271 Then I’ll Marry You
Shen Yin suddenly thought of a possibility and felt uncertain.
As she walked down the stairs, she anxiously dialed Li Zi’s number, but someone kept hanging up.
Shen Yin walked out of the stairwell on the first floor and was caught off guard when she saw two figures in the distance. Only then did she relax. Just as she was wondering if she should go forward, the phone in her pocket suddenly rang.
Shen Yin hurriedly hid behind a corner and answered the call. “Hello?”
There was a moment of silence on the other end of the phone before Lian Jing’s deep and magnetic voice sounded. “Where are you?”
Shen Yin’s heart was beating like a drum. She stammered, “I-I’m at the mall.”
Lian Jing frowned. He could tell that something was wrong from her tone. “Who are you with? Did something happen to you?”
“No, nothing. It’s not me who is in trouble.” Shen Yin sighed and quietly poked her head out to see the two figures in the distance who had not gone far. She lowered her voice and said, “It’s Li Zi’s former crush. He’s here.”
Lian Jing relaxed and said calmly, “Since it has something to do, you can come home first.”
“No!” Shen Yin refused decisively. “I’m worried that something will happen to Li Zi. I’ll go back later. I’ll hang up first. Be good.”
There was no sound from the cell phone. Lian Jing’s eyes turned cold and he slowly put down his cell phone. He snorted and asked the chauffeur to drive him home so he could spend time with his son.
After Shen Yin dealt with Lian Jing, she quietly peeked out to look at the two people who seemed to be arguing, but they had vanished.
Shen Yin’s anxiety levels rose again. She hurriedly walked out of her hiding place and began to search the interior and surroundings of the mall.
Li Zi’s eyes were red as she followed the man. She sounded aggrieved. “Give me back my phone. Yin Yin will be worried if she can’t find me after so long.”
Xie Ming walked in front without saying a word. When he heard her words, he even deliberately quickened his pace and brought her out of the mall.
He did not know where to take Li Zi. He just wanted the little girl who always trailing after him to be willing to accompany him again.
Li Zi was shorter than him and her legs were shorter than his. She had to jog to keep up with him.
Seeing that he was leading her further and further away, Li Zi hurriedly stopped him and grabbed his arm while panting. “Stop walking. I can’t walk anymore. Xie Ming, what exactly do you want to say to me?”
What did he want to say to her?
Xie Ming’s eyes were red. He suddenly turned around and glared at her fiercely. He thought about how he had bumped into her just now and heard her sweetly talking to another man on the phone, and how she was smiling in a way that had been reserved only for him in the past. He was so angry that he wanted to kill her.
Now, she was boldly asking him what he wanted to say to her. She had promised to always love him!
The more Xie Ming thought about it, the angrier he became. His chest heaved up and down violently, and his fists were subconsciously clenched tightly, as if he was about to hit someone.
Li Zi’s heart skipped a beat and she shrank back in fear. “What’s wrong with you? Did you quarrel with your fiancée?”
“What fiancée?” Xie Ming frowned impatiently. After a while, he remembered who she was talking about and rubbed his brow in frustration. “That was arranged for me by my family. I don’t like her at all.”
“Oh.” Li Zi nodded indifferently.
Xie Ming was furious when he saw her attitude. He could not help growling, “Who said you could have a boyfriend? You’re too young to have a boyfriend! Didn’t you say that you wanted to focus on your career?”
Li Zi had liked him for so many years and was subconsciously afraid that he would be angry. However, she felt that she should clarify some things now.
Li Zi subconsciously gulped and explained softly, “Xie Ming, I’m already 27 years old. I should be married.”
Xie Ming was slightly stunned. He widened his eyes in disbelief at the little girl, whom he had always easily brushed aside.
Her oval face was paired with large, adorable eyes. One could not tell that she was 27 years old at all.
However, she had reached a certain age. The little girl who used to follow him around was now a civil servant working in the National Prosecutor’s Office.
She said that she should get married…
He thought that he still had time to fool around. But time had flown and he had made her waste so many years.
Why had he never noticed…
The suffocating feeling of losing Li Zi almost drowned him. After a while, he raised his dark eyes and stared at Li Zi seriously. “Then I’ll marry you. If you want to get married, marry me.”
“No.” Li Zi refused without thinking. “I have a boyfriend now. If I want to consider marriage, I’ll consider it with him, not you. Besides, you already have someone to marry.”
“I told you I don’t like her at all!” The veins on Xie Ming’s forehead bulged. The word ‘boyfriend’ was like a knife that stabbed his heart, making him wish he was dead.
