249 Disgusting

‘What should I do?’

Claire chewed her fingernails as she thought.

‘Wait, are we under attack now?’

That boy worked for SMF. His being here meant that SMF knew about this place and their forces were also here... That also meant that this place would be attacked soon, or they were probably about to attack it right now.

‘Should I inform everyone here?’

If she did, they could find and capture those intruders in no time and also prevent the base from falling into SMF’s hands.

‘But what about Mr. Hey?’

Claire chewed her fingernails one by one.

‘Will he be mad at me if I do it?’

.....

She didn’t want to admit it, but her Mr. Hey cared a lot about that boy. She was scared that if she did something that would hurt him, her Mr. Hey might get mad at her. She didn’t want such a thing to happen! No! Never!

She hated that boy. Why was her Mr. Hey like that? He was so different when things were about that GPS bastard! That boy worked for their enemies! Her Mr. Hey had gone out of his way to shield that boy a lot until now! He even got hurt doing so!

That wasn’t fair! Why him but not her? She was truly envious. If she could, she would go grab that boy from his collar and beat the shit out of him until she was satisfied.

‘He will be mad at me...’

But she couldn’t. Her Mr. Hey would be sad if something happened to that GPS boy, wouldn’t he?

‘Gah! But I’ll become a traitor if I don’t report this! AAAAAHHHH!!!’

She covered her face with both hands. She had a sudden headache. She wanted to go home.

‘I’ll pretend I didn’t see anything.’

Yes. That was the best thing to do. She will act clueless and wait until her Mr. Hey came out of the room. She then would snatch him and run away! Yep! She would run away. It doesn’t matter what happens to the base or to the GPS boy. There is no way she would let her Mr. Hey meed the GPS bastard again.

Creak

The door of the room opened soon enough and a man covered by a cloak left it.

“Mr. Hey!”

She ran towards the man as soon as she saw him leaving.

“Are you done?”

Clinging to the man’s arm, she pulled him towards the stairs without even waiting for his answer.

“I still have to talk with the head of- Claire what are you doing?”

Mr. Hey stopped his sentence midway to ask the girl who was pulling him towards the stairs.

“You can talk with whoever you want later! Let’s go.”

“Huh?”

“We should go! Come on! We are leaving right now!”

“What?

Being dragged down the stairs, Mr. Hey closed his mouth to look and looked at the girl who was acting strange, from head to toe.

“Are you alright?”

He asked with a slightly worried voice after examining the teenager for a few seconds.

“Of course I am!”

“Did something happen when I was gone?”

“Nope! What should have happened anyway?! Haha! Even if something happened, I could just run away using my power-”

She stopped moving all of a sudden.

“Ah wait!”

She frowned and scoffed at herself.

“Why am I doing this when I can just create portals!”

She mumbled to herself with a blank face. She was too distracted thinking about how to avoid meeting the GPS boy that she even forgot she had a unique skill.

“Mr. Hey, we are leaving.”

She looked up at the man, smiled, and created a portal almost immediately.

“Hurry up! Go in!”

“....”

Mr. Hey looked at the portal, then at the girl.

“What’s going on?”

“Huh? Nothing! We are just leaving.”

“Did anyone say anything?”

“Nope! Hurry up and go into the portal!”

“Claire!”

Mr. Hey pulled his arm out of the girl’s grasp.

“Tell me what is going on.”

“Nothingggg!!! There is nothing! Can’t you listen to me just for once?”

It was at that moment.

Bzzz

A small purple-red electric current pupped up in the air.

“Uh?”

“Gasp!”

Both Mr. Hey and Claire flinched at the sudden unexpected light.

Bzzz

Bzzz

Bzzz

And it wasn’t only one electric current. Small red-purple electric currents started to flash in the air right before Mr. Hey’s face, around the stone on his cloak, and fade just as fast as they appeared.

“What?”

Claire, looking at the currents, took one step back out of fear.

“Ah!”

Contrary to her, Mr. Hey let out a gasp out of understanding and mumbled to himself.

“He’s here?”

There was only one reason for these cracks to appear. There was only one person who could create such an effect.

“....”

Claire flinched once again.

“...You knew?”

She turned her head in the other direction to avoid the man’s eyes.

“W-what are you-”

“Claire!”

