Chapter 240 - Sword God, Gu Baiyi

"Demons, retreat to the Demon Continent, preserve our lineage..." This final, somber command echoed across the sky.

Some demons, learning of the death of the four Demon Emperors and the 108 Demon Saints, and with Forbidden Fate out of control, had already lost their will to fight and wished to leave. Others, driven by hatred and faith in Forbidden Fate, believed he would lead the Demon Continent to conquer the Heavenly Realm and rule the Divine Continent.

But as Forbidden Fate vanished between heaven and earth, their faith crumbled, and their spirit dissipated! And the gate of the Heavenly Realm, the Primordial Array, remained impregnable...

The most awe-inspiring and fearful figure for them was Yun Xiao! Standing above the burnt remnants of the flesh mountain, sword in hand, his white robes fluttering, he was a nightmare incarnate to the demons.

"Yun Xiao!!" Inside the Heavenly Realm, tens of millions witnessed this scene, erupting into the most fervent cheers in history.

"We didn’t even need Her Highness to take action. Nor did we even need the Primordial Array!"

Already confident, and now victorious like this, the centuries of human frustration were purged in a single moment!

The War of Immortals in the Heavenly Realm had just ended last night, and now, with the slaying of the five Demon Emperors by day, the victory of the humans of the Divine Continent was secured!

Events in mere hours changed the history of the humans of the Divine Continent!

Unaware of the absence of the Divine Dawn Empress, the inaccessibility of the Primordial Array, they could not fathom how Yun Xiao had maneuvered through these challenges to carve out this moment of unparalleled glory!

But they still revered Yun Xiao! A sword prodigy who had been in the Heavenly Realm for just a few days, the husband of the Divine Dawn Empress! Could you believe it? It hadn't even been a month since he started his celestial ascent in the Azure Spirit Sect.

The uproar in the Heavenly Realm would surely again crush the demoralized demon forces! Those demons stood stunned, possessing the strength of a legion. Yet, they seemed to have lost their souls, standing bewildered.

"Continue the bloodbath in the Heavenly Realm?"

"Our elite forces are intact. If we press on, we can break through the gate of the Heavenly Realm and slaughter the humans! A couple of strong ones can't stop us!"

"But there's the threat of the Primordial Array and the other four Immortal Empires! Dragging this out, neither humans nor demons will end well."

"The Demon Emperor commanded us to return to the Demon Continent, to preserve our lineage..."

The already chaotic demon army was now even more disordered! And at this moment, the mountain of flesh completely vanished, leaving nothing but dense smoke in the sky.

Suddenly, a voice whispered to the strongest demons, just below the Demon Saints.

"I am not so easily defeated; merely gravely weakened and in need of rest. Return to the Demon Continent at once, and await the day of our resurgence!" This voice was no longer a mix of countless demonic tones, but had become pure and lonely, like the original Forbidden Fate!

Hearing this, the dull eyes of the demons finally lit up. There was still a chance for the Demon Continent!

"Retreat!!" It started with them, the message trickling down layer by layer.

BUZZ! As a portion of the demon cloud detached from the group, heading back towards the Demon Continent, the resolve of the demon army crumbled again.

"Admit defeat! Regroup and rise again!"

"This battle isn't over yet!"

The demons howled, however frustrated and pained, they had to accept this reality.

A great battle unfinished, the Demon Continent's strongest and brightest all slain, leaving only the mightiest demon army, now bereft of its fighting spirit. Yun Xiao actually wanted to pursue and annihilate them! But, reality wouldn't allow it.

The Heavenly Realm had only 30 million combat-ready cultivators, half of whom weren't up to par. How could they venture out for a skirmish?

The fate of the Violet Sky Immortal Army was a cautionary tale. And for the four Immortal Empires to mobilize, it would take at least a day!

The demon army's retreat in defeat was already the best outcome for the beings of the Heavenly Realm.

As for the future... As long as Yun Xiao had enough time, what was there to fear about the future? He stood in the wind, watching the demon army in disarray, retreating in disheveled defeat, his gaze stern and deadly.

"You're saying that corpse demon isn't dead?" Yun Xiao frowned.

"Indeed, it's tough to kill. As long as the resentment persists, it lives. But, reduced to this state, it's unlikely to cause trouble any time soon," Blue Star explained.

"The problem is, it saw me merge with my body double. If it goes around blabbering, this double of mine becomes useless," Yun Xiao said.

"There's no helping it! But who would it talk to, really? The devils? With their princess in your grasp, whatever it says is futile. As for the Eternal Sword Prison, well, that depends." Blue Star chuckled.

"With Forbidden Fate temporarily dealt with, the people of the Heavenly Realm and the Divine Continent can breathe easy for now. With Divine Dawn absent, I must fulfill her mission. Next, I'll reorganize the Six Immortal Empires of the Divine Continent, uniting the people as one. This way, even in terms of military strength, the Divine Continent won't fear the Demon Continent."

The first step was to eliminate the false demons in the Divine Continent! Second was the complete eradication of demon nests like the Northern Wastelands and the Great Wasteland!

"With Violet Sky having no emperor, and the other four Immortal Empires inclined to follow Divine Dawn's path, we could establish a new nation with the Heavenly Realm as its capital, reviving the ancient Immortal Empire..."

These were all pressing matters. Why couldn't the four Immortal Empires deploy their troops? Too many demon spies within! The traitors had to be eradicated for the Divine Continent's future!

"Wait, you, a flying Sword Immortal, are going back to your old job as an Emperor?" Blue Star asked, dumbfounded.

Yun Xiao shook his head and smiled. "You're overthinking it. I'll leave it to Divine Dawn's father; I just need to point them in the right direction."

If Yun Xiao had to handle everything himself, he'd be overwhelmed. His rebirth and cultivation had changed him; he was no longer suited for such tasks.

"Forbidden Fate isn't dead yet! The threat of the Demon Continent remains! Right now, I have more pressing matters..."

Yun Xiao gazed in the direction of the retreating demon army, raising his Sword Soul, his voice cold, "With the power of the Heaven Burial Sword Soul, I must claim the land of the Demon Continent!"

"The Endless Netherworld and the Eternal Sword Prison are variables. They might pose resistance," Blue Star pointed out.

"The Endless Netherworld is uncertain, but the Eternal Sword Prison is likely to be an obstacle," Yun Xiao looked towards the Heavenly Realm, a slight smirk on his lips, "He's coming!"

"Showing up only after the fight, that's never a good sign," Blue Star cackled. No sooner had the words left his mouth than a massive white sword light pierced the sky, transforming into a middle-aged man in white, appearing before Yun Xiao! He wore a gentle smile, exuded an air of a sage, quite detached from worldly concerns.

"May I ask who the elder is?" Yun Xiao asked respectfully.

"Eternal Sword Prison, Sword God Gu Baiyi," the man in white replied with an easy smile, eyeing the Sword Soul in Yun Xiao's hand. "I'm quite familiar with those four Sword Rings on it."

"Oh?" Yun Xiao lifted the Heaven Burial Sword Soul, saying cheerfully, "A girl tried to kill me out of the blue. I had no choice but to retaliate and took her Sword Rings. She wouldn't happen to be your daughter, would she?"

"Not a daughter, merely a disciple," Gu Baiyi clarified.

Yun Xiao sighed in relief. "Well, that's a relief!"

"A relief?" Gu Baiyi chuckled.

"Indeed," Yun Xiao affirmed earnestly.

"Why so?"

"Because I can take her place as your disciple. By replacing one waste with a genius, you won't have suffered the loss of a disciple."
