Chapter 350: Proxy for Dad

The following day, Kimmy and Cain both woke up early and got ready to attend the royal wedding.

Daniel was also ready and waiting for them at the dining hall when the couple came down for a quick breakfast.

“So many people are excited for today. Your mother is very busy making sure that everything goes well. She barely visits me nowadays,” Daniel commented.

Kimmy chuckled and said, “Ah, don’t worry, father. She will be back to bug you often after today’s wedding...”

“Hahaha. You’re right, dear, but I’m not sure she’ll be free since next is her own daughter’s wedding. I’m sure she’s eager to manage and plan everything,” Daniel noted. Cain maintained a stiff smile as he was reminded of how Cedric and Gavin advised him to stay away from Kimmy in case he turned into a vampire and started craving human blood. He was still reluctant to do so even if it was only until they found a cure for it which would be to kill the exordium that infected Cedric.

‘Oh God, please... Let me stay human,’ he prayed silently. He was deep in his thoughts praying for his health when he heard his phone ring making him flinch.

He swallowed nervously when he saw Cedric’s name on the screen. It’s funny how eager he was to talk to Cedric when he first heard that he was here but right now talking to him is the last thing he wants to do. Just seeing his name makes his heart drop to his stomach. If he had a choice he would definitely not answer this call and avoid the twins for as long as possible.

.....

He looked at his phone for a few more seconds and excused himself to answer the call knowing he couldn’t put it off any longer.

“We have to meet after the wedding ceremony, we need to meet. I need your blood sample to get it analyzed by an expert. The person who saved me sent a message that their facility is fully built and ready,” Cedric informed.

“You only my blood? Don’t I need to go there and get a full-body check-up?” Cain inquired.

Cedric chuckled, “No, dummy. Those people like to keep to themselves and don’t like to mingle with others so sending your blood sample will be enough. You’re lucky that they succeeded in developing such equipment just in time. When I was first infected they had to monitor me like a lab rat.”

“You mean lab bat?!” Cain wryly scoffed, making Cedric laugh before he heard a beep from the other line.

“That brute just hung up!” he muttered with a frown. He breathed deeply and composed himself before returning to the dining hall.

After finishing their breakfast they headed out to the cathedral where the wedding was held. It was one of the oldest and most prestigious cathedrals, where all the royal weddings were held. Kimmy took a seat beside her mother before the ceremony began. Cain sat on her other side, holding her hand firmly. The ceremony went smoothly without a hitch. Kimmy almost cried when she heard Brione and Gavin exchange their vows because it was so romantic and touching.

“Let’s also have a big family with lots of children,” Cain playfully whispered in Kimmy’s ear repeating one of Gavin’s vows.

“Oh! And how many children is that?” Kimmy whispered back.

“At least enough to form a basketball team?!” Cain murmured with excitement in his voice. Kimmy could only chuckle helplessly but unknown to the couple, Kimmy’s mother Leila who was eavesdropping on their conversation could not hide her excitement at the thought of becoming a grandma soon.

Leila then looked at the empty seat next to her and sighed. Edward was supposed to sit there... She almost forgot that her divorce has been finalized and Edward is no longer her husband.

Kimmy noticed the disappointed look on Leila’s face as looked at the vacant seat which should have been her father’s. She took her mother’s hand and whispered, “You did a great job today, mom. But can you please make my wedding a bit more simple than this? You know I don’t like crowds too much.”

Kimmy was trying to distract her mother knowing she was still upset despite her smiling at everyone. Her father should consider himself lucky that her mother convinced Lucasnot to press charges against him and his mistress.

Leila smiled softly at Kimmy, gently squeezing her hand and said, “Sure, dear. We’ll do it your way.”

“Mom, why don’t you go on a trip for a while after this? Me and Cain are planning to visit his family abroad. How about tagging along with us?” Kimmy suggested with a wide smile. A sudden idea popped up in her head and she sneakily glanced at Uncle Sean, who was sitting beside her Uncle Lucas.

“Yes, mother. It would be great if you can join us. Honestly speaking my mother has been wanting to see you again. I’m sure she would be delighted to know that you’re coming with us,” Cain, who heard Kimmy’s suggestion, seconded. He somehow figured out what his dear Kimberly was trying to do when he saw her side glance at Sean.

“Though this is too sudden, it’s indeed a good idea. It’s only natural for me to visit your family abroad before the wedding, especially since your mother can no longer travel.” Leila agreed.

Kimmy chuckled and announced, “Ah, that’s not the only reason mom. We both were planning to have a civil wedding over there in the presence of his family. We also thought of arranging a party to celebrate it with his family and friends.”

“Oh, I didn’t know that! Why didn’t you say so earlier?” Leila was surprised but glad that the couple thought of doing that.

“I will also need uncle Sean to come!” Kimmy excitedly informed, making Leila’s forehead crease as she asked, “Sean? Why do you need him?”

“Proxy for Dad,” Kimmy blurted.

Leila frowned more. Kimmy chuckled and said, “I would love to bring Uncle Lucas but he’s not fit to travel so the only choice I have is Uncle Sean.”

“Am I not enough? Since I am your mother, I’m sure it’s already good enough that you have me. Why do you need to bother Sean when you know how busy he is?!”

“I need Uncle Sean too. Mom, I’m having a personal struggle, so can you just treat this as an advance gift for my wedding?” Kimmy pleaded with her mother showing her puppy eyes.

Leila was still reluctant so her eyes darted towards Cain who gave her a signal to agree so in the end, Leila could only agree. “Alright. Do as you wish. I just want you to be happy,” she said while wondering what was going on. She decided to talk to Cain later and ask him if Kimmy was suffering emotionally because of her divorce.
