Chapter 200 Hope

Brandon and Carlo carried the zombie corpse onto the balcony under everyone's terrified gazes. The mangled head caused by Brandon's repeated strike looked very disgusting and it also produced a revolting smell that lingered inside the room.

"Be careful. It's blood might be infectious." Someone said to them.

"Let's throw this thing away." Brandon said.

"You mean down there?" Carlo stared beneath the building while saying this.

"Where else can we discard this corpse?" Brandon stared at him as if he was looking at an idiot.

"Alright. Alright." Carlo helped him throw the corpse away, but he didn't dare watch as it fell to the ground.

After discarding the corpse, the two went back to the room.

"We managed to bring our supplies with us." Arianne, the tomboyish girl said.

"That's good. The situation is more dire than we had thought. It might be impossible for us to go out in the next few days." Brandon said as he put his ears against the wall. He could hear the zombies growling outside the corridor.

"There are zombies outside so you guys should keep your voices down." He warned them.

The others nodded their heads fearfully.

BANG!

A loud noise suddenly echoed. The sound came from the previous room they were hiding and they could hear the zombies stampeding inside the room. They felt lucky that they had already escaped or they would have become a meal for those hungry zombies.

The ladies huddled together and some of them even cried. The gay man joined them and he also cried in fear. The men were also nervous, but they tried to look calm on the surface. Only Brandon was relatively calm in the group.

"Everyone, we shouldn't sleep at the same time. We need to have some people awake to act as a lookout. In case something potentially life-threatening happens, they had to warn the group." Brandon suggested with a serious voice. He had to make some rules to increase the survivability of the group.

"I agree with you. If all of us are asleep when the zombies attack, we wouldn't even know how we will die." Carlo expressed his agreement to the suggestion.

When everyone heard Carlo's words, they were horrified. They quickly nodded their heads.

"I'll go sleep first. The zombies are more active at night so I need to conserve my energy." Brandon said as he took the sofa all by himself.

No one said anything to him. Brandon contributed the most to the group and he was also the de facto leader.

There was a queen-sized bed in the room and another empty sofa. Carlo took the other sofa and everyone agreed to let Celine and Arianne share the bed. Celine was still sick while Arianne also contributed to gathering the supplies. No one was shameless enough to deny Arianne's contribution.

There was a tacit agreement in the group, the four straight males slept during the day and it would be the ladies' turn to sleep at night.

While the men were resting, the girls chatted in low voices.

"Do you think someone will come to rescue us?" Someone asked with tears in her eyes.

"Quezon City has already fallen and I also noticed some policemen among the infected. I think that the government is also struggling to save themselves so the possibility of someone rescuing us is close to impossible."The gay man said.

The girls frowned when they heard his words.

"Don't be such a downer, Jericho." Arianne glared at the gay man.

Jericho raised his eyebrows when he heard Arianne calling him by his real name. "Arianne, stop acting arrogant. Do you think that you are already important because you contributed to gathering our supplies?" He snorted.

"Stop it you two." Someone tried to de-escalate the situation.

Arianne was enraged by his words. She wanted to beat him up, but Celine grabbed her arms and prevented her from worsening the situation.

Arianne stared at Celine and when she saw the latter shaking her head, Arianne could only hold back her fury. She glared at the gay man and flipped the finger at him.

The gay man gritted his teeth, but he also held back the impulse to make the first move. He didn't want to thoroughly oppose her. He was only expressing his thoughts on their circumstances.

"Why are you guys so noisy?" Brandon sat up and rubbed his head while looking at the ladies with a cold gaze.

Upon realizing that they made him wake up, Arianne and the gay man were both ashamed of themselves.

"Sorry, Brandon." Arianne expressed her apology, while the gay man looked away from him.

"I already told you guys to lower your voice. If I hear you two shouting again, I will have to ask you to gather the next supplies." Brandon's voice was cold and his face was stern. He had to ensure that these people wouldn't do anything foolish that could endanger the whole group.

Arianne and the gay man lowered their heads in silence.

Seeing this, Brandon didn't say anything and went back to sleep.

This time, the ladies only chatted in hushed voices.

Soon, night arrived and the men woke up one after another. The first one to wake up was Carlo and the last one to wake up was Brandon.

"You guys can sleep now. We'll keep watch tonight." Brandon said as he grabbed a bottle of Starbucks coffee.

The others stared at him in envy when they saw the coffee in his hand. Brandon saw their expression, but he didn't say anything. He used his life to take this bottle so he didn't want to give it up.

Carlo walked up to him and said. "I heard that there was a conflict between Jericho and Arianne earlier."

Brandon took a sip of his coffee before he scoffed at him. "I didn't know that you were the type to gossip, Carlo."

Carlo scratched his head in embarrassment. "Come on! It's so boring here. Our phones are already dead so we have nothing to do but talk about random things. Gossiping is a good way to pass time."

Brandon shook his head at his words.

"Brandon, do you think the government will come to rescue us?" Carlo suddenly asked.

Brandon turned his head and saw a serious look on his face. Seeing this, he put down the bottle of coffee and replied. "I'm not sure either. The entire Quezon City is already infested with zombies so it would be dangerous even for the army. If I were a government official, I would suggest bombing this location to prevent the virus from spreading to other cities."

His words stunned Carlo. "That sounds like something you would do." He mumbled.

Silence enveloped them, making the atmosphere awkward.

Tocotocotocotocotoco!

Tocotocotocotocotoco!

The sound of a helicopter approaching made them raise their heads in shock.

"Is it the army?" Carlo asked with a face filled with hope.

"Let's go and take a look." Brandon stood up and headed to the balcony.

Carlo grabbed a flashlight and followed him. The two other guys also followed them to the balcony.

They saw a black helicopter flying towards them. The helicopter was equipped with weapons and this made them think that it was from the army.

"It's really the army!" Brandon's eyes lit up. He grabbed the flashlight from Carlo's hand and turned it on. He then aimed the flashlight at the helicopter in hopes that it would attract the pilot's attention.

"It's the army! We're saved!" The former bot scout shouted in joy.

Carlo quickly smacked his head. "Shut up, you idiot! The zombies might hear you!"

The ladies were awoken by the sound of the helicopter. They also went to the balcony to check the situation and when they saw the black helicopter, their eyes flashed with hope.

"We are soldiers sent to rescue you. Just stay put and wait for us to go down." A loud megaphone coming from the helicopter echoed in all directions.

Brandon's group heard this and it made them scream in excitement. Even Brandon who was usually stoic couldn't contain his joy.

The Black Dragon Assault Helicopter landed on the building opposite them. Soldiers came out from the helicopter.

Meanwhile, hundreds of zombies gathered beneath the building. They were attracted by the noise.

Brandon saw this and it made him frown. "There's only one helicopter so there won't be many soldiers. Will they be able to handle all the zombies down there?"

"We should trust them, buddy. They are our only hope now." Carlo patted his shoulder.

Brandon nodded his head and didn't say anything. He prayed in his heart that nothing would happen to the soldiers.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

Ratatatatata! Ratatata!

Brandon's group heard gunshots in the opposite building. From the intensity of the gunshots, the group could tell that there were a lot of zombies. Furthermore, their numbers were increasing as more zombies were attracted by the gunshots.

Everyone prayed for the safety and the success of the soldiers.
