Chapter 605.2: Shocking Development (2)

In the desert, Roel’s heart skipped a beat as his vigilance peaked.

.

My attack didn’t destroy it? How is that possible? I have destroyed Banjol’s Divine Domain!

Watching the Egg of the Beast God repair itself, he suddenly thought of a possibility.

Could it be that the true owner of that egg isn’t Banjol but the Savior? Roel thought with a heavy expression.

If his deduction was true, it would make sense that the combined force of him and Grandar had failed to destroy the Egg of the Beast God. The Savior’s power originated from Sia as well, and it wasn’t inferior to his in any way. It would have been hard for him to completely destroy the Egg of the Beast God, especially given the defensive and regenerative prowess of the latter.

This complicates things.

Roel gritted his teeth as he tried to figure out a countermeasure to the situation, but it was impossible for him to figure out a solution within such a short period of time.

Meanwhile, the mutated deviants slowly regained their mobility with the revival of the Egg of the Beast God. The soldiers on the battlefield also noticed the situation with the Egg of the Beast God and widened their eyes in shock. Nora, Charlotte, and the others were also startled.

“Wait. How is Roel’s condition if that thing is still there?” Nora anxiously asked.

“Darling is fine for now, but I fear that we’re in trouble,” Charlotte replied grimly.

She could sense Roel’s condition through the Arbiter, so she wasn’t too worried about him. What she was more concerned about was how the black sludge mutated deviants were slowly regaining their mobility, whereas the human soldiers were starting to show signs of exhaustion after Howl of Crimson Lightning’s effects died out.

In contrast to what they had thought, the tides of the battle hadn’t changed even though they had successfully eradicated the Deviant Sovereign.

The deviants had fallen into disarray after losing their Sovereign. Their morale was lower than ever after their army buff spell died out, forcing them to back down. Even the two-headed deviant, whom Wilhelmina was dealing with, lost its fighting will and retreated to the main force.

In the first place, the deviant army was made up of many independent tribes that had come together under the authority of the Deviant Sovereign. Now that the factor uniting them was gone, it was only a matter of time before their alliance crumbled, making them a lesser threat.

What was more worrying was the mutated deviants formed out of the Egg of the Beast God’s black sludge. Roel and the others had thought that these mutated deviants would disappear with Banjol’s death, but the current situation proved that their assumption was off.

This was a huge problem because these mutated deviants weren’t true life forms—they knew not of exhaustion, and the Egg of the Beast God could potentially spawn an unlimited number of them given sufficient time.

It was under this air of pessimism that the battle resumed.

By now, the human soldiers were in a bad condition after having fought for a long period of time, and it didn’t help that they had been battered by the shockwaves from Roel and Banjol’s clashes too. Many struggled to pull themselves out of the sand, but the mutated deviants weren’t going to give them a chance to catch their breath.

“Grar!”

Bestial roars shook the battlefield, signaling the resumption of the fight between the human soldiers and the mutated deviants. Nora and the others panicked at the sight, and they swiftly eliminated the monsters in their vicinity.

Unlike the normal deviants, the Egg of the Beast God had indiscriminately scattered the mutated deviants all over the battlefield as black sludge, so that there was no clear formation dividing the human soldiers from the mutated deviants. This made it difficult for them to cover their own soldiers for a retreat.

“We’re going to be trapped here at this rate!”

“Nora, go and fetch Darling over! Leave the commanding to me!”

“All right!”

Amidst the pandemonium, a golden-haired angel unfurled her light wings to soar into the sky, but just then, the Egg of the Beast God suddenly roared.

“Grar!”

Immense pressure crushed down on the battlefield. Moments later, the Egg of the Beast God spewed out black sludge once more, but this time around, it transformed into aerial monsters.

“Those are…!” Nora exclaimed.

Before she knew it, thousands of aerial monsters were charging in her direction. She quickly gathered her mana and emanated a brilliant light to vanquish them. At the same time, a thought surfaced in her mind: They are trying to stop me from getting to Roel?

Lilian also noticed the situation and decided to go all out.

“We have to deal with the root of the trouble!”

A tremendous light shone from Lilian, and a huge circle of ten thousand magicians appeared from her summoning. The ten thousand magicians immediately began channeling a powerful army spell.

At the same time, several knight orders from the Ancient Austine Empire charged forth to save the human soldiers from their quandary while attempting to clear the path leading to Roel.

Once again, the battlefield descended into chaos.

Roel looked at the massive black egg floating in the sky and narrowed his golden eyes, murmuring, “I see. You don’t want me to return alive.”

His killing intent simmered, and it quickly reached a boiling point. He knew that he had to destroy the Egg of the Beast God, or else the Egg of the Beast God would eventually become a greater threat than the Deviant Sovereign.

Without Banjol to keep it in check, the Egg of the Beast God would continuously absorb mana from the ground to create more and more monsters. It wouldn’t be long before it amassed a sufficiently powerful military force to take over Tark Prairie and even threaten humankind.

I have to stop the Egg of the Beast God… but my body and my soul won’t be able to take it if I continue fighting in my current state, Roel thought grimly.

As he listened to the metallic clangs and wretched cries from the battlefield, his eyes slowly hardened with determination. But before he could make a move, the clouds in the sky suddenly billowed, and a familiar phenomenon appeared before his eyes.

Within a matter of seconds, the sun abruptly descended to the western horizon, and a silver moon appeared in the sky. A white fog suddenly surged in from the eastern horizon, carrying a tremendous amount of mana with it.
