Chapter 47: The Effects Of Protein
"How much will it be?!" The guy at the front asked in anticipation.
Jim turned around with the bottle and put his hand under it showing it off before saying, "During your free trial these will only cost you 20$ per shake. Of course, this may sound like a lot for just one drink at a face value but this does increase your strength after all." Jims said with an award-winning salesmen pitch.
To Kaden the longer that Jim kept talking the longer that he thought something was wrong. If the shake had been much more expensive at least in the thousands then he would have believed it more but a shake that will increase your power so much each time you drink it for just 20$? That's absurd if you consider if someone like "Terror" were to drink this shake all the time then their power would just constantly grow and then other large companies or mafias they would kill for something like this. So the question now is, what makes this shake so special?
The man at the front finally handed over his 20$ for his shake but before he went away he had a question that a few others in the line had, "Can we buy a bunch of these at once?" The guy asked with hopefulness.
Jim seemed to know that this question was coming because he answered swiftly and effectively, "Sorry but we have a limited amount of these each day because they're hand made so we can only sell one per person. What you can do though is come here each day and get yourself one!" Jim said as he handed the man his one protein shake.
With this question answered there wasn't a lot left for the others to do besides buy the protein shake and that's what they did. After 10 minutes everyone in the room had one in their hand including Kaden but he wasn't going to drink it. He called it his 'Insurance' jar.
Some people couldn't help themselves and began drinking it immediately after it entered their hands which resulted in a small commotion of others also drinking theirs. It seemed more like a race to power rather than a small helpful tool but Kaden wanted to observe nonetheless. At first, nothing happened after the people drank it except that a few commented on the great taste that it had. They compared it to a sugary drink or some sort of mix that could be added to water but after a few minutes, there was a sudden reaction by everyone there.
Everyone in the room dropped on the floor and began convulsing wildly like a demon was trying to possess their body or a live exorcism. Kaden's immediate thought was to run and leave but Jim was nearby and said something that confused him, "Don't worry they will only hurt for a few minutes, and then they will be alright. The shake is changing forcibly destroying their muscles and replacing them with stronger and more powerful ones."
Kaden was still not convinced on the matter which was proven by the frown on his face but since he didn't try and make him stay quiet or drink the shake himself Kaden just waited there to gain more information on how the shake works.
The people were convulsing for a few moments but that's when the screams started kicking in. From the depths of their soul, loud screams and yells erupted from people's mouths making Kaden feel less than pleasant but the sound was soon drowned out from his ears which confused Kaden but when he looked over at Jim and realized the guy from before was there and he had cast his class ability onto Kaden. It seemed to be an ability that dealt with sound but he didn't know much more than that. Even though he could no longer hear the screams they still lingered in his brain making him even more afraid of what this drink was actually made of.
Now that the sounds of their screams were drowned out Kaden watched the people roll around in pain on the ground for a few minutes longer while observing the other people that were in the gym working out or practicing their different methods of fighting. It seems to them this was a normal sight to see as no one was panicking or trying to help the people and in addition to that there was even a person that finished their workout and bought a shake while the people beside him were writhing in pain.
The only difference however was that when the man drank his shake he didn't fall to the ground and start screaming in pain. Instead, Kaden could visibly see his veins begin bulging explosively before calming down. Once the veins calmed down there was a difference in the person's muscle making it look stronger and more powerful than before which surprised Kaden.
'Maybe this happens only when you take it for the first time.' Kaden thought.
After another few minutes, the people stopped rolling around in pain and Kaden could feel the ability being lifted off of his ears. One by one the people began standing up with blank expressions on their faces and no one said anything until everyone had stood up and were awake again.
"That was amazing!" One guy exclaimed while flexing his bicep back and forth feeling the apparent new strength within him.
Many others said the same thing about how amazing what they just drank was despite them screaming in pain just minutes ago.
'What the heck is wrong with these people?' Kaden thought to himself as he looked at them strangely.
The people then began swarming Jim asking him more questions about everything to do with the shake but Kaden decided it was about time for him to leave for today. He then left the facility and began walking his way home with his protein shake still in his possession.
