Chapter 130.10 - SS 14

SS 14. [Becoming A Vtuber For 0 Yen ~ SNS]

"Mai-san. Is it possible that you've debuted as a VTuber, perhaps?"

For a moment, Mai-san fell silent.

Then slowly, she opened her mouth and asked.

"Why do you think that?"

"Well, if you had just assisted your older sister with her debut, you wouldn't need knowledge about 3D models, right?"

"I see…"

Mai-san's face turned into an expression of realization.

Other discrepancies were also present, like the incomplete equipment arrangement, creating a sense of inconsistency.

"I guess that's right."

"Well, I wonder… At the very least, the current me isn't a VTuber."

"Why did you decide to stop?"

I felt she would evade the question if I didn't press further.

Mai-san sighed as if giving in.

"Well… you see, everyone has their strengths and weaknesses."

Mai-san mumbled quietly.

She shifted her gaze out the window.

The incoming evening sun was dazzling, causing me to squint.

I couldn't discern anything because her expression was concealed by the light.

"Even so, there might have been times when I wanted to become like someone I admired."

I didn't have the right words for Mai-san.

Because she and I were very alike, yet complete opposites in a way.

"Well, even if I were to become a VTuber, the main reason would probably be that it was a waste to have extra equipment. After all…"

Unexpectedly, Mai-san turned toward me.

She had a surprisingly bright expression.

"–Because trying it out was free."

Mai-san said, jokingly.

I chuckled along.

"I don't regret it. Being a VTuber allows for second chances without showing your face. Plus, we're in the era of the 100 Million Total Viewers Society, right? This experience won't be in vain."

"Even in times like now?"

"For the future."

We exchanged glances.

I felt like I understood Mai-san a bit better.

"Well then, good work today. Oh, I almost forgot."

"Why, what's up?"

"There's something I want you to do before next time."

***

And then, two weeks later.

Finally, the logo and equipment were all ready.

The logo was more affordable than the market price, with the trade-off being no retakes… but it was perfect from the start, with no complaints!

The equipment, once connected and tested, posed no problems either.

From here on, it was time to dive into the truly virtual work.

"So, can I confirm what you mentioned earlier?"

"Yes! I've created the accounts!"

"Let's see."

I showed My-san the newly established MyTube channel and Twitter account.

And the instructions I received from Mai-san the other day.

"Did you properly get your parent's permission?"

"It's all good!"

It was a solution to the issue I, being a minor, would face.

"Indeed, there's not much Mai-san can do about this."

"Alright then. Let's finish setting up the account. What we need is…"

As Mai-san spoke, she took out that worn-out notebook.

Looking back, this notebook might have been for her older sister's debut, but it was most likely for herself.

"We need a header and an icon. They're slightly different sizes for MyTube and Tmitter, but I think using the same images is fine."

"So, we have to make these ourselves?"

"That's right. But it's not too difficult. Trimming an icon is easy, and the header…"

I opened a software as Mai-san spoke.

I had used similar tools during school lessons.

"This is what you'd call painting software. This one's called Mediband Paint. It's amazing because most functions are available for free. You can do pretty much all image editing with this."

According to My-san, "Mastering multiple software tools is tough.".

It was a relief for me since trying to learn too many things was overwhelming.

"Just use it, specify the canvas size… yeah, and then arrange the elements…"

I prepared a suitable background and placed the logo Mai-san had made.

With just that, a nice-looking header was complete.

"I-It's surprisingly easy."

"Well, it's mostly thanks to the good logo design."

After that, I wrote the self-introduction texts for MyTube and Tmitter.

I also added a favorite mark next to the name.

"Oh, you made it a [peace sign]? Yeah, I think it's nice. How about tweeting a self-introduction on Tmitter? Honestly, I wish we could have promoted more beforehand, but…"

I added hashtags and created the text.

Mai-san recommended tags like #新人VTuber, #VTuber準備中, and #VTuberはじめました.

However…

While attaching a "selfie," I asked.

"Um, does this have that much effect?"

"To be honest, not really, but it's better than nothing! It's more effective than a random MyTube video from an unknown channel."

In other words, from here on, it would depend on luck and effort.

"But you know, it still feels a bit lonely."

"Sharp observation! The most effective promotion on Tmitter is videos!"

"What!? Really?"

When Iroha-sama debuted, she posted a self-introduction video on MyTube and a shorter version on Twitter for promotion.

So, what I had to do next?

"That's right! Since you're done creating the account, next up is finally shooting the video!"

"…!"

We had finally reached this point.

I could sense that even View-sensei's lessons had transitioned into the grand finale of Mai-san's VTuber debut—.
