Chapter 142: Film Wrap Party

Translator: EndlessFantasy Translation Editor: EndlessFantasy Translation

On the day the filming wrapped, Xia Xin sent Chen Li a text inviting him to the set. She had two motives: one, to support his work, and two, to take the opportunity to ask him what he’d found out about Jing Mo.

True to his word, Chen Li arrived, bringing with him a bouquet of lilies for Xia Xin.

Clutching the flowers, Xia Xin teased Chen Li, “You have a unique way of giving flowers. Why lilies?”

A little shy, Chen Li replied, “I think you’re as pure as a lily, so I chose this flower for you. If you don’t like it, I can always pick something else.”

“I love them,” Xia Xin said with a smile. “Thank you for the flowers.”

After the wrap-up scenes were shot, MO Shu initially wanted to have a chat with Xia Xin. But by the time he had finished with the reporters and went to look for her, she had already left the set with Chen Li.

As they stepped out of the set, Xia Xin wasted no time and asked, “You mentioned last time you found out something about Jing Mo. What is it?”

Curiosity piqued, Chen Li questioned, “What is your relationship with Jing MO? Why are you so interested in him? Could it be that you’re actually in love with him but settling for a relationship with MO Shu due to circumstances?”

Xia Xin chose not to answer, not because she didn’t trust Chen Li but because the matter involved MO Shu as well.

“So, are you going to tell me?” Xia Xin urged. “I’m just curious.”

Chen Li didn’t press on. Instead, he furrowed his brow and said, “Actually, I didn’t find anything. Jing MO is a mysterious figure in the entertainment circle. Even with my capabilities, I couldn’t uncover any details. My previous comments were a ruse—why would information on Jing MO be worth only a hundred thousand? I’m not that naive.’

Xia Xin felt a wave of disappointment wash over her, exhaling a long sigh. “But,” Chen Li continued. “I did hear something minor.”

Interest reignited, Xia Xin prompted, “Why do you always leave your sentences hanging? What did you find out?”

“I heard Jing MO has some underworld connections. Nobody dares to mess with him. Moreover, his family seems to hold some kind of power—they’re influential and wealthy,” Chen Li revealed.

This was the first time Xia Xin had heard such things about Jing Mo. She never asked about his family, even when they were younger and Jing MO lived alone near her school.

Back then, Xia Xin was too engrossed in how good-looking he was and how well he cooked to ponder over anything else.

As their conversation reached its natural conclusion, MO Shu called Xia Xin. The director had arranged a wrap party for the evening at a certain hotel and had texted her the address. He asked her to be there by 7:30.

Noticing that the crew had dispersed, everyone had gone to the hotel. Xia Xin thought of not going to the party. After all, she wasn’t close with anyone in the event.

“You should go,” Chen Li advised her before she could decline.

“Why?” she inquired, puzzled.

“You need to build relationships within the industry,” Chen Li reasoned. “That way, you’ll be top of mind for future roles.”

It made sense. So, Xia Xin decided to head for the hotel.

“Why waste money on a taxi? Let me take you,” Chen Li offered, intercepting her.

“You have a car?” Xia Xin asked in astonishment.

Puffing out his chest confidently, Chen Li led her to the parking lot. They stopped before a sleek motorcycle, and Xia Xin’s eyes widened in awe.

Xia Xin had already imagined the wind blowing through her hair, offering her a sense of liberation, as they sped on the highway. “I didn’t know you could ride something this cool,” she exclaimed.

Scratching his head, Chen Li patted Xia Xin’s shoulder and pointed to a small electric scooter parked next to some dirt bikes. He said, “Actually, it’s this one.”

Xia Xin’s fantasies came crashing down, but she obediently took her seat on the scooter.

It turned out to be a blessing in disguise. The roads were congested due to rush hour, but the scooter weaved through the traffic effortlessly. They were the first to arrive at the hotel.

Soon after, MO Shu joined them. “How did you get here so quickly?” he marveled.

With a slap on Chen Li’s shoulder, who was standing beside her, Xia Xin exclaimed, “Scooters are fast!”

Mission accomplished, Chen Li strutted off, leaving the set with his head held high..
