo Siqian began arguing again.

“Stop fighting, both of you go out.”

Huo Mian’s words calmed the building tension.

“Okay, I agree,” hearing Huo Mian say that made Su Yu agree, as he was scared of Huo Siqian trying something with Huo Mian.

“Pff... You’re still so cruel. I haven’t seen you in so long, can’t we at least talk about the old times?”

Huo Siqian looked at Huo Mian gently with his eyes curved up like he was smiling.

“I’m not in the mood to do that, but I am willing to hear more about Leila.”

“Nevermind.”

Hearing Huo Mian bring up Leila made Huo Siqian frown.

It wasn’t that he didn’t want to reveal information about Leila.

Huo Siqian’s memories of her were all bad, and he was afraid that Jack would come out at an emotional moment. That’d be counterproductive.

So, Huo Siqian didn’t say anything and followed Su Yu out into the car.

“Can we escape? Why do I feel like this is too easy... Is this a trap you and that psycho girl set for us?”

Su Yu sat in the passenger seat and asked Huo Siqian with a glare.

“You have such an imagination. You’d be better suited as an author, not as an entertainment company CEO.” Huo Siqian smiled.

“Don’t you feel like our escape has been too easy?” Su Yu still felt that something was off.
