" They found her somewhere in Europe, but seeing that she understands English and her facial features, that's understandable." She paused.
" But she hasn't uttered a single word since I got involved with her. What's strange is that I have never seen her this relaxed with anyone excluding a few people that originally took care of her. You couldn't even imagine my surprise when she clung to you at the airport." She explained.
" What did the doctors say?" Samuel asked.
" There is nothing wrong with her vocal cords. When we found her, she was covered in bruises, but after months of treatment, the outer scars have healed, but her mind, not so much. They say it's something psychological and would need special love and care to overcome those, which is why I brought her home a few days ago." She elaborated.
" Her name is Elise, right? I can try to deploy a few of my people if you tell me where you found her."
" That's impossible; it's a name we picked up when she came into our care."
" You mean.."
" Yes, I remembered when you briefly told me about your past. The girl who gave you those green eyes... It was in the spur of the moment. ahaha" She chuckled awkwardly.
Samuel was a little touched; he didn't know she was still thinking about him over the years. He also felt a little guilty for not being in contact with her.
" That's very thoughtful of you, but why didn't you invite me to your wedding?" Samuel tried to change the subject.
"That's..." She looked a little gloomy for a second, and it didn't go unnoticed under Samuel's careful gaze.
" It's alright; you don't have to tell me if it's a touchy subject."
" No, it's fine. I feared I would make you the groom instead if I saw you at my wedding!" She chuckled.
" Again, with this! You are spilling all your secrets to me. Don't you regret it when I meet him in person?" Samuel teased back.
" You mean my husband?"
" Yes!"
" I don't! Because we love each other very much!" She didn't weaver under his pressure to expose her.
" I am happy you found someone," Samuel said sincerely. He could feel her love when she talked about him, excluding the part about making it weird.
" Oh, It's good that Elise woke up. Can you drive a little faster? I am going to be late for work." She asked him.
" Work?"
" Yeah, it's not far from here. We will be reaching the place soon."
" What about the little girl? What about me?"
She didn't answer, only smiled sweetly. It seemed like Samuel had fallen into one of her traps again. After reaching the destination, they exited the car, leaving the little girl behind for a brief second. Yelling in front of her was not good, so he didn't fight when they were driving.
" Mayra?"
" I was hoping to bring her around, but now that I have seen how behaved she is around you. Why don't you tour the city together?"
" You are leaving her with me just like that? Isn't it irresponsible?"
" Everything is in the car, any documents you need on her. I am sure no one would suspect a thing besides that I hurriedly rushed to the airport to meet you, so I never made any plans with my office. It's tough to manage an organization when relying on fundraisers." She sighed.
" What about your husband? I can drop her off at your place." Samuel suggested.
" No can do; it's bad for her to be alone. I must go now but don't forget to pick me up in the evening!" She tried to flee, but Samuel grabbed her arm and jerked her back reflexively.
He was too dumbfounded and accidentally used a little extra force, making her fall on him. Trying to protect her fall, he grabbed the first thing he could find, and it just happened to be her two pronounced mounds.
" Ahh," He tried to get her off but ended up coping with a feeling which made her suddenly moan.
" I am sorry!" He immediately got up, but the damage was done. She blushed heavily while sitting down, looking at him with hateful eyes. He really did cross a line!
" I am sorry...It happened so fast..." He tried to make an excuse, but she didn't say anything and just stood up and stared at him for a few seconds.
" You really are obsessed with them, feeling them up in public like this!" She exclaimed, but her angry face just made her more cute with all that red on her face.
" I am-"
" You have to take responsibility now! I will see you in the evening!" She fled the scene not before giving him a charming smile, and that was oddly reminiscing of their past when the same thing happened, and she gave the same answers too!
Samuel could only sigh and enter the car, where the little girl stared at him. She made the decision even before consulting her first! So irresponsible!
" Elise, I am Samuel. It's nice to meet you." He tried talking to her, but she only gave him a smile in return.
" Your mother. I mean, Mayra just left. Will you be alright with me?" He asked gently, to which she meekly nodded her head. Seeing how cute she looked, it instantly melted his heart.
But the next moment, her loose dress fell over one of her shoulders, revealing a heinous scar on her collarbone. It took Samuel by surprise, but after that, he felt rage. When he reviewed Elise's details, he felt Mayra didn't even scratch the surface.
The temperature started dropping as his mind began to overload thinking about who dared to do such a thing to a young child, but suddenly he felt small trembling hands on his cheek. Elise was shivering, but she forced herself and, for some reason, tried to console him.
He could see her clear blue eyes as he stood between his legs, looking directly into his eyes. It's as if to say everything was going to be okay. How could someone show mental fortitude at such a young age? Samuel didn't know the answer, but he dedicated this day to this little girl. , Besides, he didn't have better to do.
" I am fine; thanks for cheering me up." Samuel gave her a smile and fixed her clothes. He noticed her appearance was a little unkempt and thought he could start there.
" Today, Elise will be a princess! I will do everything that my Highness commands!" He declared loudly. She giggled, seeing him return to normal but refusing to leave his side. He put her on his lap and started the car; he already knew their first destination!
