Chapter 49: If Anyone Dares To Stand in Your Way, Kill Them!
Fang Chen and his group entered the station, immediately attracting various curious gazes. These gazes were filled with astonishment, shock, curiosity, and wariness.
Niu Jue led the way and brought everyone to the main hall. He promptly instructed his subordinates to check the case files to see if an investigator of the Grand Brilliance Bureau, by the name of Yuan Zhuang, had been apprehended in the past few days.
"We will find out shortly if Lord Yuan is here," Niu Jue said respectfully in front of Fang Chen.
"Thank you, Commander Niu," Fang Chen replied with a faint smile.
Behind them, Yuan Yu grew anxious by the second. She was afraid that Yuan Zhuang wouldn’t be here. If even both Fang Chen and Head Investigator Zhao couldn't find him, his fate would truly become uncertain.
After a moment, a captain rushed in and bowed respectfully. "Commander Niu, I've checked the case files. There’s no record of Yuan Zhuang’s arrest.”
"How is that possible..." Yuan Yu's face turned pale.
"This..." Niu Jue looked at Fang Chen with a wry smile. "Divine General Fang, could there be a misunderstanding? He might not actually be here..."
"Bring us to the prison you guys built in the station,” Fang Chen said
Niu Jue started to hesitate. Fang Chen wasn’t a member of the Valiant Saber Guards, and according to the rules, he lacked the authority to enter the private prison. Thinking it over for a moment, Niu Jue bit his lips and said, "Divine General Fang, you and Head Investigator Zhao are the only ones who will be allowed to enter. Please understand that we have to follow the regulations.”
"I understand." Fang Chen nodded with a smile.
With that, Niu Jue led the way to the prison. As they approached the gate, a cold shout came from nearby. "Commander Niu, what are you doing?"
A young man approached with a group of captains and commanders trailing behind. When two of the captains noticed Fang Chen, their expressions changed drastically.
Niu Jue quickly introduced both parties. "Chief Pacifier Liu, allow me to introduce you. This is Divine General Fang,” He turned to Fang Chen, by his side, “Divine General Fang, this is Chief Pacifier Liu."
Chief Pacifier Liu glanced at Fang Chen indifferently. "Divine General Fang, you've graced us with your presence today. What brings you here?"
"I came looking for someone," Fang Chen replied.
"Searching for someone in our station? That’s not appropriate, is it now?” Chief Pacifier Liu spoke calmly before turning to Niu Jue. He snorted angrily. "A dignified commander of the Valiant Saber Guards dares to bring outsiders to our private prison... How dare you! If the commanding officer catches wind of this, you’ll be stripped of your post!”
Niu Jue was stunned for a moment, and rage quickly filled his heart as his expression sank instantly. "Chief Liu, Divine General Fang is looking for someone, and I wouldn’t dare reject his request. What’s the big deal? Why would he not possess the qualifications to check out the private prison?”
"Rules are rules. As for his status... Heh. Sorry to say this, but I recall His Majesty mentioning that Divine General Fang is not allowed to enter the court again or muster troops anymore. In other words, he is nothing more than an ordinary civilian now. What status are we talking about here?” Chief Pacifier Liu spoke coolly.
Everyone present had varying expressions. While what was said held some truth, it was not easy to erase the reputation and numerous accomplishments Fang Chen had amassed over the years. With his cultivation restored and the recent incident at the Qingsong Superior Academy, he had struck fear into the hearts of many. It wasn’t his status that made him frightening, but something else!
A slight smile appeared on Fang Chen’s face, and he said, "Chief Pacifier Liu, are you saying you won’t allow me entry?"
Chief Pacifier Liu nodded lightly. "Everything I do is in accordance with the rules of the Valiant Saber Guards. I hope you understand."
"I won't go in, then. All you have to do is bring out our guy," Fang Chen said.
"Who are you talking about?” Chief Pacifier Liu replied with a puzzled look.
