Chapter 35: Weighed Gains and Losses

Sheng Youting thought he would be happy once Yu Lan promised to stay, but he wasn’t. Yu Lan treasured the child she had with Meng Shaoqian and couldn’t bear to leave her but could easily let go of the child she was going to have with him. The fact disappointed him. She indeed hated him to the core.
It was at noon. Yu Lan was taking a nap. Sheng Youting took Qibao to the swimming pool for a swim. He floated in the pool and put Qibao on his chest. Qibao was so happy that she patted the water and couldn’t help smiling broadly.
Her little short arms and legs kept kicking to show her happiness. The long eyelashes and diamond-shaped mouth of Qibao reminded Sheng Youting of Yu Lan when she was young.
He did want to have a baby with Yu Lan. However, compared to Yu Lan, the kid would be less important.
“Qibao, call me daddy.”
“Daddy.” Qibao was still in a happy mood. Sheng Youting raised her up by her armpits and let her enjoy the water by half-sinking her in the water.
Sheng Youting looked into Qibao’s eyes, “How about Daddy teaching you how to dive?”
Qibao nodded her head.
“Qibao, breathe like daddy!” Upon his words, Sheng Youting dived with Qibao in the water suddenly. The act was so sudden that Qibao got scared and opened her mouth when she found herself immersing in the water. A string of bubbles arose!
Yu Lan just woke up from her nap and came to the swimming pool. The scene in front of her nearly scared her to death. She ran to the pool, dived into it without hesitation, and swam towards Sheng Youting.
When Qibao was again above the water, she was choked heavily that she cried and screamed out loud.
Yu Lan turned to Sheng Youting and scolded him angrily, “You want to kill her! Aren’t you?! She is just a kid not knowing anything!” She hugged Qibao and swam ashore. She ran outside in a rush and yelled at the same time, “Doctor! Doctor!”
It was not until now before Sheng Youting knew that he had made a huge mistake. He had ruined the trust hardly built during these days.
In the next two months, Yu Lan never spoke to him again, and she was even unwilling to sit and eat with him at the same table.
This day, Qibao wanted to draw pictures but Yu Lan couldn’t find pens and papers everywhere. She didn’t want the help from Sheng Youting’s servants. Thus she went to the study room of Sheng Youting’s and tried to find pens by herself.
However, she was more than shocked when she accidentally found Sheng Youting’s medical records which showed that he had taken a ligation surgery and couldn’t have his own babies later. Her shoulders shivered. All those emotions hidden deep in her heart were brought out suddenly by the medical records. She lay on the desk and couldn’t help bursting into tears.
Standing outside the room, Sheng Youting dared not to knock the door. He didn’t expect what he dad done would be found by her one day. He didn’t know what to do now. Yu Lan must hate him more now, for she wanted to leave him so desperately.
Sheng Youting turned around and went back to his room quietly and said to servants not to disturb him even when it was dinner.
Late at night at 11:00 p.m., Yu Lan walked into Sheng Youting’s room and asked him when she came to the foot of his bed, “Are you asleep?”
“No.” Sheng Youting sat up as he replied. He reached out his hand to turn on the berth light. Though quietly as him when he looked into Yu Lan’s eyes, millions of thoughts on possible scenes came to him in his mind. He didn’t know whether she had found today would drive her crazy or not. He was so afraid that he dared not to explain it.
“You are the heir of the Sheng family.” Yu Lan said in a cold voice.
“Yes.”
“Do you know what a ligation surgery would mean?” Yu Lan asked with fists clenched. Though she said in a composed way, her eyes were getting sore.
“I knew.”
“Why you still did it since you had known?”
“I’ve thought about the gains and losses.” He answered calmly without a slight hesitation or regret.
Yu Lan gnashed her teeth and managed a cold smile, “Gains and losses? What are the gains and losses?”
“The gains and losses you won’t want to hear or to believe even I speak them out.” Sheng Youting did want to tell Yu Lan about it. However, the reality stopped him. One was that he was not used to expressing words of love. Second was that he didn’t find a chance to do so since Yu Lan would immediately walk away when she saw him.
