The night before the coronation day…
Dino shook his head and gave Cain a teasing grin as he said, "She's going to pick you up, and she sounded annoyed."
"Call her again and tell her that I passed out and I will sleep here instead," Cain instructed. He did not want Kimmy to pick him up and let her drive alone at this hour. He only wanted to know her reaction, if she would be willing to go pick him up or not.
"Tsk… I'm dying of curiosity. I thought you hated her, so what's going on, huh? And she's even working for you. Geez, why did I even agree to collaborate with you? Why don't you call her yourself?" Dino questioned. He and Cain were good friends, almost like brothers. They studied at the same school abroad and stayed together at the same boarding school at college. Both studied medicine, but he specialized in obstetrics and gynecology.
"Just do what I said, Dino. I know what I'm doing," Cain said with a smile.
"You do?" Dino asked sarcastically as he heaved a sigh and called Kimmy the second time, informing her what Cain told him to.
"Happy?" Dino mumbled as soon as he ended the call.
"Are you sure you know what you're doing? Just make sure you won't end up getting drunk again for the whole week and bug me here in my place instead!" Dino complained.
Cain chuckled and said, "Well, that's the benefit of having a good friend like you."
"Ah! I will close my door to you. You're good friends with Cedric, too, so why not try to bug him instead? Ah, I forgot… You can't since the one making you cry is Kimmy, his cousin…" Dino commented before drinking from the bottle he was holding.
"Yeah, so don't push me away to Cedric. I wonder when he is coming back, though… Anyway, how did she react?" Cain asked, coming back to the matter at hand.
Dino rolled his eyes as he answered, "You should have asked me to put it on loudspeaker. It's already late, Cain, and you're asking a woman to pick you up. Of course, she sounded annoyed." Dino sounded annoyed too. Maybe that would bring the insane Cain back to his senses.
He saw how Cain had a playful smile that he could only shake his head. "You're still head over heels for her. Did you confess? How you used to stalk her before, huh, whenever you return here for a vacation."
"I didn't stalk her, okay. Just looked at her from afar…" Cain defended.
"Yeah, right, sneaking around her campus and so on… Ah, you're completely hopeless!" Dino scolded and Cain only answered him with a chuckle.
Dino was about to drink another gulp of beer from his bottle, but Cain grabbed the bottle seeing how Dino was drunk already.
"That's enough for your birthday celebration. Everyone here is so wasted, including your sister. You should ask your driver to drop Liza at her place by now. Don't let her drive in that state… I will go now..." Cain reminded Dino.
"Why not drop her yourself? You know I trust you more than anyone for my sister. You should get her and drop her at her unit instead," Dino mumbled. Liza tried everything to get Cain's attention, but that brute was like a stone. Cain did not get involved with any other woman since that incident with Kimmy running away. Cain only focused his energy on work and looking after his father.
Liza did not listen to anyone, even him. She only listened to Cain, and only Cain would manage to handle his wild sister.
"Ah, Liza is so wild, and I'm scared of her eating me out alive, so please be a good brother and take care of her. She's so drunk now and too loud," Cain mumbled with a grin as he patted Dino's shoulder then quickly left the place.
Liza admired him, and he was aware of it since Liza was too vocal about it. He already lost count on how many times Liza tried to get intimate with him whenever she would get an opportunity. Dino was aware of it but, unfortunately, he could do nothing about his sister. Dino trusted him since he was a man who would not take advantage of his sister. Cain only saw Liza as a sister and nothing more. That was why even when Liza took off her clothes in front of him, he would turn away from her.
Cain went inside his car and drove out of Dino's place. He passed by the Lewis Mansion and stopped his car not far from the gate.
Cain sighed hard, wondering if he would get Kimmy again like last time, but he knew he shouldn't because aunt Leila would not like it.
He stepped on the gas and drove away to his home instead. As soon as he arrived home, he looked for his father, and his nurse told him that his father wanted to rest early in his room.
He quietly went inside his father's room to check on him. He put his quilt up and looked at his father, who was sleeping peacefully. He looked normal when he was asleep like he was his old self. He admired his father a lot for being an understanding person who did not harbor grudges on people. Regardless of what happened to his family before, he kept his excellent relationship with the royal family and convinced him to accept the former King Lucas' offer to be the head doctor of the royal family.
He took the risk of the arranged marriage before, and now he was again taking another risk, hoping this time it would only be him that would suffer if things didn't go his way. It was okay if it was only him who would suffer and not his father... He wondered if that would be possible.
Cain heaved another long deep sigh before he went out of his father's room and walked towards his own bedroom. He took a quick shower and slumped his body on his bed. Kimmy was no longer in the next room, and he felt empty without her around. It was better that she was here torturing him around than her drifting away from him once again.
He grabbed his mobile phone then sat on the bed, resting his back on the headrest of his bed. He opened the files that Kevin sent to him. It was all about Harry, and it was a very confidential file that Gavin managed to get from Brione's sister-in-law Luo.
Kimmy knew about Harry's history, which drew her to him… witnessing how Harry was punishing himself for his mistakes.
"Ah, Kimberly," Cain frustratingly whispered. Did he have to be a bad guy just for Kimmy to trust him? It was a tricky question, but as a psychologist, he could answer it easily.
Cain couldn't sleep, so he stood up to drink more alcohol. Tomorrow was another day, and he should have started speeding up things now, knowing someone was blocking his way towards Kimmy's heart. He would take a shortcut route since it was the only option now.
He finally dozed off to sleep.
The following day, Cain woke up late that he cursed, and immediately prepared like a flash. He was the head doctor of the royal family, so it was only prudent for him to attend the coronation day.
His father saw him rushing out and said, "Ah, I thought you didn't have plans on attending the gathering, so I didn't ask the servants to wake you up."
Cain scratched his head and said, "Well, the King invited us both, and it won't look good if both our presence are not there. I will head out now, dad. See you later."
As he expected, the ceremony was already finished when he arrived. Everyone was too busy having a conversation at the cocktail after-party. He approached Gavin and said, "Congratulations, Your Majesty, our new King." slightly bowing.
Then he looked at Brione and greeted their new Queen as well.
"And why are you late, head doctor? The ceremony has ended already, and I only saw you now. Didn't you get enough sleep after checking the files I sent you?" Gavin teased Cain because the files also included some CCTV footage and photos of Kimmy with Harry. Some videos had no audio, but it was clear how Kimmy was pursuing Harry in most of them.
"Well…" Cain was only able to utter a word, making Gavin chuckle more. It annoyed him seeing how well Kimmy treated that Harry before.
"I heard I have an intruder inside the palace. I can reject his entrance, but I don't know what comes into me that I allow him to enter as a substitute for one of the reporters. I guess I'm just curious to see him and what he's planning to do," Gavin mumbled, making Cain crease his forehead.
"What do you mean, Your Majesty?" Cain asked, confused.
Brione interrupted and commented, "Harry is here. We believe he made his way inside the palace to see Kimmy. You should hurry and look around. Intercept their meeting..."
"My Queen!" Gavin suddenly scolded. He looked at his wife in disbelief.
"What? I cheer for Cain…"
Brione looked at him and added, "I will go now and take Kimmy away from here if I were you…"
"My King and Queen… I shall take my leave then.." Cain slightly bowed.
