He pulled the trigger, spraying his last bullets towards the incoming giant zombie.

"Haa!!!" Mark shouted with a fierce look. He aimed for the zombie's head, but it actually raised its thick arms to protect itself. His bullets landed on the giant zombie's arms, making it bleed.

The zombie let out a defiant roar as it grabbed a huge stone and hurled towards Mark.

"Sh*t!" Mark cursed as he quickly jumped to the side.

Bang!

The huge stone broke into pieces on the spot where he last stood. Mark felt a chill in his heart as he turned his gaze back to the giant zombie. 'Just how strong is this guy?!'

After failing to kill its prey, the giant zombie angrily lunged towards Mark. It clenched its right hand, veins protruded on its arm. It then released a powerful punch that caused the air to fluctuate intensely.

Mark moved his body sideways, narrowly dodging the devastating blow.

Swoosh!

The strength behind the punch made him recoil in shock. 'Dammit! This thing moves faster than a human! Just what kind of zombie is this?!'

Mark quickly grabbed his rifle and sprinted towards the tower. 'I should have bought them enough time to escape. I have to leave here quickly or I will become a meal for this beast!' There were normal zombies in front of him, but he accurately shot them down with a bullet to their heads.

While running, he checked his remaining ammo. He found out that he only had two magazines left. 'This should be enough!' He muttered in his heart.

More zombies were attracted by the gunshots and they all swarmed towards him.

Surrounded on all sides, Mark emptied his remaining bullets to kill the zombies in front of him. Seven zombies fell, giving him a narrow path to escape. He grabbed the knife attached to his rifle before throwing the rifle away.

The metal gates of the tower were already in his sights.

He avoided the zombies and sprinted with all his might. His chest felt heavy from all the running earlier, but he didn't stop. He pushed and kicked the zombies blocking his path, but a zombie managed to scratch his arm.

Mark's face fell when he felt the tingling pain in his right arm. He noticed three claw marks dripping with blood. 'No!' He shouted in his heart.

"Sir, quick! Get inside!" He heard the voices of his subordinates and a series of gunshots. He raised his head and saw his four buddies shooting down the zombies chasing after him.

Mark gritted his teeth and jumped towards the partially opened gate. After he got in, his subordinates quickly closed the gate.

"Go inside! There's a monster among them! We can't handle that thing!" Mark shouted as he stood up.

"Yes, sir!" They quickly headed inside the tower.

Mark turned his head and saw the giant zombie crushing the metal gate with its bare hands.

Bang!

Roooaarrr!!!

It released a furious roar and bulldozed its way towards them. Some zombies who were blocking its path were thrown away.

Mark quickly shut the main door of the tower and led his men towards the upper floors. "Where are the researchers?" He asked while covering his wounded arm.

"They are heading towards the rooftop."

One of his subordinates noticed his wound. "Sir, were you... were you injured by them?" He asked.

The other three looked at him worriedly.

Mark furrowed his eyebrows. "It's alright. I'll kill myself if I feel that I'm about to turn into a zombie." He muttered.

The four soldiers turned silent upon hearing his words.

"Don't look at me like that. Who knows? Maybe I won't turn into one." He forced out a smile as he led them upstairs. Electricity was out and the elevator was no longer working so they had to use the stairs.

The soldiers followed him with mixed expressions.

On their way to the top, they could still hear the commotion on the lower floors.

"They must have followed us here because of the scent of my blood." Mark muttered as he looked beneath them. He could hear the furious roar of the giant zombie.

"You guys go and protect the researchers. I'll lead them away!" Mark said with a determined look.

"Sir..."

"There's no need to persuade me. " Mark shook his head. "This is the last thing I can do for you guys. Now go!"

After saying those words, Mark went downstairs and shouted to attract the zombies' attention.

The eyes of the four soldiers reddened as they watched his back.

"Sorry, sir..." They cried as they headed upstairs.

Meanwhile, Mark went to the middle floors to attract all the zombies towards him. "I'm here you b*tches!"

While running through the hallway, a loud 'bang' suddenly echoed in front of him. It was the giant zombie!

Mark looked behind him and saw dozens of zombies filling the hallway. There was no more escape path.

Mark turned his gaze back towards the giant zombie and grinned as he grabbed the grenade on his belt. "I will take you down with me!" He shouted as he pulled the pin of the grenade while running towards the giant zombie.

As if enraged by his provocative gaze, the giant zombie roared and raised its arm. It then threw a punch at him.

Roooaaarrr!!!

"Haaa!!!" Mark shouted fiercely. He turned his body, but he was still hit by the zombie's punch. Left with no choice, he could only throw the grenade towards the zombie.

BOOOOM!!!

***

The soldiers and the two researchers were shocked when they heard the loud explosion coming from the middle floors.

The two researchers noticed that the four soldiers were crying after they heard the explosion. They thought about the missing team leader and connected the dots.

The middle-aged researcher sighed as he plopped down on the floor. He took off his glasses and cleaned the lens using the fabric of his pants.

The old researcher looked away and shook his head with a heavy sigh.