"I’m talking about Yuan Zhuang, the investigator of the Grand Brilliance Bureau. You had him captured and interrogated here. Looks like you have a bit of a bad memory..." Fang Chen gestured toward the two captains by his side. "Even if you don’t remember, they should. After all, they were in charge of torturing him.”
With his revelation, Head Investigator Zhao and the rest turned furious. They glared daggers at the two captains. As members of the Grand Brilliance Bureau, they were pretty familiar with the Valiant Saber Guard’s methods of torture. If Yuan Zhuang was truly interrogated by them, things surely wouldn’t be looking too good for him!
The captains were stunned, and their faces turned as white as sheets of paper. They couldn’t understand how Fang Chen knew of their actions! He even knew that they were the ones who were in charge of interrogating him!
Niu Jue finally understood that Fang Chen didn’t coincidentally meet the people from the Grand Brilliance Bureau and offered to help them find Yuan Zhuang. He definitely came here from the start to find him himself! He knew how Fang Chen handled his own matters. If he claimed that one of his men was here, then that was most likely true.
The only question that perplexed him was why would Chief Pacifier Liu capture Yuan Zhuang. That was an investigator of the Grand Brilliance Bureau they were talking about. Also, why was he keeping it a secret?! Not even he was aware of it. Could there be more to this than meets the eye?
"Divine General Fang, words must not be spoken carelessly," Chief Pacifier Liu spoke calmly.
Fang Chen turned to Xu Ge. "Xu Ge, go bring him out. If anyone dares to stand in your way, kill them. I’ll personally handle the fallout with His Majesty.”
"Yes." Xu Ge nodded and walked toward the gate of the private prison. None of the guards nearby dared to intervene. They knew who he was... He was the Windy Cloud Swordsman, one of the ten strongest martial artists in the Qi Detonation Stage in the capital!
They would be hard pressed to find someone in the Valiant Saber Guards at the same level as him. Moreover, those at that level far outranked Chief Pacifier Liu. There were no such people in the station at all.
"Stop him!" Chief Pacifier Liu yelled in rage. However, his subordinates merely exchanged glances before lowering their heads in fright. Their faces were pale. They didn’t dare mess around before someone like Fang Chen.
Even if they were slain by Xu Ge, their deaths wouldn’t affect Fang Chen in the slightest! They would basically be throwing their lives away!
Seeing that, Chief Pacifier blew his top, and he nearly vomited a mouthful of blood. Why did they nurture troops in the first place?! Wasn’t it for them to use them in critical situations! Now, when the shit had hit the fan, they became so scared they didn’t even dare utter a single peep!
After Xu Ge entered, an awkward confrontation ensued as both sides stared at each other without moving a single muscle. After the time it took to drink a cup of tea, Xu Ge returned with a blood soaked and limping Yuan Zhuang.
Seeing him, tears welled up in Yuan Yu’s eyes. He was in an extremely sorry state. Every part of his body, with the exception of his face, was covered in injuries. Even his fingers were bloodied, and his nails had long been pulled off.
"You guys went too far!” The other investigators of the Grand Brilliance Bureau trembled with rage.
There were several members of the Valiant Saber Guards who seemed confused. They didn’t appear to know anything about this. Only Chief Pacifier Liu and his most trusted subordinates knew. But even after he had been brought out, they remained expressionless.
Niu Jue was slightly taken aback when Yuan Zhuang appeared, and his expression gradually darkened.
Head Investigator Zhao, who had been silent all along, spoke slowly. "Chief Pacifier Liu, I demand an explanation."
"Explanation? Why do we need to give you an explanation? This person has been deemed a criminal by us. If you take him away without authorization, we’ll consider this a prison break, and all of you will be executed,” Chief Pacifier Liu said slowly, his gaze darkening as he looked at Fang Chen. "Divine General Fang, I believe you know the rules. Now, I hope you won’t break them.”
