222 The Call

RING! RING!
Xander looked at his phone, peeling his eyes away from his friends and was shocked when he saw who the caller was.
“Sorry,” he said to his friends and answered the call. “Hello?”
“Hey.”
He was a bit shocked to have her call him but then, what could he say? He was glad still.
“Hey, what’s up?”
“Umm, I am good. You?”

“Okay. Sorry I did not call to check up on you. Hope you are alright?”
“Yeah...”
“Okay. Umm, sorry I hope I did not get you cold or something. You know, the flying and all.”
He tried his best to lower his voice at the last part to prevent his friends from butting in.
“Huh. I did not quite get that.”
“Fine. Give me a minute.” Standing up, he excused himself and went over to the balcony to speak to her. “I said, hope you are not cold because of the flying?”
“No. I am not. Quite the opposite in face.”
‘Damn it. He would know you are hot and that can only be...’ Jade mentally face palmed herself.
She was trying to have a normal conversation but it seemed as though whatever she did or said was not working.
“Umm, Jade. Are you sure you are okay?”
“Yeah.” She closed her eyes. What was she, a fool? Of course, she was not okay.
Even her breathing gave her away. Just listening to his voice, she was already imagining how his voice always sounded like when they were being intimate with each other and the thought.
She gulped hard, closing her legs even tighter. AT this stage, she most definitely would be needing a bath.
“Jade. Tell me, what is really going on?”
“I am fine.”
“No, you are not. I can tell from your voice that you are not.”
She let out a sigh. These were the problem of having him know her so much. “Fine. I am not okay.”
‘It is the mate bond, right?”
She really wanted to deny it but after careful thinking, she saw that it wasn’t a wise idea. “Yes.” She voiced out through gritted teeth. “Yes.”
“I am sorry, love. So sorry you have to go through all of these.”
“It is not fair. I am tired of it. Make it....”
“I should make it stop right? You want me to make it go away?”
“I never said so,” Jade refuted.
“You might have as well just said so,” Xander pushed.
“Did not.”
“Did too.”
“Did not. Okay, you know what, just forget it. Forget I said anything. It was nice talking to you, good...”
“Wait. Hold on, Jade. Why does it feel like you are breaking up with me or you are saying goodbye hehe?”
“Funny, Xan. I already broke up with you.”
“Did you? Did we like you know officially do that?”
“Xander! This is not a joke, you know.”
“Hhahahaa...”
‘What’s so funny!”
“I am trying to light up the mood you know, not to get you all mad at me but if you are not getting the joke, then it is obvious that your case with the mate bond, isn’t good.”
“Forget it. I am hanging up.”
“Do not or...”
“Bye Xander, I would handle my problem myself.”
His brain felt like going Kaboom. How was she just thinking she would... gosh. He stood straight, taking in a deep breath before speaking. “It is not just your problem. It is mine too.”
“Oh yeah? And how is that so?”
He smiled to himself. Although now was not the time to do so what could he do? The fact that he waited for him to speak was obvious she wanted to speak to him, wanted help but she wasn’t saying.
“Can’t you see? It is very much your problem as it is mine.”
“Really now. Yet you are not solving it.”
“I am trying.”
“How?”
“I...” he rubbed at the bridge between his eyebrows. His head was already aching him.
How was he going to make her see and understand that this was his problem?
“You cannot have a mate bond, Jade, without a mate. You are my mate as I am yours. We are bound by destiny, my love. So in as much as it is affecting you, it is very much affecting me. I have never had a mate so all of this is new to me too just that...”
“Xander, just forget about it. I am not... I’m going home.”
“Wait, where were you before?”
“Goodbye.”
This time for sure, she did make sure she ended the call and let out a very deep sigh. She did not want to end the cal. She wanted to talk to him. Macy said speaking with him would help but she just could not help it.
He was bringing up their past. Well, their past was no longer their past the moment the mate bond kicked in and they still hadn’t consummated it.
Their past was now their present and their future.
She did not know much about dragons and Vampires and the lot but from little films she had watched, when the werewolves had a mate, it wasn’t funny.
And if she was not lying to herself, then, by all means, it was not going to get pretty soon and she bloody had a war to fight to save her family or what was left of her gang.
‘Perhaps a cool bath would help me calm down. Then I can think straight.’
Trying to stand up, she ended up staggering a bit and landed on the sofa close to her before slumping back into the sofa and throwing her hands up, letting them drop in utter frustration.
“Can this be me?”
“Yes, this is you, Jade.”
Hearing Macy’s voice, Jade sat up quickly and combed through her hair with her fingers. “I thought I thought that and not said it out loud.”
“You did but what does it matter? I overheard you when you were on the phone. You did not allow him to help.”
“Well, he was making me remember us together.”
“And what is so bad in that?”
“Nothing but I am not ready to do us.”
“But you are ready to be fucked?”
“Shut it Mace. I never said that. Gosh, how did I ever get myself involved in all this in the first place?”
“You fell in love and with a mighty dragon, I must add. A mighty Dragon Lord. Destiny happened and I must say, it may be a messy point in your life but it is not the end at the very least.”
“It might as well be.”
“No.” She let out a sigh too and walked up to Jade. “Jade.”
“Yeah?”
“Come here.” Before Jade knew what was going on, Macy already had her arms wrapped around her and pulled her in for a hug.
“I love you but Xander loves you more. Yes, he made a costly mistake but he is very sorry for that. I know it is hard to forgive him and anytime you see him, it brings back the memories, the horrors but it would take time. And know that you do not have that time but trust that he loves you and is ready to make amends.”

“I do not know.”
“See, how many guys would have their woman throw herself at them to be sexed up and loved and would turn away their face? Huh?”
“There are guys.”
“I know there are guys, babe. But okay, let me rephrase the question. How many of their kind, non-humans, especially mates, would have their mate close, offering herself and have not pounced on her?”
“I do not know. I am only finding out that they are real. So fuck it, I do not know.”
“I understand you. They are few. Even those that wait, most might be they are scared for the female, like our case, mating a human, we are not as strong as they are. I know how scared Jay was but we did it soon enough and here I am. I know it was hard for him but how much more Xander.”
“He is the stubborn one, you know.”
“Yes, but he is going through all of this suffering because of you. He respects and values you.”
“I did not ask him to.”
“Now that is a lie. Every woman wants to be respected and valued by the man they love and by everyone. He is willing to put his sanity on the line, just to restitute and set things straight. He hurt you deeply and he recognizes that, Jade. Give him credit.”
“I will when the time is right but now isn’t. I just need to cool off. I still have a battle at hand and love is not what I need right now.”
“It is. You need it to heal you of your hurt. I just hope you would realize it sooner before it is too late.”
“Goodbye Mace. I need to go home now. Would call you tomorrow when I am past this stage.” Her cheeks pulled to the side a bit, giving her a side smile as lowered her gaze to her pelvic region.
“Ah, yeah you get going.”
