Chapter 1287 Empathetic

"Here we are," Lao Jiangou said as he entered the south wing with Raelle and Shui Xian. "This used to be your grandfather's place when he was younger. It had been empty since Master got married and shifted to the main residence. So, when you're born, Miss Mu cleaned up this place for you."

"Thank you," said Raelle.

Lao Jiangou smiled at her, "This is my duty. Miss Mu says you don't like too many people around you, so I've asked all the house help to keep their distance from your place unless they are called. You can use the bell if you need anything, I'll take my leave now."

Raelle nodded and watched him leave. He seemed to be the same age as her grandfather and yet, he looked a lot hale and hearty than her grandfather. "Let's go inside," said Shui Xian as he opened the door and entered.

The inside of this place was decorated according to Raelle's likes and dislikes and it could be that there was a lot of thought put into it. Even if this was Raelle's first time here, it could be seen that this south wing had always been reserved for her since she was born. "Our stuff is already here. Do you wanna take a shower, should I take out your clothes?"

Raelle thought about it before agreeing.

"Then you go and take a shower. I'll help you with the clothes."

Raelle didn't say anything and entered the bathroom to take a shower. After the whole day, she really needed a shower right now. Outside, Shui Xian was about to bring her clothes to her when his phone rang and he got busy with a business call. Raelle wrapped a bathrobe and came out when she didn't see Shui Xian bringing her clothes to her. As she stepped out, something caught her eye and she was momentarily distracted. In this distraction, she didn't notice where she placed her foot and tripped.

Shui Xian was turning around when he noticed her movement and ran towards her to help her. In the end, he fell first and cushioned Raelle's fall.

"Ouch!"

Raelle placed her hand on his chest and looked at him wincing, "Are you okay?"

"I thinks so," he replied.

"Did you hurt your head?" she asked.

"Yeah. But I think I'll survive."

"Sorry!"

Shui Xian stopped his movement of rubbing the back of his head and used that hand to rub her head, "What are you sorry for? You just tripped. It can happen to anyone. What's there to apologize for? I came over to help on my own. This has nothing to do with you."

"I'm still sorry. I shouldn't have been distracted," said Raelle.

"It's rare for my wife to be distracted," said Shui Xian. "It really doesn't matter. Don't beat yourself up for it now. Instead, how about you get up first? You're very heavy. I'm about to be crushed to death."

Seeing how he was still in the mood of joking, she knew he was fine so she hit his chest, "Now, I'm heavy?"

"You are! Because now, your heart is filled with my love. And the weight of love is too heavy to bear."

Raelle was speechless for a while and Shui Xian kept staring at her with a teasing look.

"You did not just say that."

"I did though."

"That was... That was so unbelievable. Yeah. That's all I can say right now."

Shui Xian laughed at her state and patted her arm, "Sweetheart, you really need to get up. I think I pulled a muscle."

"Why didn't you say that earlier?" she hurriedly got off his body and looked at him inquisitively. Shui Xian just laid on the floor for a while before he sat up slowly and then stood up. "How is it? Where does it hurt?"

Shui Xian tried moving and then said, "Nah. It's false alarm. I'm still fine. It isn't a big deal."

"Are you sure?" asked Raelle. "Tell me honestly. Don't hide things from me. Tell me where it hurts. I'll rub some ointment for you."

"But it really seems fine for now. Let's give it some time. Even if I got hurt somewhere, eventually I'll feel the pain then I'll let you know."

Raelle wasn't completely convinced but still agreed with his words. "Why were you distracted though?" asked Shui Xian.

Raelle pulled him towards the cabinet and pointed at a small golden cage. "This got me distracted. I felt like I had an impression of it and then I wondered where I had seen it."

"So, did you remember?"

"Yeah. After falling, it just clicked where I saw it."

"Where?" he asked curiously.

"I won it in a bet when I was ten."

"Huh?"

"There were birds in it. The owner of the bird cage was a little brat who thought he was capable of anything. Seeing how he scared the birds inside, reminded me of the time when I was kept in an iron cage someone kept hitting the cage to scare the kids inside. So, in the heat of the moment, I made a bet with that little brat and after winning, I set the birds free. But why is the bird cage still here?"

Shui Xian pursed his lips and chose to ignore somethings as lightly as she spoke. And then he walked to the cage and held it up. Looking at it, he raised his brows and said, "Baby, do you know this cage is made of real gold?"

"I didn't know."

"Of course, you didn't know," he replied. "Anyway, Yanyan must have kept it as a momento. After all, in her impression, this was the first time you felt empathetic towards something."

"Hey, that sounds very reasonable."

"You can ask to confirm but in my opinion, that's why she kept this around until now." "Okay, I'll ask her then." She looked at Shui Xian's phone that he dropped in a hurry trying to save her and said, "You should check your phone, is it broken?"

Shui Xian waved off his hand offhandedly, "As long as you are fine. The rest doesn't matter."
