While the three of them were busy in front of the guild, Zack was busy fighting Ezio
Both of them were staring at each other while floating in the sky. Portals behind Ezio were still wide open and the undead kept on pouring out of them.
Zack knew that if the portals were not closed the capital would be in ruins.
Eva was flying below them and was fighting more than half of the horde. The red-head was somehow fighting all of them without even sweating.
Zack then decided to use the Daggers of Sky. The daggers flew forward as he hid behind them and used them as a cover.
The duke didn't even bat an eye towards the daggers and simply lifted his palm in Zack's direction.
All the beasts coming out from one of the portals suddenly changed their direction as they flew directly towards Zack.
The latter gritted his teeth as he called the daggers back and changed Chastiefol to its third form.
"Solar Beam!"
A green ray of energy shot out from behind Zack where a huge sunflower had grown from the ground.
The green ray went directly inside the portolEzio had pointed towards of him.
All of the beasts were torn apart by the incoming beam. Though he manged to kill some of the incoming horde but the one that were flying in his direction reached too close.
They had easily dodged the solar beam and were still advancing.
One of them, a half-human half-bat, opened its mouth and released a glass shattering scream.
Zack carefully closed his ears using the Echo-location skill, thus decreasing his hearing.
[ You shouldn't use such techniques in the middle of a battle.] Eva gently reminded as a thick needle with a dangerously pointed end shot behind Zack.
He turned back to see the vanishing body of a vampire like flying creature.
The creature, who looked just like a human except with two bat wings and sharp-pointed canines, had the needle stuck right through his skull.
Zack quickly recovered his hearing and turned the huge flower back into the daggers.
He then controlled the daggers to surround him in a protective circle.
[ I had my back covered, but regardless thank you.] Zack replied to Eva's reminder.
The red-head woman could only sigh at Zack's behavior as she focused on protecting the capital again.
With a small smile on his face, Zack decided to go in and directly attack Ezio.
He dashed at a speed of lightning and punched forward. Blue flames downs along his fists as the blow connected with Ezio's face.
The Duke couldn't do anything about the unexpected punch as he was thrown towards the east direction. Zack finally got the time to stare at the portals .
Despite Ezio being thrown of the portals were still open. The beast paid back Zack zero attention as they kept on landing on the ground.
Testingly, Zack used solar beam again and shot the green beam directly inside one of the portals.
For a few minutes, no new beast poured out of the portal. But that didn't last for long.
'Five minutes…' Zack had only been able to stop the advance of the undead for five minutes before they had started pouring out of the portal again.
[ Eva, I think it would be better if we directly attack them from here and ask the others to protect the city from the remaining undead. ] Zack sent a message to Eva as she flew up beside him.
[ Let's try doing it for a few seconds. If it works, we will switch to this method. ] She replied while raising both of her hands in two of the portals directions.
Metals rods rushed out from the palm of her hands as they hit the incoming undead directly in the head, thus killing them on impact.
Eva continued to control those same rods until they reached inside the portal and suddenly went out of control.
She then kept the rods in front of the portal and attacked those coming out.
Zack on the other hand used Chastiefol's third form to repeatedly attack the portal throwing out flying beasts while attacking the other one using his Eirias.
Blue flame fireballs and slashes flew directly towards the portals and killed tens of undead at once.
Despite the duo's attacks, quite a number of undead were still spilling down below. However Lisa, Ken and Hayden were there to handle the remainder.
Emma on the other hand had vanished from the capital as she had gone to take a round of the kingdom to see whether such events were happening anywhere else.
Over ten minutes had passed since her departure yet she hadn't told anything. Zack decided to give her another ten minutes before contacting her himself.
'I don't need to be worried about her. After all, she can handle many opponents at once and Icarus and Daedalus are with her too.'
After thinking that, Zack released a deep sigh and let Lance take over his body for some time. The reason for this was so that he could look at how the others were doing and what was happening with Jonathan.
'Lance, make sure that we don't die here.'
[ Do I even need to be reminded that? ]
'Yes, you do.' Zack then closed his eyes and let his body stay lose. When his eyes opened up, they were pure amber colored.
His blue flames were then replaced by amber ones as Lance completely took over his body and started killing the undead in a similar manner.
Eva also realized that Zack had vanished from his body and decided to send a few pieces of metal around his body just in case Lance slipped up.
'Even she doesn't trust me…' The Phoenix thought with a sigh as he continued to focus on killing the undead.
Zack on the other hand was flying through the capital or rather, his consciousness was flying through the capital.
He could glance over the entire place easily as he went over his friends to check on their condition. Ken and Lisa were easily able to protect the streets alongside Silvie.
The monk and the swan were a deadly team as they managed to kill hundreds of undead in a single blow.
Lisa on the other hand was focusing completely on defense as she made sure that none of them were hurt.
Hayden was holding completely on his own, marking him as someone from a different league. His axe had become more deadly as well since he had leveled up multiple times.
Zack didn't need to worry about any of them as he made his way to where Ezio had landed. He was worried that the duke was planning something since he still hadn't gotten up.
Though Zack knew that his punch had hit hard, especially with his flames wrapped around his fist, Ezio shouldn't be taking that much time to get up.
But when he arrived on the sight, his jaw dropped down.
"Ezio, I wonder if what Zack said was the truth or not. I would like to hear that from you." Jonathan laid on the ground with the duke pointing his index finger towards his forehead.
Zack cursed aloud as he sent his consciousness back to his body and shifted back with Lance.
[ All of you, get here and take care of the portals! I am going away to make sure Jonathan doesn't die due to his foolishness. ]
Zack sent the message to all of his teammates before he rushed to the east of the capital at full speed with his flames running around freely around his body.
He reached the spot in a matter of seconds as he slowed down his speed in hopes of being able to sneak around to help Jonathan.
The king had his eyes half closed in a submissive manner as Ezio towered above him. The duke was completely silent but didn't kill Jonathan.
It was as though he was struggling to attack him or rather, something prevented him from doing that.
"What did he tell you?" Ezio asked in a hoarse voice as Jonathan recited the truth.
Ezio's expressionless face suddenly started twitching before he released a sigh at the end of Jonathan's tale.
"Its the truth," He murmured. "But I was happy. Much happier then I ever was with the golden dusk guild. However, I am completely under their control and in a few minutes, I will have to kill you."
Ezio then bent down and offered his hand to Jonathan who held it and stood up.
"Please kill me before that happens…" Ezio added slowly as he bent down on one knee and looked down at the ground.
Jonathan's face went completely emotionless as he placed one of his hands on Ezio's shoulder and released a sigh.
"You think I will do that?"
"You will if it threatens the lives of the citizens and if I kill you, who will look after them?"
"Damn it…" Jonathan took a deep breath before he closed his eyes and tightened his grip of Ezio's shoulder. "If only you didn't know me that well."
"You shouldn't have opened up to me then." Ezio replied as Zack could see that the duke had a sad smile on his face.
'How did he even break free of the control?' That was the only thought that kept on bugging Zack.
[ Magic? ] Lance suggested.
'Thats like a duh reply…' Zack replied while facepalming before looking forward.
Jonathan was staring at the sky before he decided to not waste anymore time and risk Ezio going out of control.
"Flames Of Samsara." Jonathan said gently as white flames surrounded Ezio's body as he slowly started vanishing.
The duke didn't say anything as his body completely vanished. Jonathan stood there with a dazed expression before he sat down and stared at the sky.
Zack on the other hand had his jaw dropped down and so did Lance.
