The wolf inside the barrier collided with several other wolves, sending their bodies flying into the air

In the meantime, the Junior Rank wolf wouldn't be able to harm the tribesmen but the damage has already been done

A person that was still perfectly alive just moments ago has died. No matter how frequent deaths are, it would still cause grief to the people left behind

'My decision was correct. Only by showing worth would a person be safer' Rezen thought grimly while glancing at the tribesman's corpse

The one that just died is one of the older members of the tribe. Because of his age, he was not given priority for safety

These old and disabled people are at the front of the frontlines and they are the ones that would most likely die first

This measure was taken place to make sure that the younger generation that still has hope of reaching the Junior Rank would be able to survive, thus keeping the tribe alive

Rezen is an outsider and if he didn't provide any value, he might be the first one to die out of all the people here. This matter causes his nerves to be tensed as he tightened his grip on his pouch, ready to use it at the first sign of danger to his life

The battle goes on despite a person dying and this time, the Chief fought the Junior Rank wolf by herself while letting the other mages deal with the weaker wolves

"Awooo!!"

The Junior Rank wolf was still perfectly alive and kicking. Its two heads stared at the Chief menacingly but it also became more cautious than before

Clearly, the wolf recognizes that the Chief could threaten its life and amidst the chaotic flow of the battle between the humans and magic beasts, the two strongest fighters of the bunch clashed with each other

The wolf nimbly moved its legs and it pounced at the chief that held her wand in front of her

Bang!!

The wolf's claw heavily landed on the Chief's barrier causing it to tremble. Fortunately, Chief was able to fortify her defense in time and it was not breached

With its attack unable to breach the defense of its opponent, the wolf moved back and circled around Chief

In return, Chief gathered her mana at the tip of her wand and she sent a streak of water that the wolf dodged

The Chief continue to send more jets of water from the tip of her wand but Junior Rank wolf was quite fast and it was able to dodge all of her attacks, forcing the two parties into a deadlock

The Chief is stronger than the wolf but the difference in power was not overwhelmingly high to the point that she can easily disregard the wolf's presence and kill it effortlessly

She needed more time and effort. Not to mention, she was also raising her guard in case more Junior Rank wolves appear and attack the people of her tribe

Seeing that her attacks were useless, the Chief aggressively waved her hand and sent three barrier orbs to her opponent

As a result, the wolf brandished its claw which is now covered with mana that made them more lethal than before

In the end, the wolf effortlessly cuts through the barriers by using its claw

"Tsk" the Chief clicked her tongue in annoyance. It was hard to fight a Junior Rank magic beast while also splitting part of her attention to the people of her tribe

While logically speaking it was better to focus on the battle so that she would win faster, she cannot do that

A single Junior Rank wolf could kill the majority of the tribesmen in a short period of time. If the tribesmen died especially the younger generation, the tribe would cease to exist and that is not something that the Chief wish to happen

After taking care of the barrier orbs, the wolf decided to counterattack. It was as if the ground swallowed the wolf again as if it was a ghost

Because of that, the Chief's eye that still works focused on her surroundings, waiting for the wolf to appear again and it didn't take that long

The wolf appeared behind the Chief but as soon as she saw the wolf sinking into the ground, she already controlled her mana

A bluish glow could be seen on her magic wand and the moment she sensed the wolf reappearing, she turned her body back while waving her magic wand

Yet another jet of water was released by the Chief's wand that pierced through one of the wolf's head

However, instead of witnessing the usual bloody scene, the wolf's body actually turned into loose soil that fell down the ground

'I was tricked' she thought in her mind as she tried to turn her body again where the real wolf appeared

The earlier wolf was not the real wolf and was just a diversion. Many beasts might have low intelligence including the Junior Rank ones but they still could use their innate abilities and magic in battles

The fake wolf from earlier is definitely an innate ability of the wolf and despite not having intelligence that matches that of a human, it still knows how to use its ability

Despite the Chief trying to move in time, she was still late

With a flash of blue, her protective barrier was ripped apart by the wolf that uses its mana-coated claw

With her defense broken through, the wolf continued its assault

In the end, the Chief was able to move away from the wolf but not without paying a price

A wound was left on her left shoulder and from it, blood drips down

Fortunately, just like most tribal people, she was also someone that has long been used to pain considering that receiving injuries or even dying at the hands of magic beasts in this realm is very common

The Chief gritted her teeth and forced herself to use magic once more. She raised her right hand that was holding her magic wand to conjure four barrier orbs

Since the wolf was close to her, the barrier orbs managed to hit the intended target

"Kuu!!!"

The wolf felt like it was hit by heavy rocks as its flesh bursts from the impact. The chances of killing the wolf in a single shot are low as such, the Chief didn't go for the kill immediately

The part of the wolf that she targeted was its limbs, breaking off its mobility

With the four limbs of the wolf broken, it was unable to move properly and it turned into an easy target

Mana gathered at the tip of Chief's wand and another jet of water flew out. The small water jet penetrated one of the wolf's foreheads, killing it once as a result

However, before it could recover and attack again, the Chief already sent another small water jet that penetrated the remaining forehead of the wolf

The wolf died for the second time and now, it was really dead for good

Without the presence of a Junior Rank magic beast, it has become easier to kill the beastlings

The wolves were numerous but their number was not high enough to exhaust three Junior Rank mages and kill them afterward

As such, after a cruel fight with the magic beasts in which both sides suffered casualties, the battle ended with the tribe's victory

However, no one has the desire to celebrate. Their lives are always like this

They would be constantly attacked by magic beasts and every time that happens, some of them are most likely to die

Who would celebrate when their families died?

The tribesmen were just about to heave a sigh of relief when yet another unexpected thing happened

Big Nose lowered his guard after seeing that there were no more Double-headed Black Wolves coming and that causes him to pay a heavy price

Puchi!!

The only thing on Big Nose's mind right now was to have a good rest but he didn't expect to be granted an eternal rest as a hand suddenly pierced his heart from behind

This person's hand went from Big Nose's back to the outside of his chest

The hand held a still beating heart to it before the heart was crushed in the next second

"What are you doing!" The Chief's voice rang like thunder and Stone Head sensed his body moving against his will as he was sent flying away from Big Nose

Unfortunately, the Chief's intervention was already too late. Big Nose's heart was already crushed by Stone Head and there is no one in the tribe that could possibly heal him

Even Rezen could only watch helplessly as one of the tribe's top fighters died. With his current means, abilities, and available material, keeping a person that has lost his heart alive is an impossibility

After all, just how hard is it to perform such a miracle?
