Chapter 9 - I find you tolerable
Marry him?
Haha! Now it all made sense to her! It was a dream! Chen Feng pinched her wrist to wake up from that bizarre dream. She didn’t wake up. Perhaps, she had to pinch harder. She tried again.
Huh? Still didn’t wake up?
"Ms. Chen I’m being serious here. My request is that you marry me"
Now she was sure that Gods were having a fun time watching her bizarre life from above.
Chen Feng looked at that flawless, chiseled face who was the dream of so many girls. Countless women would sell themselves just to be with him for a night. And the thought of marrying him was a fantasy they wouldn’t dare to indulge themselves into.
"Mr. Li I’m not understanding you. Are you asking for a fake marriage?"
"A trial marriage"
"You are asking for a real marriage?", she asked; her voice shocked; disbelief brimming in her deep brown eyes and somehow making her look like a clueless kitten.
"Yes", Li Luxian replied simply sparing the use of words.
Chen Feng was quiet for a while.
"I don’t get you. Mr. Li, it is so...", Chen Feng trailed off not sure what to say.
"But this is what my request is"
Chen Feng wanted to cry. Was it alright to call it a request when she had no other choice other than agreeing to it? A request is something where you have at least the right of choice!
"Secretary Zhang", Li Luxian said finally, finding his wife about to cry.
"Yes, Mr. Li", he pulled out a long printed contract and gave it to her.
With her cold fingers, Chen Feng opened the pages and started reading its contract. She realized that Mr. Li was not joking. He came well prepared for what he wanted from her that indicated that he was serious about that marriage thing. She took her time reading the terms with utmost heed and vigilant of every minute detail. Li Luxian waited patiently for her to finish. His wife was not naive at all.
"The contract stated I’m obliged to stay in a marriage with you for a time period of a year. After the time if any of the participants want to back out from the marriage, then we have the liberty to get it?", Chen Feng wanted to confirm.
"Yes.", Li Luxian said coldly. He didn’t quite like the idea of backing out.
"I still don’t understand why", Chen Feng said closing the file and stared at Li Luxian with some hesitancy evident in her eyes, "The scandal is not that big to force you to the way to marriage. And given your power and influence, you have the ability to easily dismiss it without the marriage and you already have a fiance..."
"I’ve other reasons for this marriage and don’t concern about my fiance. Our engagement was only limited to the words between elders. There was no involvement of personal feelings"
This marriage proposal could prove to be a great opportunity for her. But she wanted to stay safe and didn’t want to fall into a trap so she had to know his reasons. So she chose to say her next words.
"Marrying someone is not a simple decision. I hope Mr. Li understand it and inform me about his reasons so I could reach a better conclusion"
Though she knew that she had no choice but to concede to his so-called ’request’ because if he was to pursue the matter of the damage caused by her, he could simply ruin her; she still wanted to know his reasons.
Better safe than sorry.
Li Luxian was silent for a while trying to look past the calculative woman in front of him. Having a long sight over consequences than rashly making a decision.
Hmm. He liked her.
"I want to get rid of my fiance"
"Wang Hualing?"
"Yes. Like I said before our engagement was forced by elders and...", Li Luxian said in a monotonous voice, "She is bit eccentric"
"Eccentric?"
Wang Hualing was the perfect image of a woman portrayed on media. An elegant, quiet and innocent reputation that was the dream of so many men. Her calm and beautiful character won her countless praises all over the media. And not to count the countless awards she won in her career as an A list actress.
And that man just called her eccentric?
"So the main purpose of this marriage is to get rid of your fiance?", Chen Feng wanted to be clear.
That made sense.
"That is one of the reasons. But not the main reason.’", Li Luxian said. "The main reason is., I’m genuinely interested in you."
Chen Feng fell silent.
"Mr. Li... are you being honest?"
"Yes"
She didn’t believe him. He must be having ulterior motives. But nevertheless, her heart pounded in her chest.
That was absurd. They had just one encounter and he was already interested in her?
Was it because of her looks?
Chen Feng still couldn’t understand him. Although she was pretty, there was no lack of beauties for someone like Li Luxian. And those beauties excelled her in a lot of fields like education, family background, and links.
"There are a lot of women better than me who are far better than me and are quite capable of capturing your interest"
"So?"
"So what do you find in me to choose me for this role?"
"Given the present situation with the scandal, you are the best candidate."
"Is that all?"
"More than that, I find you tolerable"

Chen Feng was sure now that this man had a big hole in his head. How could someone like him take Li co-operation to such heights? Even if you want to court a girl, ’I find you tolerable’ is not the best pick up line. In the end, she could only sigh.
Chen Feng reread the terms of marriage.
"And if I agree to marry you, you would forget about all the losses caused by me and I’ll free after a year?"
"Yes", he agreed though he wouldn’t be setting her free so easily.
Chen Feng sighed. That was escalating so quickly and her mind was lagging behind the bizarre turning of events.
"But you don’t really know me well to say that I’m tolerable to you or not"
"Ms. Chen I’m Li Luxian. I just need one glance to know the person’s character"
Chen Feng chewed the inside of her cheek. He was right. He was not on the top of the food chain for no reason. At the age of just twenty-seven, he was supporting the business that expanded internationally. If not for his discernment and perspicacity, then how could he make his mark on the world?
Chen Feng realized he must have already had a background check on her prior to proposing marriage to her. So he must have already known everything about her. And he must already know everything about her.
Her lips curled up into an alluring smile.
"I tend to be shameless and if we are going to get married, I might take advantage of your name"
Her saying this implicated that she was agreeing into marrying him. Li Luxian felt relaxed. Though he was sure that she would agree to marry him. If she didn’t, he would make her agree. But having her to agree easily solved a lot of trouble for him.
"My wife can use my name as she wishes", he said in a cheerful tune.
Listening to the word wife, Chen Feng couldn’t help her lips from tilting up. She looked at the pile of bills lying on the table. In just two days she was to be kicked out of her apartment.
She laughed. If this was an opportunity sent by Gods then would she disagree with it?
"Mr. Li I agree to marry you"
