Book 5: Chapter 47:2: Chen Heng’s Second Surprise, Part 2

“Everyone, I have something to do. I’ll be upstairs.” Luo Li took two steps back, held up her skirt, and curtsied to everyone present, then instantly disappeared.

This is really weird. Why is Luo Li being so…polite? Mo Qingtong wondered after Luo Li’s courteous exit.

Stroking his chin, Chen Heng stared at the spot where Luo Li had been. An odd thought sparked in his mind. I might have fallen for Luo Li’s acting. It seems impossible for Luo Li to cry.

He’d seen many things with the Absolute Precognition. Luo Li could be utterly ruthless in accomplishing her objectives when carrying out missions for the Special Affairs Bureau. Furthermore, her acting skills were honed to perfection, earning the approval of the Special Affairs Bureau’s specially hired master of disguise (master scam artist).

Luo Li could easily play the victim; it was as simple as eating or drinking to her. But given the sudden attack he’d suffered, Chen Heng found it a little hard to think as clearly as usual.

He didn’t worry about it, though. After all, he wasn’t the one at a loss.

Strangely, he didn’t feel like anyone suffered a loss in the recent events.

However, the words Luo Li whispered into his ear had truly stunned him. They were so in character for Luo Li, and the heated emotions they conveyed left Chen Heng feeling a bit stifled.

Chen Heng was not afraid of these fiery emotions, just a tad uneasy, perturbed by the lack of his memory from before the time reversal. Since his ancestor confirmed it was a world reset, that meant he had indeed experienced those events with Luo Li. He figured he should find a way to regain his lost memories sometime.

However, he had to admit he was quite happy that someone as adorable and beautiful as Luo Li liked him. Who wouldn’t be? Men, right?

“Ahem! Ahem! Qingtong, the remaining association invitation letters should arrive after I return from this mission. I’ll invite you all to the association then,” Chen Heng declared, turning to the crowd in the living room. He noticed Mo Qingtong’s tearful eyes and felt a twinge of a headache.

Mo Qingtong’s expression was like someone had taken a bite out of the cabbage she’d been nurturing for a decade. To pacify her, he pulled out the matter of the association invitation letters. Besides, since Luo Li knew he’d been lying, there was no real difference between sending the invitation letters sooner or later.

Luo Li had made her feelings clear, so he had to reciprocate.

“You promised. No take-backs.” Mo Qingtong, whose eyes had been tearing up, suddenly beamed at Chen Heng.

“Sirin and I are going on the mission now.”

“Hold on, Ah Heng. I want to come, too. I’m your Servant, and since you caught me with that Poké Ball, I should be able to join you. After all, we’re inseparable now.” Jeanne d’Arc, who’d been enjoying the show from the sofa with Fafnir in her arms, stood up just as Chen Heng was about to leave with Sirin.

“You’re coming, Jeanne d’Arc?” Chen Heng was taken aback. Jeanne d’Arc usually liked to stay home. She hadn’t even been keen on their vacation. He didn’t expect her to want to join him on this mission.

“What’s wrong? Can’t I? As your pet, I should be able to help you somehow.” Jeanne d’Arc emphasized the word “pet.”

“Of course you can. After all, that world can be considered your original world, even if it’s a parallel one. Going back home for a visit wouldn’t be bad, right? Fafnir, are you coming?”

“Me? Never mind…of course, I’m going.” Initially, Fafnir didn’t want to go. But as she was about to refuse, Jeanne d’Arc gave her a pinch. Although it didn’t hurt, she got the message.

If Jeanne d’Arc wanted to go, then Fafnir, who was summoned to accompany her, had to go as well.

Besides, Fafnir missed the time when she was powerful in the Type-Moon world.

In the Type-Moon world, Fafnir was a formidable, evil dragon, feared by all; babies would cry at the mention of her name. However, she’d turned into a lazy pet who loved to eat after coming to Chen Heng’s house. Moreover, she liked this life.

Even if I—the evil dragon Fafnir—spend my days eating chips and drinking cola, I am still an evil dragon who remembers her mission.

“Awooo, awooo, awooo—” Evil dragon roar!

Although Fafnir saw herself as roaring ferociously, to Chen Heng and the others, it seemed like she’d suddenly gone mad and started barking like a dog.

After all, she was too small now. It would be considered an evil dragon roar only if she’d regained her original size. Now, it could only be described as a hungry dragon roar.

[TL Note: The words for “evil” and “hungry” in Chinese sound the same but are different characters. This here is a wordplay based on that.]

“Fafnir, what’s wrong? Why are you barking like a dog all of a sudden?”

“Huh? Jeanne d’Arc, this is an evil dragon roar! What do you mean, ‘barking like a dog’?”

“Uh…evil dragon roar?”

“Yes, is there a problem?”

“I have no issues if it makes you happy, but I’m not sure the others would agree.” Jeanne d’Arc pointed to Chen Heng and the others.

Fafnir followed the direction Jeanne d’Arc’s finger pointed and saw Chen Heng staring at her strangely. “What are you looking at? Be careful, or I’ll bite you.”

“Hmm? Fafnir, it seems you’ve forgotten who your master is, enjoying your carefree time. Want some training? I won’t even use my hands and feet.” Chen Heng cracked his knuckles menacingly while looking at Fafnir.

“I’m sorry; I really am. I won’t do it again.” Fafnir, the mighty evil dragon, quickly surrendered. She knew she absolutely, positively couldn’t defeat Chen Heng. Not use your hands and feet? Don’t think I don’t know you’ll use abilities.

Even if Fafnir could beat Chen Heng, she wouldn’t dare to fight.

She’d seen the Chen Clan’s ancestor a few days ago. That person—no, he couldn’t even be considered a person but a higher-level being—exerted a pressure that remained fresh in her memory.
