Chapter 31: The Inevitable

Fein was currently on the carriage with Michael and Captain Gregory. The higher-ups assigned them to hunt a group of demons not far from the outskirts of the city.

He knew that there will gonna be intense fighting because they even Gregory had to come. Gregory mentioned that there are at least fifteen Rank C and Twenty Rank D on the group of demons that were invading.

“Fein, you will belong to the group that will fight those Rank D demons, considering you had the lowest rank on this team,” Gregory said.

Fein nodded at him as a response...

Considering that he was hiding his strength, no one knew that he was already Rank B now, including Kidd. After all, Fein didn’t have an ability like them and he only rely on techniques and his strong physique, which was the only thing he revealed so far.

The ability he has now is not suitable for combat. His abilities so far only focus on utility and they are Storage Space, Stats Improvement, Probe, Map, Skill Lottery... The thing is he can get 1 skill every month using the skill lottery function, which was not that bad. Because in his first draw he luckily got an A rank passive kill.

Rank: A

Type: Passive

Description: The longer the battle, the stronger am I! Every one minute in combat, the user’s strength, agility, and endurance will increase by 10% with no cap.

This skill is OP... His eyeball almost pops out of their sockets when he read the ridiculous effect of the skill. Though he need to buy time and drag the fight. The good thing is, the stronger he was, the stronger the boost it gave. The most outrageous of all is that it has no caps or upper limit. Considering that one hour has sixty minutes, it means that in every one hour of fight he will have a 600% boost in his all stats. And that’s a 6x boost in strength, speed, and his body’s toughness that will only continue to increase as the fight drags out.

Now that Fein had this skill, he finally had a decent edge against an opponent of the same level... The only thing that he lacks now is that he doesn’t have strong long-range skills. If he encounters a skilled enemy in long-range, the other party will kite him to death. That’s why he was looking forward to the skill that he will get next month.

“Don’t worry, he can already handle them alone... In our last mission, he did a good job.” Michael says with a casual smile on his face.

Gregory looked at Fein meaningfully. After all, being complimented by Michael is not a small thing. It means that he was already a qualified spy...

“Well, I also trust his skills. After all, he was very talented that he even manage to beat me in a fight of pure skills in the weapon I specialize in.” Gregory says, with helplessness contained in his voice.

It was Michael’s turn to look at him with surprise. “Well, that means that if he became Rank C, he will already become a formidable warrior, considering that he has already mastered all weapons in our basement.”

“Don’t feed my ego, please!” Fein said with a wary smile.

Michael laughed at Fein’s comment and says. “Hey, we are just saying our assessment in accordance with our observation... After all, your talent in weapons is so unbelievable, even though we know that it has something to do with your ability. You had mastered all the weapons in just three months. If that’s not ridiculous, then I don’t know what is...”

Fein was about to respond when...

*Ding!* Malicious Intent Detected.

The new function of his map suddenly activated itself. A map that shows the forest, one blue dot, three green dots, and one red dot were shown. His guess was... the blue dot is him, while the green dots are his team and the who was driving the carriage and the red dot must be the enemy.

“Guys, I think someone was following us,” Fein told them solemnly.

“What!? how many of them? Why didn’t I even notice them?” Gregory said, with unprecedented seriousness.

“There’s only one, but he should be strong because I only manage to know his presence because of my special ability.” Fein pulled his sword out of the scabbard and jump out of the carriage.

The two also prepared their weapons and followed Fein.

...

After jumping on the carriage, Fein looked at the surroundings and shouted. “Come out, stop hiding, whoever you are. I know that you were following us for some quite time now!”

After waiting for a few minutes, Fein thought that the enemy will not show himself, but in a certain tree, a man walks out with unhurried footsteps. Fein’s eyes widened in fear because the one in front of him was familiar. His body is muscular and fit. He has an X shape scar on his well-defined face and a clean-shaven beard. He just looks at him coldly and raised his hand slowly.

Suddenly a felt a strong force preventing his movement.

‘Shit, why this time!’ Fein was now panicking about the suddenness of the situation.

Fein thought that he will not be coming but now he was here in front of them...

“Jackson!?” Gregory exclaimed loudly in his back.

Michael suddenly appeared beside Fein in the form of a shadow.

“He is using his telekinesis to confine you... I will attack him when that time comes. You run as fast as you can and request reinforcements in the nearby city.” Michael told him while looking at the enemy in front of them warily.

“No, if I run, the two of you will die! I knew that with Captain, we can hold him off.” Fein said with uncertainty.

Gregory walks beside them and looked at Fein with a determined face. “No Fein, you have to go now... This time the enemy is Rank A, we don’t know if we can survive this. I want you to escape as far as you can while we were holding him off.”

Fein looked at the enemy, who had five daggers floating beside him. He gritted his teeth...

‘If I’m only strong enough.’ Fein thought inwardly, blaming himself for his weakness.

Because he was the target, Gregory and Michael know it, but they still decided to buy time for Fein to escape. He can’t help but be moved by this... freewebno vel.com

You can only determine the true face of a person in a life and death situation. Even though they knew that they will die, they still choose to let him escape.

Now, Fein decided to fight with all he got even if this reveals his strength... After all, even if he escapes now, he won’t be able to get that far, and he knew that Michael and Gregory would not be able to buy enough time because the enemy far outclassed them. From the three of them, Fein was aware that the enemy’s abilities perfectly restrained them because he knows Jackson’s abilities based on the book he read from the Library of Vladimir’s Family...
