Chapter 1304: Easy to Defend, Hard to Attack

There was always a reason behind the names of the cities in <<REBIRTH>>. Twilight City was named as such because it was always experiencing the twilight of the sun. Sky Dragon City was named as such because it was situated near Dragon Island. Whereas Harbor City, as its name suggests, was literally a city located in a harbor. To be exact, it was an island in the ocean.

Harbor City wasn’t a small island and neither was it a big island. It was situated by the side of the continent and had great scenery.

Even though Harbor City was merely an island, in the background story of <Rebirth>, this island possessed an extremely crucial importance. That was because this island was located along a very important shipping route within the Brave Continent.

Sea transport, regardless of whichever era it was in, had always been an extremely crucial existence. This was not the exception for the case of this sword and magic era. Thus, the shipping route passing through Harbor City was an extremely important shipping route connecting the Brave Continent to other continents in <<REBIRTH>>, and Harbor City became the largest pit stop for these ships.

Due to such a strategic location, the prosperity of Harbor City was many times that of Saint City, all year round.

However, many years ago, a group of hateful Pirates roamed their way onto this land and murdered the City Lord of Harbor City, taking over Harbor City and ultimately leading to its demise as a once flourishing city.

In fact, even if it were the pirates or someone else that had taken over Harbor City, as long as they acted in moderation, the original residents in the world of <<REBIRTH>> would not have any qualms about it. However, these pirates were extremely brutal in nature and were extremely greedy. The amount of money that these ships earned wasn’t enough to satisfy the greed of these pirates, and their lives would be placed at risk too. Thus, after the pirates took over the city, no one chose to take this shipping route ever since.

Because of these actions by the pirates, they had slain the geese before it could lay any eggs, and thus had lost their source of income. In light of this, they began to harass the nearby city and had made their way to Twilight City in the past. Unfortunately for them, they were stopped by the previous City Lord of Twilight City and had thus restrained themselves from then on.

In fact, the City Lords of the surrounding cities had once sent troops over to surround this group of pirates, but all of them were unfamiliar with sea battle. Furthermore, Harbor City was easy to defend and hard to attack. With such a natural advantage, it was an extremely disadvantageous battle.

Additionally, all of the City Lords were all eyeing each other’s pies and naturally wouldn’t be willing to send in all of their military strength to deal with these pirates, weakening their own city’s defences at the same time.

Now that the pirates had developed to such an extent, having 50000 members amongst their ranks, even if the nearby City Lords wanted to eradicate them, they had already lost the qualifications to do so.

After rising into the air, the entire view of Harbor City was reflected in the eyes of Wang Yu and Fearless. Upon seeing the layout of the entire city, Fearless couldn’t help but exclaim in surprise.

The entire island was a circular island, but the terrain was rather suspicious.

Normal islands had a mountain as its centre, and the lands surrounding the mountain would be of a lower altitude... Harbor City, however, was the opposite. The entire city was surrounded by mountains and there was only a small narrow path within a valley amongst the mountains leading into the city.

The surrounding mountains were the perfect walls of nature. After so many years of occupancy by these pirates, they had built defensive structures along this unique terrain, such as arrow towers, making it impossible to breach the city from the sides.

As for the narrow valley, it was the perfect funnel into the city. Once the gates were closed, it was capable of keeping enemies at bay and provide the perfect geographical advantage for the owners of the city to deal with them.

It was no wonder that this broken city was able to allow these pirates to safely develop. With such a terrain, even if the residents were a group of fishermen, they would be able to rely on it to defend against an army that was hundreds of folds greater than them.

Thankfully, Wang Yu and Fearless had decided to head over and investigate the area beforehand. Otherwise, they would have suffered a miserable defeat without knowing the cause of it. Seems like this quest was truly worthy of its “A” difficulty level.

Just when Fearless was pondering over how they should breach the defense, Wang Yu suddenly pointed to an object below them and asked, “What’s that thing over there?”

Upon hearing this, Fearless followed the direction of Wang Yu’s finger and glanced in that direction. What greeted him was a strange-looking cylindrical bucket-like structure, situated right in the middle of Harbor City. Looking at it from the sky, it seemed as if this “bucket” was filled with pitch-black sand, and on top of the sand was a layer of water.

Building a fountain in the centre of the city wasn’t an unusual thing. However, building such a weird-looking structure there was too suspicious. It was no wonder that Wang Yu would notice it.

Fearless had a wealth of knowledge and thus naturally knew what that strange-looking structure was. Upon seeing it, he adjusted the glasses resting on his nose bridge and coolly said, “It is a water filter machine! Pirates have to drink water in order to survive as well.”

“Ohh...”

Wang Yu nodded his head in acknowledgement. Shortly after, he revealed a confused expression once more and asked, “Yi? I thought that there were 50000 pirates here? Why am I unable to see any of them?”

“This...”

Fearless fondled his chin and said, “I have no idea. Why don’t we try bombarding this place to test it out?”

As he was speaking, Fearless took out a firecracker from his inventory and tossed it down.

This toy was looted during the Spring Festival event. Even though it did not have any effect against monsters, it was able to produce an extremely loud noise and was used to attract monsters.

“Boom!”

The moment the firecracker landed on the ground, an ear-piercing explosion rang throughout the city.

“Dang, dang, dang!”

At that moment, an alarm bell was sounded from an observatory tower situated at the front of Harbor City.

Upon hearing this alarm, a sea of black pirates emerged from all directions, charging towards the entrance of Harbor City at an extremely fast speed.

As expected, this group of pirates were orderly. One look and anyone could tell that they were a professionally trained group of army. Dealing with such an opponent was an entire class above dealing with some random, scattered pirates.

With a wave of his hand, Fearless cast a Probing Skill, and shortly after, the details of the pirates appeared in front of the duo’s eyes.

Pirate Commando (LV 50) (Elite)

HP: 100000

MP:5000

Skills: [Charge], [Splitting Chop]

Talent: Savage

Pirate Scout (LV 50) (Elite)

HP:50000

MP: 10000

Skills: [Stealth], [Assassinate]

Talent: Hemophile

Background description: Pirate scouts of Harbor City, extremely slippery and hard to deal with.

Even though the background description of these monsters was rather exaggerated, their attributes were only average. Even though they were “Elite” monsters, they weren’t any much stronger than ordinary LV 50 monsters.

However, with such a large quantity, the sight of this sea of troops appearing the instant the alarm bell rang caused a chill to run down one’s spine.

Thankfully, there weren’t any ranged classes. Otherwise, with so many pirates guarding the entrance of Harbor City, after a few exchanges, all 1000 players would long be eliminated.

“Boom!”

Just when the duo was sighing at the sight of the pirates below them, the sound of a gunshot rang out nearby.

Fortunately, Wang Yu’s reactions were quick. The moment he heard the gunshot, his head tilted to the side and pulled onto Fearless.

“Swoosh!!”

A bullet flew by the bodies of both of them. Wang Yu and Fearless hurriedly looked towards the direction of the gunshot, only to discover that a group of pirates holding onto guns had appeared on the summit of the two parallel mountains that formed the ravine.

The numbers of these pirates weren’t as exaggerated as the scouts or commandos. However, they were equally trained and prepared. In groups of twos and threes, they stood on the mountain peaks on both sides and overlooked the city. freeweb novel.co m
