Book 5: Chapter 18: Unsealing the Memories

“Alright, alright, alright. I’ll stop laughing. I’ll stop laughing. By the way, System 10086 sealed your memories. Initially, you would have to wait until you returned to your world before they would automatically be unsealed. However, Luo Li also has a system, and her system is stronger than System 10086. So, are you ready to unseal your memories?”

“I’m ready. Are we doing it now?” Sirin looked at Luo Li, who was on the sofa.

“Are you really ready?”

“I’m really ready. Elder Brother, you are very bothersome.”

“Let me tell you first: those are not good memories. They should be pretty terrible to you.”

“Elder Brother!”

After Sirin had found out, she already felt very nervous, but Chen Heng kept poking at her now.

Actually, Chen Heng did this to get Sirin to relax. She had been sulking since he told her all this. Furthermore, she looked like she was doubting life.

“2333, go!”

“Although 2333 is my number, I keep feeling you are insulting me. Had I known, I would not have chosen this number. Damn it!” Although System 2333 complained while hovering above Luo Li’s head, it still obeyed.

[TL Note: 2333 is Chinese net slang for loud laughter. It’s like LOL or LMAO.]

A beam of light shot from the screen above Luo Li and hit Sirin’s head. Then Sirin sat there, stunned.

“Oy! 2333, are you confident? Will there be any problems?” Chen Heng looked at System 2333 somewhat skeptically.

“Even if you are Luo Li’s beloved elder brother, you cannot doubt my abilities—”

“Ahem! Ahem!” Luo Li interrupted System 2333 before it could finish.

“I mean, you can fully trust in my abilities. The system mainframe birthed less than 200 systems, and the numbers of the systems are in the order of their birth, but it is not sequential. The number of a newer system has to be larger than the one before it. System 10086 is one of the newest systems; you cannot compare me to it. I am one of the forward-ranking systems.” As the system spoke, its screen displayed its avatar, which resembled Patchouli, looking very proud.

Chen Heng looked at the two-dimensional figure on the screen and found it increasingly disturbing.

“That means any new system after this cannot have a number lower than 10086?”

“That’s right.”

“There are less than 200 systems, and yet you systems managed to push the number to over 10,000. What a bunch of geniuses!”

“It can’t be helped. The number is like the names of you humans. Every system wants to have a unique name, just like my 2333. Alright. Let’s stop talking about this. Your younger sister’s memories have been restored.”

When the system reminded Chen Heng, he discovered Sirin’s dazed expression had changed. Then he saw her eyes turning wet.

Sirin immediately burst into tears and rushed into Chen Heng’s embrace.

“Mama! Bella! Avrora! Agata…” Sirin called out various names as she cried increasingly louder.

[TL Note: Avrora and Agata were fellow test subjects with Sirin and Bella in Babylon Tower. Sirin became good friends with these test subjects. Galina was not mentioned in the above but was part of the group. In the Honkai 2nd comic, Sirin “revived” these four when she became the Herrscher of the Void. Here are the profiles of the three newly mentioned characters: /wiki/Avrora, /wiki/Agata, and /wiki/Galina.]

Chen Heng had never seen such a scene before. When he first met Sirin, she had not cried like this, even though she appeared extremely fearful.

As for Luo Li, that went without saying. Perhaps she had already drained all her tears while in the laboratory. Anyway, he had never seen Luo Li cry.

This situation caught Chen Heng off-guard. He could only keep patting and stroking Sirin on the back.

Although Chen Heng did not know if this method would be helpful, it was all he could think of. By the way, he learned this from television shows; there had been many scenes of mothers consoling their children.

Sirin cried like this for four or five minutes before her crying slowly abated and eventually stopped.

Without Sirin noticing, Chen Heng executed a technique to put her to sleep; she fell asleep unawares.

Chen Heng had initially planned on letting her sleep first. However, when he saw her howling with grief, he knew she was upset, perhaps even crumbling mentally. He went with this to let her calm down first, thinking this would be the best.

If it did not work, he would just be Sirin’s mother for a while.

Of course, that was the last resort of all last resorts; he would absolutely not do that if possible.

Chen Heng had not spent time in the chat group the previous night, as he had gotten caught up studying the Complete Foundational Skillset for Cultivators.

Although the name “Complete Foundational Skillset for Cultivators” sounded low-key, it was genuinely a rare and fascinating thing. Most cultivators would not get to see anything like it.

This compilation contained all the basic barriers, ritual arrays, and techniques that cultivators could use. There were also simple forging and concocting techniques.

So, what about a test subject to practice those techniques on? Well, Chen Heng would only say the world consciousness was extremely useful.

Although the world consciousness would not be affected by the techniques—as confirmed by Chen Heng’s tests—he could sense whether he succeeded in executing them, regardless of their efficacy or lack thereof.

Working was one thing; the technique succeeding was another.

After Chen Heng verified Sirin was asleep, he gestured to everyone in the living room to be silent, then quietly carried her to her room.

Oh, right. I remember now. Do you still want to join the Re:Life Chat Group? The creator of the Re:Life Chat Group keeps asking.

This…just get him to keep the place for me first.

You…alright, alright. As long as you are happy.

By the way, how is it going with my ancestor’s matter?

Not very well. It is still under discussion. After all, this is no minor matter. You don’t need to worry about it. In any case, you can’t do anything. Very well, I’ll get the Re:Life Chat Group to leave a spot for you.

Initially, Chen Heng no longer wanted to join the Re:Life Chat Group after telling Luo Li and Mo Qingtong the truth. After all, the Dimension Administrators Association was enough. There were many people there, and he liked the atmosphere.
