Chapter 50: The One with No Face
Head Investigator Zhao’s expression shifted. Now that the other side had brought up the law, things became complicated. The chief pacifier definitely had the authority to apprehend anyone he deemed a criminal. Even if he didn’t provide any evidence, their actions would still be considered justifiable. After all, the Valiant Saber Guards operated independently outside the six ministries. They were directly under the emperor's jurisdiction.
Now that everyone had fallen silent, Chief Pacifier Liu smiled faintly. "Divine General Fang, why not leave the criminal with us? You can leave out of your own accord, with dignity, and avoid kicking up a huge fuss. That way, we wouldn’t have to embarrass anyone today.”
"You're wrong. If anyone’s going to be embarrassed, it’s only going to be you." Fang Chen laughed softly. He then appeared in front of Chief Pacifier Liu the next moment.
A resounding slap landed on Chief Pacifier Liu’s face, sending him flying several feet away. The Valiant Saber Guards around him failed to react in time. By the time they noticed what had happened, it was too late. Chief Pacifier Liu fell face flat on the floor. When he immediately stirred himself back up, everyone saw his cheek start visibly swelling at an alarming speed.
"He’s too fast!" Those standing around were shocked, and the last trace of doubt they had in their hearts was finally dispelled; Fang Chen had indeed restored his cultivation!
Those from the Grand Brilliance Bureau secretly cheered at the sight! That was refreshing!
"How dare you lay your hands on me?! Fang Chen, are you trying to start a rebellion?" Chief Pacifier Liu covered his face while glaring at Fang Chen. Resentment and embarrassment flashed in his eyes.
"Over the years, I’ve beaten many people with positions much higher than yours. Yet, they never dared to accuse me of staging rebelling,” Fang Chen said. "Chief Pacifier Liu, do your job properly, and don't provoke me again. Next time, this won't end with just a light slap."
"Fang Chen, do you think you can do whatever you want in Grand Xia?! Even if your past achievements were great, the battle at Three World Mountain five years ago left your reputation in tatters!" Chief Pacifier Liu yelled with rage. "His Majesty has spared your life! But instead of reflecting on your mistakes, you came to meddle in the affairs of the Valiant Saber Guards! Have you forgotten His Majesty’s orders?"
"I've always kept His Majesty's words in mind." Fang Chen turned slightly and clasped his fist in the direction of the imperial palace, revealing a smile. He then turned back to “But... who do you think you are? Do you wish to suppress me by bringing up His Majesty? I'm afraid you lack the qualifications to do so."
Chief Pacifier Liu was left speechless, and overwhelmed with emotion, he couldn’t even begin to form a coherent response to Fang Chen’s words, the words stuck in his throat.
Staring into those grayish-white eyes of his, no one dared to treat him as a blind man.
Divine General Fang had been silent for five years, but the imposing aura around him hadn’t diminished in the least. In fact, it was stronger than ever. Niu Jue, who was the closest to him, felt it better than anyone else.
If Fang Chen gave off the feeling of an insurmountable mountain back then, he had now become an endless sea. It was calm on the surface, but tyrannical power was hidden deep within. His aura caused those close to him to feel trapped!
"Haha.” A burst of hearty laughter rang through the building, and a middle-aged man clad in a robe embroidered in pythons walked over with a group of guards around him. ”I didn't expect Divine General Fang to visit our guard post today. I apologize for my subordinates’ lack of etiquette, and I hope you can forgive me for coming late.”
The middle-aged man walked with a strong, imposing stride. His temples swelled, and his entire being seemed to be enveloped in a faint aura. He was a martial artist in the Qi Manipulation Stage, a formidable one, at that!
He was the commanding officer of the Valiant Saber Guards in the Inner City, Xiao Shence!
"We pay our respects to the commander!" The Valiant Saber Guards saluted immediately. They were relieved. With him present, the situation would finally fall under their control. Otherwise, they were bound to suffer embarrassment.
On the other hand, those from the Grand Brilliance Bureau felt their expressions changing slightly, with the exception of Head Investigator Zhao, who remained calm. Even when Xiao Shence arrived, he didn’t falter.
"Brother Xiao, you're being too polite," Fang Chen said.
Everyone was surprised. Fang Chen actually knew Xiao Shence? In Chief Pacifier Liu's eyes, there should be no connection between Xiao Shence and Fang Chen given their respective backgrounds!

