Chapter 280: The Breakup Between Father And Son

Translator: Atlas Studios Editor: Atlas Studios

In the official residence in the capital, Jin Tao sat alone in the empty living room, emanating a gloomy and cold aura.

News from the prison and Chen Jia came separately. Jin Tao’s deployments in S City had all failed. Qiu Tong and Jin Yang were very vigilant. He held a glass and gently rubbed the rim with his finger, sensing that things had become a little tricky.

Jin Tao’s assistant lowered his head and stood in front of him. He said in a pained tone, “Sir, the spy in the prison just committed suicide.”

“It’s said that he killed himself in Jin Yang’s basement while the guards were changing shifts. He didn’t say anything about us.”

Jin Tao nodded indifferently. There was no pity in his tone as he instructed, “Send some money to his family.”

The assistant opened his mouth a few times but swallowed his words in the end.

Jin Tao could tell that there was something on his assistant’s mind. He placed the glass on the table and stood up to pat his shoulder.

“We have to look at the big picture. From the day he went to the prison to be a spy, he knew that his final fate was likely to be death. If you go soft, you will lose! You will be stepped on by your opponent!”

“Qiu Tong and Jin Yang’s relationship is progressing quickly. They’re cooperating well and will definitely be an obstacle to us in the near future.”

“Send more men to S City and get rid of Qiu Tong as soon as possible. Remember to hide your identity and not let Jin Yang find out anything! You can’t use our weapons or gear. Clear out anything that can point to your true identity before carrying out the mission!”

Jin Tao’s voice was cold as he instructed. The assistant adjusted his emotions and nodded, turning around to carry out his orders.

Meanwhile, Song Yan overheard their conversation and his pupils dilated.

Song Yan returned to the capital last night and he planned to stay a couple of nights before greeting Jin Tao. He didn’t expect to hear such a shocking plan.

Condensation from the cold beer in his hand dripped onto the living room floor…

Jin Tao suddenly looked over, his eyes filled with scrutiny and faint coldness.

Song Yan’s mind raced. He rubbed his hair and yawned. He waved at him lazily. “Dad.”

“Good evening. Long time no see.”

Song Yan walked casually towards the living room. He threw himself onto the sofa and gulped down his beer, reeking of alcohol.

Jin Tao narrowed his eyes and asked impatiently, “When did you return?”

Song Yan held up two fingers as his lips curled into a self-mocking smile. “You didn’t notice, right?”

“I’m already used to it. Since when did I exist in your eyes? I have to hide myself in case your blood pressure shoots up at the sight of me. I was just sneaking a drink and didn’t expect to be caught by you. Don’t worry, I promise I will be very quiet in the future.”

Jin Tao heard the sarcasm in his words, but he just asked about Jin Yang instead.

Song Yan gritted his teeth and sneered. He ruffled his hair and stood up abruptly. “Jin Yang, Jin Yang! You only think about him! I’m your son as well. When have you ever looked me in the eye?!”

“Oh, I almost forgot. Only the president can be your son, so I’m not worthy…”

Song Yan raised his hand and slapped his left cheek. He walked to Jin Tao and growled in disappointment and anger, “You chose Jin Yang over me since we were young, choosing the one most suitable for nurturing and management. So of course I was abandoned by you.”

“All these years, I’ve been neglected. Do you know what the high-ranking officials secretly say about me?”

“Mr. Jin Tao, I can ignore everything, but what exactly am I to you?”

When Song Yan saw that he was still silent, the frustration in his heart surged. He took two steps back and laughed wildly. “But what about now? Where is Jin Yang? He has gone beyond your control too! Isn’t that so?”

Smack!!

Jin Tao slapped Song Yan harshly. Song Yan held his stinging right cheek and looked at his so-called father in disbelief.

Jin Tao pointed at the door and scolded, “Get lost!”

Song Yan pressed his tongue against his teeth and wiped the blood from his thin lips. He grabbed his jacket from the back of the sofa and walked out.

In the cold night, he walked for a long distance before stopping. Song Yan looked back at the brightly lit villa and called his trusted aide. “Help me book a plane ticket to S City. The sooner, the better!”

At the villa, a steady breathing sound echoed in the room.

Qiu Tong suddenly opened her eyes. She pushed Jin Yang’s arm away and sat up, panting heavily.

Jin Yang switched on the night light with sleepy eyes. He saw Qiu Tong’s pale face covered in cold sweat and hugged her. “Why have you been having so many nightmares lately? I’ll get Shao An to bring a doctor to do a full body checkup for you. Do you want to take some calming medicine?”

Qiu Tong shook her head as she thought of the recurring nightmare that she had been having recently.

She held Jin Yang’s hand tightly and thought of the extremely realistic explosion in her dream. She couldn’t help pressing her head against his chest in panic.

Jin Yang sensed her fragility and coaxed her in a relaxed tone, “Dreams are the opposite of reality. Don’t be afraid!”
