Only the well-trained soldiers and some young scholars were able to keep running. The soldiers didn't fight the monster because regular weapons didn't work on it. Just being brave wasn't enough to beat the monster.
Being brave is great and all, but when you're up against something way stronger, bravery doesn't help much.
Gui Bin was lucky he was young and had been working out because otherwise, he would have fallen behind during this tough run.
"If I make it out of this alive," he thought, "I'm definitely going to start exercising."
He set up a flag in his mind.
“There is an exit in front. It’s the exit of the spaceship!”
As Gui Bin teetered on the brink of exhaustion, the hoarse shout of the major up ahead pierced the air, injecting a surge of energy into everyone. It pushed them beyond their human limits, and it was this breakthrough that the fear of death had triggered.