"The Valiant Saber Guards shoulder great responsibilities. As their commanding officer, I’m sure you’re busy. I understand where you’re coming from," said Fang Chen with a faint smile.
"That’s good, that’s good...” Xiao Shence nodded repeatedly. Turning to Chief Pacifier Liu, his gaze lingered for a second before his eyes drifted toward Yuan Zhuang, and he sighed. He then addressed Fang Chen again. “Brother Fang, I know a little of what is going on, but Chief Pacifier Liu did go through the proper procedures and followed the rules. That’s why, if you bring him away, you’ll be really making things difficult for me. If this were to spread, how will the people view the Valiant Saber Guards? I won’t be able to give His Majesty a proper explanation, either.”
A cold light flashed in Chief Pacifier Liu’s eyes. The atmosphere in the building suddenly changed, and the members of the Grand Brilliance Bureau tensed up. It seemed as though Xiao Shence didn’t intend to let Yuan Zhuang go.
Yuan Yu looked a bit nervous. Yuan Zhuang was severely injured, and he could hardly speak. If they couldn’t bring him away, it wouldn’t be long before he was dead!
"About this... I have also considered this matter thoroughly on your behalf." Fang Chen nodded slightly.

"I intended to do so, but I was delayed by some matters...” Chief Pacifier Liu hastily spoke up.
"Who the hell are you to open your mouth in front of me? Scram!” The fifth prince glanced at Chief Pacifier Liu dismissively.
Chief Pacifier Liu’s expression flickered unsteadily. He was humiliated multiple times since they had appeared, and the worst part was, he couldn’t speak up for himself!
Xiao Shence chuckled. "Chief Pacifier Liu did indeed overlook some things, but our arrest process didn’t violate any laws, so..."
"Is that so? Well, I’ll be taking Yuan Zhaung with me. Someone had accused him of bribery, and we were about to arrest him a few months ago. Here, take a look for yourself.” Prince Wu tossed a case file to Xiao Shence. “These are documents from my Grand Brilliance Bureau. They are completely normal and in line with law as well. We were just slightly delayed. We didn’t expect that you guys would jump at the chance to arrest him first.
“Anyway, have you finished reading? Our Grand Brilliance Bureau had a reason to arrest him much earlier than you guys. I guess you won’t have any problems with us taking him away now.” After speaking, he yelled at Head Investigator Zhao, "Why aren’t you bringing him away?!”
"Yes, Chief!” Head Investigator Zhao made a gesture and ordered his subordinates to help Yuan Zhuang off Xu Ge. They took him away and then left in a dignified manner.
"How about it? Have you read the case file? Do you understand what’s going on now?" The fifth prince smiled at Xiao Shence.
"It seems that there was indeed a misunderstanding." Xiao Shence smiled faintly and returned the case file to the fifth prince.

At that time, my brother, the emperor, might just behead you, alright?” The fifth prince chuckled lightly before turning to Fang Chen. “Fang Chen, shall we leave?”
"Please." Fang Chen nodded with a smile as they walked away, side by side. Everyone could see that they were walking shoulder to shoulder.
Chief Pacifier Liu's face turned pale. He didn't expect Yuan Zhuang to be taken away so easily. As they left, Xiao Shence didn’t say a word. He watched them leave in silence.
When they were finally out of sight, he harrumphed coldly at Chief Pacifier Liu. "In the future, do things more thoroughly. I don’t want a repeat of what happened today. Look for me later, I wish to know why you arrested Yuan Zhuang...”
"Yes..." Chief Pacifier Liu replied in a low voice.
