Chapter 571.2: Recovery (2)

Huge changes had occurred to Roel’s body by the time he awoke once more.

His empty mana pool had been replenished, and his body felt even lighter and more energetic. However, the warm sensation on his back had disappeared.

Has Mother left?

This thought was quickly overthrown when Roel opened his eyes, for the first thing he saw was a silver-haired woman lying on the bed, looking at him with Her arm propping up Her head.

“You’re awake? Sorry; did I disturb you?”

“…No, not at all,” Roel replied with a shake of his head.

The Mother Goddess smiled.

She might have been aware of how thin Her night gown was, as She had donned a robe over it, though Her casual lying posture still exposed much of Her skin. Still, She wasn’t too bothered by it since She was with Her child.

She first scanned Roel’s body before placing Her hand on his forehead.

“How are you feeling? Anywhere unwell?”

“I’m fine. If anything, my body feels lighter than ever.”

“Is that so? That’s good.”

The Mother Goddess looked relieved.

Roel took a look at his surroundings and saw that it was still night. The silver moon was still hanging high in the sky.

“Mother, how long have I been asleep?”

“Fifteen days have passed since that battle.”

“Fifteen days?”

Not expecting to have been asleep for this long, Roel was taken aback by the sudden time skip. The Mother Goddess caressed his forehead and nodded.

“Mmhm. It’d take at least that much time for your body to recover this well. You woke up a couple of times over the course of your treatment, but your soul was still much too weak then. You probably don’t remember much from those instances.”

“…Yeah, I can’t remember much. I only have a vague impression.”

Roel recalled the dreams he had while he was unconscious and deduced that those were probably real. However, he still reserved some doubts as to how the Mother Goddess had managed to treat him, especially since he had received quite a few System notifications.

【You have received the Mother Goddess’ Blessing.】 【Indestructible Body The Mother Goddess had expended an unimaginable amount of mana and resources to fuse the strongest artifacts in this world together to forge this blessed body. Effects: Significantly enhanced defense and recovery rate.】

What?

Roel was dumbfounded. He had wondered why his body was faring better than ever when he had only just recovered from fatal injuries, and it turned out that there was indeed a reason for it. In particular, he was startled by the description—‘unimaginable amount of mana and resources’.

The System’s description would never exaggerate. The Mother Goddess must have paid a hefty price in order to treat him.

“Mother, there’s something I’d like to ask You.”

“What is it?”

“My body… How did You treat it?”

The Mother Goddess was taken aback by Roel’s question. She told him that the race leaders had offered their greatest treasures for his treatment out of gratitude for saving their lives, and She particularly highlighted Micher in that regard.

Roel was surprised.

He didn’t expect that the chief of the High Elves, who had even confronted him in front of the Mother Goddess, would take the lead to help him by donating the Philosopher’s Stone. It was only a portion of the Philosopher’s Stone, but its value was still beyond measurement.

However, the Mother Goddess thought that this was only to be expected.

“Your intervention saved the main forces of the High Elves and the other races. It’s only right for them to do this much for you,” the Mother Goddess said with a doting smile.

She leaned in and kissed Roel’s forehead. It was only normal for Her to think that way, as She didn’t think that there was anything more valuable than Her child’s life.

Meanwhile, Roel suddenly recalled the cold and eerie sensation he had felt in one of his ‘dreams’. That prompted another question: How did the Mother Goddess mend my soul?

His body could still be reforged and enhanced using magic tools, but the same couldn’t be said about his soul. He only had less than a tenth of his soul left back then, such that Edavia, despite being the Spiriteer Sovereign, expressed that she was not confident of treating him.

The Mother Goddess would have to bring forth power far beyond anyone’s imagination to pull off such a miracle. Curious to know what She had done to save him, Roel posed the question.

"I tried gathering your soul fragments, but you expended far too much of your soul in the battle, so I wasn’t able to piece it together.”

“Mother, could that mean that…”

“Yes, your current soul is different from before. It contains a hint of My power in it.”

“A hint of Your power? What kind of power?” Roel asked.

The Mother Goddess looked at the sky before answering, “It’s a part of Me. The Black Moon.”
