Chapter 72: Marquis Xian Yu!

"Why did the envoy from Longdu have to come and attend the Battle of Boats Magnificence? How are we supposed to compete with him...”

"Shhh. Keep your voice down; don't let him hear you. Did you not see the hundreds of calvary standing ashore? Be careful of what you say; they might tear your mouth apart.”

"It seems like Fairy Yu will be reserved for the night by the envoy from Longdu. I wonder if she’ll submit given his status. I’ve heard that even the crown prince hasn’t truly managed to make her submit despite trying for the past few years.”

"Hehe. It would be great if she gave in. Then, we’d finally have a chance with her.”

The many guests on the other boats peered into the Jade Immortal Boat from the distance. They scrutinized Baron Xian and his company as they whispered amongst themselves.

Baron Xian had a pleasant smile on his face as he gazed at Fairy Yu, seemingly sincere and composed. Unbeknownst to him, Fairy Yu had only spared him but a single glance before her eyes found themselves drawn elsewhere, to someone else. As soon as she saw the flock of sultry, flirtatious women by Fang Chen’s side, anger flashed in her eyes. Why did Fang Chen come to the Jade Immortal Boat without informing her?

Aggrieved, she marched toward his table.

Seeing Fairy Yu heading in his direction, Baron Xian thought that she was approaching him. When she got close, he stood up, smiled, and raised his cup for a toast, greeting, "Fairy Yu—"

She brushed past him without so much as a glance, causing the once bubbly man to blank, coming to a halt mid sentence. She even ignored Ye Qinghe, who was a well-known regular in the place.

Everyone was shocked.

Madam Liu, initially smiling, froze up. She looked at Fairy Yu in disbelief and couldn’t help but curse under her breath, "What is this girl up to this time?"

Finally, Fairy Yu reached Fang Chen’s table. When Huangfu Jie, Yuan Zhuang, and the others saw her, they exchanged astonished glances. The women at the table were also at a loss for what to do and subconsciously stood up from their seats.

"Why didn’t you tell me that you were coming, my lord?" Fairy Yu said, laughed lightly, and squeezed into the seat, right beside Fang Chen.

Fang Chen couldn't help but laugh. "I wasn't the one who made the bid, you know."

He knew she was angry, but so what? He couldn’t be less bothered about what she felt right now.

"My lord?!" The guests looked at Fang Chen, then many of them recognized him, causing them to jerk from the seats with surprised gasps. On the other boats, guests craned their necks to get a better view, and once they recognized him, they started excitedly explaining to those around them who Fang Chen was.

No wonder Fairy Yu ignored the envoy from Longdu. There was an even more prominent and influential figure on the Jade Immortal Boat!

Recognizing Fang Chen, Baron Xian's face darkened. Ye Qinghe and the others were, on the other hand, skeptical; Fang Chen had never been one to visit such places. Why else did they come here of all places just to talk about him behind his back! But not only was he here today, he also brought many people with him! Among them was the Seven Profound Blade, Huangfu Jie; the Windy Cloud Swordsman, Xu Ge; and several officials from the Grand Brilliance Bureau.

Ye Qinghe couldn't help but feel suspicious. What is he planning to do?

“I can choose to drink with whoever I want to, and since you’re here today, my lord, I’ll stay with you. No amount of taels could compare with you.” Fairy Yu smiled as she poured wine for Fang Chen. When the other women at the table realized who the man who had been sitting with them at the table the whole time was, joy and excitement blossomed on their faces.

Not only did they have the good fortune of sharing a table and a drink with the Divine General, but they had also flirted with him! That was something to boast about for years!

Baron Xian’s face grew even darker. He glanced faintly at Ye Qinghe and said, "I am getting tired. I’ll be taking my leave first."

Ye Qinghe was shocked. If Baron Xian were to leave right now on such an unhappy note, then that meant without a doubt that the negotiations between the two empires would collapse. Since he was tasked with entertaining him, he would undoubtedly bear the responsibility. Not to mention the fact that he would disappoint the crown prince this way!

Ye Qinghe quickly grabbed the baron, who was standing up to leave, and tried his best to console him.

He then beckoned for his people to get up with him. They then walked up to Fang Chen’s table.

He said in a low voice, "Fang Chen, I have to entertain Baron Xian today. You are not welcome here, please leave!"

He believed that as long as Fang Chen left, Fairy Yu would accompany Baron Xian to a drink.

Fang Chen smiled lightly. "You can entertain him there, and I can have my fun here. What does me being here have anything to do with you? Why do you want to drive me away? What kind of reasoning is this?”

A cold light flashed in Ye Qinghe's eyes. "You know very well what I mean!"

Wasn’t Fang Chen aware of the negotiations between Grand Xia and Longdu?!

Ye Qinghe looked at Fairy Yu and said with a heavy voice, "Fairy Yu, you know what you need to do—for the sake of the greater good."

She snubbed him, and instead fed Fang Chen a glistening, translucent grape. "My lord, eat some grapes, I’ve peeled them for you,” she said.

Seeing that, the guests were both envious and jealous; they had never seen her treat anyone like this before.

"Hehehe..." Baron Xian suddenly chuckled darkly. "Even a lowly woman from Grand Xia dares to publicly humiliate me. It seems that your Grand Xia is truly beyond redemption. In that case, I will send your Divine General Fang to the Yellow Springs today!"

Boom!

The walls of the boat suddenly burst, and—to the confusion of those onboard—more than ten figures rushed into the boat’s hall, surrounding Fang Chen and the others.

As this happened, a fierce fire came to life on the other boats, engulfing them in its blaze. Following that, the cries and screams of many people suddenly filled the space above the river, and guests began jumping down into the river to escape the fire. At that moment, no one cared about the possibility of drowning.

Ye Qinghe was bewildered, and he yelled, "What’s the meaning of this, Baron Xian?"

All the guests on the Jade Immortal Boat also stood up in astonishment.

Baron Xian didn’t say anything and only let out a cold laugh.

The aura of the ten figures soared, and thick strands of internal qi came out from their bodies, surrounding them.

Their aura was stronger than Xu Ge's, and it even seemed to reach the level of Huangfu Jie. These ten individuals were all peak martial artists at the Qi Manipulation Stage! At that point, no matter how clueless Ye Qing was, he understood that Baron Xian came prepared. He could tell that the baron’s goal was to kill Fang Chen. Why would he otherwise dispatch more than ten peak martial artists at the Qi Manipulation Stage?

"But if there are no martial artists in the Qi Core Stage—" Just as Ye Qinghe had this thought, Fang Chen’s words cut his train of thought short.

“Marquis Xian Yu, it doesn’t look like you’ve advanced to the Qi Core Stage only recently.”

Mar...Marquis?! Wasn't the person in front of him Baron Xian? Why did Fang Chen address him as Marquis Xian Yu? That was the most prominent marquis in Longdu in recent years, and there was a chance that he would ascend to the rank of grand duke due to the vast territories under his command!

When Baron Xian heard that, his expression changed. Then, he returned to his seat and flashed Fang Chen a smile that didn’t seem like a smile. "It seems the rumors are true. The fact that you could deduce my identity is praiseworthy. But I wonder how that would be of any help to you today.”

The screams from the nearby boats continued. Some of the baron’s people were setting more of the boats on fire, while the others chased the guests, killing them. Screams were coming from the shore. The hundreds of Longdu calvary had begun a massacre!

Watching this scene from a distance, everyone couldn't help but gasp in shock. Did the world go crazy?
