Brian Stark understood what they were saying. It meant that they were the ones who were gossiping in the mansion without knowing that Amy had been listening to them.

He turned towards them in a rage, ready to end every last one of them, but Amy fell to her knees, begging him not to kill them, as they were the closest things to a friend that she had.

Amy implored him to let them live, and in return, she would not hurt herself or try to run away, and she would be with him but he had to give her some time first.

The sudden realization of her parents' death was still a shock to her and so she told him that she needed a bit of time to sort out her emotions and if Brian Stark could grant her this wish, she wouldn't stand in his way.

At least, that was her plan until she could find a way to escape from the mansion on her own.

As Brian watched the tears stream down her cheeks, he couldn't bear to see her in such a way.

He agreed to her demands, but in turn, she had to agree to his.

And his demands were that;

Every single one of the maids would be sacked immediately and replaced with new ones who knew nothing of his past.

He would give her twelve months to prepare herself for him.

The new maids and guards would be stationed around the mansion to ensure that she didn't think of doing something stupid if he was not around.

Brian knew that if he were to carry on with his plan, Amy would remember this day as her worst birthday ever because she would not only witness the death of those she considered her friends and family, but she would also see his fearsome side, and this was an image of him he didn't want Amy to see.

But Amy had no intention of doing anything stupid if she was to be surrounded by guards and maids she didn't trust, instead, she decided to wait for the right moment to leave the mansion and exact her revenge on him.

Part of her reason for this was because of the death of her parents, and the other half was because she knew Brian Stark ordered his men to end every one of those maids right after he fired them all.

Although Brian Stark didn't say anything about this to her, Amy was certain that he killed them.

Amy exchanged phone numbers with three different maids so they could be in touch.

Of course, it wasn't done in Brian Stark's presence but rather, behind his back.

But due to the silence from all the maids she called, Amy knew that every single one of the maids were no longer alive.

She made a promise to herself that she would do everything she could to leave the mansion.

This was the main reason why she usually asked some of her previous tutors to persuade Brian Stark into allowing her to have a bit of freedom and to see the outside world.

But Brian Stark knew that she was still trying to escape from him and he didn't want that to happen. So he gave her the excuse that he was protecting her from his enemies, as well as the cannibals and Awakened roaming the street at night.

Due to the incident that happened on her eighteenth birthday and the fact that Amy saw a side of him that he didn't want her to see, Brian thought it would be wise to create a little distance between them. He wanted to give her time to forget about what she saw so she could come to terms with the fact that they would end up together.

In his own twisted way, he wanted his future partner to be the perfect bride for him.

He wanted Amy to be as good as her mother in terms of academics and other things Amy's mom excelled in.

But Amy knew that he was just trying to recreate her mother by molding her into her image, and this only fueled her hatred towards him more.

This was also why she never let her hair flow down her back like her mother had allowed hers.

She also opted to be bad at math as a way of protesting to him.

It was her own little way of sending a message to Brian Stark that she would never become the woman he wanted her to be.

Although Brian Stark never returned to the mansion after that day, he still messaged Amy whenever he could, to know how she was doing and if she needed anything.

If he called, Amy would never pick up, she was too angry to listen to his voice.

So, Brian Stark was limited to sending messages, and their conversation never exceeded a two-minute chat and it was mostly twice or thrice a month.

But on a few occasions when he needed to say something important to her, he would inform Amy through Mary, the new head maid that he hired to be in charge of the mansion.

In other words, Mary served as his informant on matters relating to Amy.

"So, what do you think, huh? My uncle is a twisted motherf**ker, isn't he?" Amy said lightly, trying to temporarily erase the bad memories of her uncle away from her mind.

But Kevin didn't reply and instead stared at the ceiling, thinking of what his next course of action should be.

His gaze lowered a bit and clashed with Amy's, then he suggested.

"What do you feel about me helping you to get revenge on your uncle?"

"What? Do you mean it?" she asked to make sure that she heard him right.

Kevin nodded in response.

"But why?"

"Because you're my woman and I want you to be happy. Although, if you're not interested in exacting revenge against him, you can just say so and I'll abandon the idea as well."

Even though Kevin said this, he had no intention of letting Brian Stark go scot-free.

He would simply find other means of handling Brian Stark without leaving any traces that would point out that he had a hand in his demise.
