Chapter 35: Mr. Li and Julia... It begins
Ten cars with the symbol of the sun embedded in their hoods were blaring their sirens as they sped towards an isolated location, after ten minutes they slowed down as the silhouette of a twelve-story building appeared before them.
It was 7:30 pm and the artificial sun was scheduled to set a little earlier than the normal one, so by 6:00 the sun was already down and it was the Moon's time to shine.
The cars stopped in different zig-zagged positions as policemen lightly armed with just a pistol and a hat which had the image of the sun in the middle came down.
The door opened and a stout man in a well-fitted black suit came out, the dull light from the moon reflected on his round glasses and the cigarette placed at his lips with smoke slowly drifting off.
He rubbed his nose and looked around, the place was eerily silent, satisfied, he faced his men.
"I want this place cleaned up"
He held his cigarette and drew a line against his neck with a mad grin "finish the rest".
They nodded and entered the building, while he watched them leave, he tapped his watch and a hologram popped out, the image of Luke sitting in his study vividly appeared.
"We've arrived, sir"
The man threw his cigarette to the ground and matched it, he raised his hand and saluted.
"Let me see"
Luke's deep voice made him nod like a chicken, he hurriedly removed his watch and laid it on the hood of the car behind him, Luke stared at the destruction before him, he could see a black bus that had silhouettes of a human forcefully imprinted into it, someone must have been thrown there, but he managed to survive since there was nobody.
Luke squinted his eyes when he saw a gaping hole that went through the bus, although the hole wasn't big, just the size of a finger, the smooth edges around it clearly showed its cause to the experienced Luke.
"A bullet"
He muttered, it couldn't be an ordinary bullet, something was wrong but he had no time to ponder about it as he turned to a different direction, the glass walls of the building had many holes, whilst some had spider's web shaped cracks.
Dried blood coated the original blue glass, and some mangled bodies lay on the asphalt road, from their horrible looks they must have fallen from a higher floor.
Although Luke hadn't seen what happened inside he was sure it was much worse than the Carnage before him, his eyes contracted, 'Derek needs a mentor' he said inwardly.
Such Carnage showed the dark feelings hidden inside him, this showed Derek's hatred and anger weren't something that would just phase off, it was growing and if precautions weren't taken, a monster would be born.
He had to call Christopher, Derek's situation needs to be addressed at the earliest or he will harm both himself and others.
"No one should know of this, should a word reach the media or any other organization... The result won't be pleasant" Luke calmly spoke to Mr. Li.
Mr. Li smiled " I understand sir, no one would ever know about this".
"Good... And your men"
Li's smile almost broke ".. my men.. sir?"
"No one should know of this except you, you're still important"
Luke's emotionless voice struck deeply into his heart, he faltered and regained himself, he squeezed out a smile, though it seems like even his facial muscles were angry because they refused to smile.
"I'll do as you asked," he replied dryly.
"Good... I've sent the money"
"The money?" I was perplexed, what was the money for, Luke had already paid him.
Luke stared at Mr. Li like an idiot, what was this fool thinking about throughout their discussion?
"It's the money for your men, I just told you no one should know, give them the money and send them away from the stronghold... Did you not get my instructions Li!!"
'what!' Li screamed inwardly, he thought Luke meant he should kill his men, here he was thinking about a possible escape when it was just a misunderstanding.
"Ah... I heard you, sir, I'll give them the money, I was thinking of how to share it, yes that's what bothered me"
Luke stared at this fool who couldn't even make up a good lie, he sighed "it's enough to go around for a double payment" he immediately disconnected, why would his PA keep on sending such stupid men on essential missions, it was getting on his nerves.
He called a different line and a woman with blonde hair appeared, she was Jasmine's younger sister and also his PA.
"Julia I think you should change the type of men you go out with, Li is a fool"
Julia laughed at Luke's blunt words, she dipped her hand inside the nearby bowl and grabbed a handful of popcorn, and put one in her mouth.
Her lips curled and she chuckled "you don't see their soft lovable caring attentive and sweet side Luke, sometimes I wonder what you and my sister's marriage is like, you're always serious and she's the same... You're a strange couple"
"I don't care how sweet, he's useless so change him" Luke was about to disconnect when Julia shouted.
"Wait, wait... I've got his resume, I didn't choose him because his my boyfriend, he's really good... An ace ranked superhuman with a full page of well done and perfected job.. his brain waves have also been scanned, the full negative possibility of betrayal, he's the perfect guy" while she was talking she sent the resume to Luke, who had an amazed expression as he scanned through it.
He nodded and stared deeply at Julia, her neck shrunk and she questioned meekly "what!"
"Julia, you're already in your thirties, don't you want a guy or..." His words were halted as Julia screamed.
"I've decided to be with Li!"
Those words struck deeply into Luke's eardrums as he hollered "that dumb chicken guy!.. is your dad going to allow such a union, you either choose a Scion or you're staying single!"
"But.. I don't like any of them.. those arrogant pricks all have a huge harem with more than ten women, how am I supposed to live with such a man!!"
Julia's face was fully red as she shouted back at Luke, her eyes were puffy as she glared at Luke.
Her dad's strict control is what made her stay single all this while, she would never agree to marry those bastards.
"You have no say in this Julia, you could wake up one morning and you're on their bed, you can't disobey your father, you know how bad it will end up" Luke yelled back, he couldn't believe Julia would be so stupid to think this was a free world, her dad was a top figure, everyone wanted a connection with him and his daughters were the only way.
Jasmine was already his so only Julia remained.
His heart softened when he saw her trembling figure, he tried to negotiate "there are good ones".
"I don't want anyone, only Li!" Julia yelled hysterically.
Luke frowned "you know he will die should your father know this"
"I'll take him to court, he'll be imprisoned for his Crimes!"
Seeing Julia screaming and scattering everything around her, Luke chuckled inwardly, 'court' he scowled.
Even the chief judge would tremble before such a mighty figure, this was the dark world and power rules! the era of law and order was long gone, the disappearance of the sun made sure of that.
Suddenly Julia faced Luke "will you support me, you can make Li a high-ranked officer and dad may allow our Union... Please" she knelt on the floor and begged with her palms pressed together.
Luke frowned "I'm sorry but n...." As a mature female voice echoed behind him, he couldn't finish his words.
"We will support you... dad won't do anything"
"Thanks, big sis!" Julia hurriedly stood up and pranced about like a kid given candy.
Luke's eyes widened and he turned to Jasmine who stood behind him and hollered "what!!".
