Chapter 809 Four Pillars: The Hope
With how much questions Valyr had piled up ever since he entered the Four Pillars' Inheritance, it went without saying that the man still had a lot to ask Vaughn.
With the mystery of why Veldanyr's technology was still stuck at the Early Middle Ages now out of the way, the young man asked the man why the Four Pillars' Inheritance was made in the first place.
In response, Vaughn explained to him that the inheritance was made as a way to control the number of people that had access to what could only be described as otherworldly knowledge and power in the context of the current Veldanyr.
He then talked about how such power and knowledge was widespread in the past, being used by people for their own benefit, to which Valyr responded that something like that should be normal.
With that, Vaughn clarified that they had made use of it to harm other people, using it as a way to instill terror into the hearts of many so they could make use of them, creating settlements and small civilizations where their strength ruled everything.
Because of it, the man was left with no choice but to seal all of it into an inheritance, talking about how it was his duty as the last leader of humanity from before the Great Cataclysm.
Thinking about the man's explanation, Valyr felt that it made sense. After all, if one were to be given great power all of a sudden, then there was a considerably high chance for one to abuse it, making use of it for their own deplorable benefits.
However, Valyr also thought that it depended on the person that had access to the power in the first place, whether they were selfless in making use of power or if they were selfish.
In the end, the young man decided not to think about the matter any further, understanding that Vaughn had his reasons for creating the inheritance in the first place.
With that, the young man then moved onto talking about the Triad Gates, specifically asking why the Triad Gates were found inside the Four Pillars' Inheritance.
Unsurprisingly, Vaughn responded that the Triad Gates contained the otherworldly knowledge and power that he was speaking of earlier, hence finding the need to restrict it as well.
Of course, with that kind of explanation, Valyr felt that such a conclusion made sense.
Yet, for some apparent reason, he felt like something was off.
'If I remember correctly, from the memories I've seen through the Chambers of Enlightenment, the Triad Gates were possibly made around the golden period in the Age of Uprising,' thought Valyr to himself.
'However, Vaughn came from a time far before the Age of Uprising.'
Scratching the back of his head as the gears in his mind worked on overdrive, he then murmured to himself, "Aside from that, the highest level one could reach on a starter planet like this is the peak of Rank 7."
"I don't know how long someone at the peak of Rank 7 could live for, but it's definitely a far cry from the amount of time Vaughn has lived so far."
And so, Valyr decided to ask Vaughn about it, only to be shut down before he could even beginning to talk about it.
"I'm afraid that there's not much time left before our conversation ends," said Vaughn with a shake of his head, his expression that of slight pity. Though, while looking at the man closely, Valyr noticed that there were also a hint of panic to his expression.
"However, once you enter the Gates of Transcendence, I assure you that we'll have all the time in the world to speak."
"Speaking of the Gates of Transcendence…" At those words, Vaughn did a few gestures with his hands that caused the statue beside them to start glowing.
Though, rather than coalesce once more into another figure, the light surrounding the statue caused the statue itself to shrink in size.
Swoosh!
Hovering in midair thanks to Vaughn's actions, Valyr was able to see that the statue had turned into something that he could hold in hand.
Nevertheless, the level of detail and craftsmanship in the statue was still all there, prompting the young man to focus on it once it landed in his hands.
"This statue of mine will act as one of the two keys that will allow you to enter the Gates of Transcendence," said the man, nodding after seeing Valyr stare at it.
"As for the other key…"
Whoosh!
Raising both hands into the air, Vaughn did a few more gestures with his hands as he caused the barrier surrounding the barren spot to release a few wisps of energy.
Beckoning for all the wisps to gather near him, the man then coalesced the wisps into an orb of solidified energy, its appearance similar to that of a hazy ball of smoke.
"This ball of energy serves as the second key needed to enter the Gates of Transcendence." With a look of slight exhaustion on his face, Vaughn gave the ball of smoke to Valyr. "Both of them could be stored in your spatial bracelet for the meantime, but you must retrieve them out of the spatial bracelet for you to actually enter the Gates of Transcendence."
"Do the others need to obtain these items as well to enter the Gates of Transcendence?" asked Valyr, thinking about Hal and Vera.
Seeing Vaughn shake his head in response, a hint of excitement appeared on his face as he understood that they could all enter it as long as he had the items.
Unfortunately, it seemed that he was mistaken.
"They cannot enter the Gates of Transcendence," Vaughn told him. "As I've said at the beginning of our conversation, entering this barrier is one of the requirements to enter the Gates of Transcendence."
"But what if I were to…"
"They still can't enter." The man shook his head. "You've already taken the only existing opportunity in this place to enter the Gates of Transcendence."
Seeing the young man's face go through multiple expressions in a second, Vaughn let out a low sigh, understanding what the man was feeling.
"Though they can't enter the Gates of Transcendence, there's still a lot of opportunities waiting for them to obtain within the Gates of Awakening," said the man, hoping that his words were enough to console Valyr.
However, the young man only gave him a perfunctory nod in response, prompting Vaughn to scratch the back of his head.
Letting out a sigh once more, Vaughn thought that there was nothing else he could say to the young man that would improve his mood.
With that, the man decided that now was the right time to end the conversation, dissipating into thin air as he left Valyr with a few more statements.
"I hope you mull over your thoughts for a long time, Valyr."
"I'm not stopping you from giving the items to them, but they would still be rendered useless since only you have the main element necessary to enter the Gates of Transcendence."
"…"
"…Haah."
"In any case, remember to think things through and not make rash decisions."
"Especially since you're the hope that I've chosen to leave behind for Veldanyr."
