Book 5: Chapter 38:2: Chen Heng Holds No Grudges Whatsoever (Laughs), Part 2
While in the sky, the lightning dragon moved extremely quickly and could hinder the three Valkyries’ advance. However, its speed was not worth mentioning after it landed. After all, dragons moved by flying in the first place.
Of course, the lightning dragon was not helpless before the three Valkyries. The current situation was due to Chen Heng’s commands to the lightning dragons the previous day. The lightning dragons were to go easy on any moving objects with biological reactions and were not to kill them.
This prevented the lightning dragons from using many of their powerful moves. They could only make lightning fall. This also explained why only one lightning dragon obstructed the three.
After some time, the three Valkyries had advanced five kilometers.
“Squad Leader, this lightning dragon looks powerful, but it is merely decoration. It is just effective on those mechs.” While running, Shigure Kira mocked the lightning dragon.
“Don’t get careless. For some reason, the lightning dragon is not dealing with Valkyries like it had the autonomous mechs; it has not used anything like dragon breath or other powerful moves.” Before Cecilia could spend much time with her child, that bastard Otto activated her, exploiting her and making her leave her child behind to go on a mission.
“Furthermore, that lightning dragon foolishly landed on the ground earlier. Did its intelligence suddenly decrease? Or did the controller of the lightning dragon take command? It looks like the person called Chen Heng is not very smart.”
When Chen Heng heard this, his face darkened. The high-definition Spiritual Energy screen broadcast these words to his ears.
Excellent. I suspect you—Shigure Kira—are intentionally putting this Chen on the spot. Since you said that, don’t blame me for being ruthless.
Chen Heng immediately allocated half of the 108 lightning dragons in the Demon-Subduing Lightning Dragon Ritual Array—which was 54 lightning dragons—to the three Valkyries.
Rumble…! Rumble…! Rumble…! Thunder roared and boomed outside Babylon Labs. Fifty-three lightning dragons charged down at the three Valkyries from the black thunderclouds covering a radius of 20 kilometers around Babylon Labs.
“…Squad Leader, do you think these lightning dragons heard us badmouthing—”
Before Shigure Kira finished speaking, dozens of lightning bolts shot toward her. However, none fell on Cecilia and Cheng Lixue.
Shigure Kira moved quickly, dodging the lightning bolts. However, numbers were hard to overcome. Eventually, a lightning bolt struck her.
The lightning had a numbing effect, so when it struck her, she froze for a second. During this one second, over thirty more lightning bolts struck her, leaving her hair frizzy. She flopped into the snow, her body charred.
Of course, Shigure Kira did not die. Chen Heng did not intend to kill these three Valkyries. Fu Hua’s disciple was among them, which limited Chen Heng’s options.
Immortal Phoenix was truly miserable, extremely miserable, indeed. Back then, she took in seven disciples out of kindness. Cheng Lixue was off-limits, and so was his mother-in-law—ahem, Cecilia—he could not attack her. This left only Shigure Kira as a target. This was absolutely not a personal grudge, not at all. Chen Heng held no grudges whatsoever.
[TL Note: The mother-in-law reference is likely because Cecilia played the role of Sirin’s mother in an illusion in the original storyline. Cecilia showed Sirin motherly love even though she knew it was an illusion meant to trap her and Siegfried there.]
Cecilia looked at the fallen Shigure Kira. She stopped, wanting to drag Shigure Kira along. However, she had only just picked up Shigure Kira when a lightning bolt struck her foot. Cheng Lixue was a loyal person and would not leave the two to escape alone. So, the following scene took place.
Cecilia carried Shigure Kira while Cheng Lixue had her back to Cecilia, guarding against the lightning dragons. The 54 massive lightning dragons surrounded the three. Twenty-seven flew in the sky, while 27 came to the ground. The three were now in a desperate situation.
“Squad Leader, is Shigure Kira fine?”
“She’s fine. Although the lightning zapped her so many times, the shocks are relatively mild, so no major injuries. The electricity just numbed her; she will eventually recover from it.” Cecilia checked Shigure Kira’s body and did not find severe injuries.
“What should we do now?” Shigure Kira warily eyed the many lightning dragons surrounding them.
“Calm down; don’t be rash. These lightning dragons are just surrounding us without harming us. They only injured Shigure Kira instead of killing her. There should not be much malice.”
“Squad…Squad Leader, I suspect the controller of these lightning dragons is an extremely petty person. He must have heard me badmouthing him earlier. Ah!” Shigure Kira could speak after resting and trembling on Cecilia’s shoulder for a while. Now, she did her best to stand on her own.
Unfortunately, she should not have said that. The moment she did, dozens more lightning bolts struck her body. After all her efforts to stand up independently, white smoke came from her mouth as she fell back into the snow.
“…” Cecilia and Cheng Lixue watched as Shigure Kira got electrocuted again, stunned and helpless. If Cecilia had known, she would have covered Shigure Kira’s mouth before Shigure Kira spoke. Unfortunately, there were no ifs in the world.
“Squad Leader, this Chen Heng…” The fallen Shigure Kira raised her head. As she spoke, she extended a trembling hand to point a middle finger at the sky.
Boom! Another lightning bolt streaked over at extreme speed to strike Shigure Kira.