The girl closed her mouth.

“How did you know about it?”

Claire bit her lips and clasped her hands.

“I... I saw a few people going inside the building through the window...”

Her head still lowered, she pointed at the window at the end of the hall.

.....

“And you wanted to run away!”

“....”

Under the intense gaze of the man, the teenage girl sweated and fidgeted with her fingers.

“I... Um... I...”

Claire lowered her head more and more.

“I’m sorry.”

“Sigh!”

She heard the man sigh but still didn’t raise her head.

Tap

Then, there was the sound of footsteps. Someone was walking away from her.

“Wait!”

It was only then that she raised her head again and moved towards the man.

“Don’t go!”

Grab

She grabbed the man’s cloak before taking one more step and hugging the man from the side.

“Claire?”

Mr. Hey, definitely taken aback by her sudden action, froze in his place.

“It’s dangerous! Don’t go!”

“What?”

“That boy is dangerous! Don’t go that way! We should leave!”

Claire said, eyes gradually getting filled with tears. Not waiting for Mr. Hey’s answer, she kept talking without even taking a breath.

“Don’t you remember? You were injured and sick for three weeks the last time you met with him! He is dangerous! He hurts you! Don’t go! We should run away!”

“....”

The man was struck speechless for a moment.

“Uh? What does that-”

“What will I do if something happens to Mr. Hey? They will kick me out of this place! I will have nowhere to go!”

“....”

The man shut his mouth again.

‘What? What? What?’

That was the only thought in his mind.

“Also, I can’t let such an old man get hurt again! You will die! Old people are weak, they will die soon!”

“O-old man?”

Mr. Hey stuttered.

“I’m not that old!”

“No, you are!”

Claire still didn’t let go of the man’s cloak, clinging to him like a little kid.

“You are old! You act and talk like an old man! You are even older than my f... father...”

“.....”

The man had nothing to say. And why did she even stutter that last word? What is going on?

“Why do you even care about that boy so much? He is an enemy, but I’m on your side! Look! I can even help you escape! I’m better than him in all ways! I’m even younger than him! Hah!”

“....”

The man tilted his head.

“...Why are you... comparing him and yourself all of a sudden?”

“I... I’m just stating the facts! I’m not comparing!”

“....”

She pulled the cloak down as she said that.

Blink Blink

Mr. Hey blinked as he watched the girl’s behavior. He then spat out what was in his mind.

“...Are you envious of him?”

Claire snapped her head up.

“N-No! What? Why would I b-be envious? He is a nobody when I’m your aid! He is the one who should be envious! Ahem!”

“Claire...”

The man, looking down at the girl, was starting to understand things a little bit.

‘Maybe I spent too much time with her? Ah, did I spoil her or something?’

The girl was acting like a little kid who wanted to monopolize her parent for herself and completely ignore their siblings, or maybe kick them out of the house. It’s not like he hadn’t experienced such behaviors before. He knows a little idiot who used to act like this for no particular reason at all even when there was no other sibling for him to be envious of.

Pat

Mr. Hey patted the girl’s head.

“I won’t get injured again.”

She was a kid who had been away from her family for a long time. She had lost her father at such a young age and then was sent to a foreign country to study, away from her mother as well.

Had she ever experienced someone’s consistent support before? He didn’t know for sure but he doubted that she had. Mr. Hey didn’t actually support her, but he had always kept her by his side. It was mostly because her power helped him a lot, but there was also a part of him not wanting to let a lonely girl alone in an organization full of criminals. Probably, that only thing was something significant to such a girl.

“Also, don’t hate him too much. He is a nice boy.”

He said in a soft voice.

“If you want, you can think of him as an older brother, hm?”

“What? No! What are you talking about? Disgusting!”

She said with a disgusted face, making the man chuckle.

“Also, I’m not that old... Hmm... I might be old, but not to the point of being called an old man!”

“....”

“And please let me go.”

“....”

The girl released the man with an unwilling face.

“You stay here. I’ll come back quickly.”

“No! I’m coming with you.”

“It might be dangerous.”

“I can run away whenever I want!”

“...Sigh.”

Mr. Hey sighed again and shook his head.

“Alright. Just keep quiet.”

“Okay!”

Following her Mr. Hey, the little girl walked down the stairs and headed to the back entrance.
