Chapter 139 139. Fulfilling A Promise.
Wolfgang drove Kevin to where the rest of the gang members were waiting for them.
Upon their arrival, Wolfgang dragged Brian Stark's limp body to the center of the gathering where hundreds of people, together with Kevin's gang members, stood in wait.
Aside from Kevin's men, there were also people from the underground world here, people who had lost a friend, lover or family member due to the drug Brian Stark introduced underground.
Now, each and every one of them was here to confirm where exactly their family, friend or lover was kept after they were suddenly taken away from them.
Standing in front of Brian Stark was Wolfgang who asked the question on everyone's mind.
"What happened to all of our friends and family that were suddenly taken away from us?"
Brian Stark was mummified, with huge ropes tied around his body to completely restrict his movement.
The only organ he could move freely was his head. He glanced towards Wolfgang and the people around him.
He recalled Wolfgang's face and a few others glaring at him with murderous intent.
He chuckled at how desperate they were to hear the answer to the question even though they already knew the answer. They were simply hoping within themselves that he would say something entirely different since he was currently at their mercy.
He could fool them into believing that there was still hope for their missing loved ones but he was not going to do that.
He was done.
He saw no point in living anymore.
Brian Stark knew that even if these people standing before him didn't k.i.l.l him, then he would die on his own within the next three days or so because he was currently suffering a lot of pain from his crushed bones and some severe internal bleeding.
Right after he finished laughing to his own satisfaction, much to the disdain of the people standing before him, he finally answered their question.
"If you can't find them anymore, it means they've become a Cannibal, In other words, they're dead and not worth looking for."
"If you really want to meet them so badly, why don't you overdose on a drug so that before you all know it, you too will become a cannibal just like the ones you miss dearly."
He chuckled once again after seeing the rage and hatred every one of them had towards him.
Brian Stark knew of the cruel things he had done in the past and he always knew that one way or another, karma would come knocking on his door.
But even though he knew that many of the people inhaling Mistletoe were turning into cannibals, he also knew that a lot more people were evolving into an Awakened.
So, he simply concluded that those who were unable to evolve into an Awakened were those who were simply too weak to live in a world that would soon be ruled by the Awakened.
The existence of the species called 'humans' will become nothing but a memory, and the weak (Cannibals) are the ones who will end up serving the strong (The Awakened).
This was a dream Christopher Mormon shared with him. A dream where humans would no longer have to be afraid of dying before reaching a hundred years of age, but instead, they'll maintain their youth and live for hundreds, if not thousands of years.
In short, they will obtain the gift called IMMORTALITY
That is the true goal of the company called 'PEAK.'
At the time, Brian Stark never really bothered about this because all he'd wanted was for Amy to be by his side.
He never really bothered about those who were dying or becoming cannibals because of the drugs.
He knew within him that they were dying for a greater cause.
For the greater good of society, to be exact.
And as long as he continued to obtain wealth, he never really bothered himself with the little things that were of little consequence to him.
He had played his own part in a future no one would have ever seen coming.
He had fulfilled the promise he made when he agreed to share the same dream Christopher Mormon had.
His only regret was that he wouldn't be able to see how the future would be when PEAK's plan for the world began to take effect.
Maybe things were better the way it was now, he thought.
Maybe this was just the universe's twisted way of punishing him for the cruel thing he did to both his brother and the love of his life.
Thinking back now, he regretted not confronting his brother and confessing to him how he truly felt about Amy's mother.
Who knew, maybe they could have figured something out and found a way to both make each other happy.
After all, they were brothers, weren't they?
A bead of tears formed in his eyes as the throng of people standing before him lashed out their anger and directed their fury towards him.
About half an hour later, Wolfgang returned to Kevin with the severed head of Brian Stark in his hand.
"It is done boss," He informed Kevin.
Kevin was seated on his car bonnet and staring at the large moon in the sky. He didn't join the rest of the people and he didn't stay behind to watch how they killed Brian Stark.
Instead, he was here trying to understand why Christopher Mormon would play a part in trying to ruin his family.
Drifting back to reality, Kevin noticed that they had a few hours left before daybreak and after replaying what Wolfgang said to him, Kevin nodded his head and asked.
"Have you arranged the meeting I asked you to set up with the bosses who were watching my fight with the NILs at the arena?"
"Yes, boss, each of the gang bosses know how important this meeting is and they will probably be at the rendezvous point right about now."
Kevin nodded. "Very well, gather your men together. We'll be heading straight to the meeting."
