-UNEDITED-

The trial for Duncan started early, and the prosecutors presented all the evidence against him one after another. Olivia monitored the trial, making sure nothing would go wrong. Her mother did not attend the trial to take care of her father, and she thought that it was a good decision since it would only bring back the pain of losing Oliver once she heard every statement on how Oliver died.

It became known to the people how Duncan manipulated everyone, including the previous prime minister, to get on Lucas. They could not do much even though Olivia's family wanted to hide what happened to Oliver. They couldn't care less now since what matters most is Oliver received the justice he deserved for his death.

Olivia should be happy watching Duncan being fried alive and helpless at the stand. So how come she was still bothered? The trial had a short break. Olivia took that time to see Duncan in his room. It could be a wrong move that she would regret later, but she wanted to ask him something.

He was sitting on a chair with his head down. He was zoning out. He kept on asking for Gavin's presence, but like Gavin stated yesterday… it would be the last time they would see each other. Gavin did not bother to watch the trial, and Olivia would do the same if she were Gavin.

Olivia sat in front of him with a blank expression.

Noticing her presence, Duncan asked, "Why are you here? Aren't you satisfied watching me fall during the trial?"

"Why did you do that? Why kill an innocent man that's like your own son? He is Gavin's age… So young and…" Olivia could not finish her sentence. She felt a lump on her throat as she tried to suppress her emotions.

"I had to do it - to show my power so all of you won't be stubborn…" Duncan answered. He was accepting his doom because it was Gavin who defeated him. It was Gavin, his son, and not Lucas.

"And you claimed yourself a good father huh?" Olivia whispered in a cold tone, keeping her emotions intact and not to cry.

"Taking away the sons of others… First Gavin… Then Cedric and my brother Oliver. And yet you're claiming that you are a good father. What a bullsh*t headed you are… I will make sure that today will be the last day you can breathe air...." Olivia, with gritted teeth, hissed before she stood up from her seat to leave.

"And what about you? Do you think it's all on me, huh? That I am the only one responsible for your brother's death? I clearly warned all of you, but you, in particular, don't listen well, so don't put the blame all on me because you have your brother's blood in your hands."

Olivia fisted her palm till her knuckles were all white. With a clenched jaw, she turned around to face Duncan and said, "you love your son so much. Gavin is your world that you're willing to accept everything coming your way now since it was Gavin who defeated you."

Duncan did not respond. Olivia was right, but he would not confirm it to her. He could already read what was inside the woman's head with her expression alone.

Olivia smirked and then retorted, "I will make his life miserable. How about that? I will do everything in my power to bring your son that you love down. I will make him suffer so that you can enjoy watching him in despair while you're in hell."

Duncan was emotionless as he stated, "You can't do that. I raised my son so well that no one could beat him… you will only hurt yourself in the process, Olivia. Whatever it is that you're thinking, don't do it. Look at me as an example of what happens to people if they harbor hatred far too long."

Olivia had a satisfied smile as she mocked, "You do care for Gavin a lot… Don't worry, I won't hurt him, but I will surely not make things easy. It's time that we end this monarchy… I will end the royal family's power with Gavin. So don't forget to watch me in hell doing that to your precious son!"

Her body was shaking as she turned around and left the room.

The trial resumed, and as everybody expected, Duncan received a 'guilty' verdict with a death sentence.

Sean reported the result to Gavin and Lucas through a call.

Gavin was with Brione inside the car when he heard it. He and Brione had a very long day as newly crowned King and Queen since he refused to delay or reschedule their appointments. He needed this instead of just staying inside the palace.

He wanted to feel busy and be absorbed doing other things because he feared getting swayed because of his filial love for Duncan. They spent more than twenty years together, and he could not just throw those away like that. The connection and the bond they had were strong. No matter what, Duncan was still his father in heart, and it won't get away quickly.

"Are you sure you don't want to see him anymore?" Brione asked. Gavin pulled Brione in his embrace. All he needed was his wife's warmth to feel at ease.

"There's no need to see him, sweetheart. Like I told him yesterday, that day would be the last. It would be painful for me to see his situation right now." Gavin whispered with a sigh.

"Alright, let's just both work hard now and the next more days to come. I will ask Mitch to add more work for you regarding the company too. How is that? Do you think you will be busy enough?" Brione said in jest, trying to lighten up the mood.

Gavin chuckled and kissed her head as he replied, "I prefer that it's you who will keep me busy, sweetheart, whenever you have the opportunity. How about that?"

Brione's face crumpled as she complained, "But if I do that, I would end up swollen, and my body will ache all over!"

Last time, Gavin did not stop till she dropped! Not that she was complaining, but she still needed her beauty sleep, of course! Gavin only chuckled, but deep inside, he could not help thinking about the man he used to call Father for so many years.
