As Adam moved his body, trying to get used to the hunger eating away at his body and mind, a voice that he had not heard in quite some time flowed into his mind, making him aware of its existence and giving him important advice as usual.

[You should take a look at your stats right now.]

'Oh! Genesis.'

For an instant, Adam truly thought that it was the voice from one of his minds rather than Genesis talking here.

However, he was fast to realize that it was the ever-present Genesis that was always with him in the real world.

He missed it during his journey to the world of dreams and was also one of the core reasons he had created the Psychiatrist Adam persona.

It was a sort of coping mechanism for him to fill in the void of Genesis' existence.

'Damn…! You know, I missed you quite a bit during my adventure on the land of dreams.'

Adam chuckled in his mind when he saw Genesis ignore him and did as he was asked initially by the inorganic book spirit.

'Well, it had been a long time since the last time I took a look at the pages of my stats. As good a time as any, I suppose.'

[Book]

As always, the ancient biblical-themed book with an apple on its withered golden covers opened up in front of him and hurriedly turned before finally landing on the page that detailed his stats.

Adam's eyes narrowed. All in all, his ability had not changed too much. The only true noticeable change that he was able to witness though was the appearance of the Resistance section.

Which once again wasn't much surprising to him. It was just the book adjusting the display to help him have a better idea of what was going on with his abilities and his body.

But there was something that was bothering him.

'Fire? Electricity?'

Did he by some chance unknowingly get struck by lightning while he was unconscious?

Otherwise, there was really no way for him to explain the current stats that he was seeing in the resistance section.

The same went with fire. Outside of burning his hand, there was really nothing he had done for him to receive fire resistance. And the last time he checked, burning his hand did jack shit in upgrading his resistance.

Unless…

Adam's mind flashed as he remembered the circumstances that he had to go through during the struggle that led to his death not long ago.

He had indeed been struck by the lightning of the Jabberwock, before exploding himself in a supernova.

'Don't tell me?'

Adam closed his eyes and groaned out loud.

Just to summarize the situation…

On one side, he suffered through pain that was unable to be explained in mere human words for more than two days.

Only to get D+ resistance in Poison. One had to remember that what he used wasn't just any poison but a weakened version of a mythical poison from Medusa herself that was said to bring immediate death to anyone.

Even then the results were pathetically low.

Back then, this made Adam summarize that while Adaptation was a very powerful skill, it wasn't something he would have to care much about before years or even decades.

It seemed like he had been wrong.

Simply getting his arms blown away by lightning and killing himself once with fire was enough for him to garner two F rank resistances?

'Fuck this shit.'

Adam rolled on the bed and cursed again and again at the unfairness of it all, wishing he could simply bury himself and forget all this shit and his life along with it.

'Genesis, what does it mean?'

He had already come to a conclusion but he wished to have a second opinion.

[I do not have enough information.]

'Oh. True. You weren't there. So yeah, here's what happened.'

Adam started his story and tried to make the situation as clear as possible.

Even now, retelling them like this allowed him to see how crazy what he went through was.

Genesis listened quietly as Adam explained to him the situation that he had to go through in the Dreamscape.

In the end, he came to the same conclusion as Adam but with more understanding and explanations that he was not able to come upon due to the pain.

[Dreamscape is a place where you travel with your mind and soul. We still do not know all the parameters of Adaptation. But it's logical to think that damage to the soul takes higher precedence than damage to the body and mind. There's nothing more fitting to explain this scenario.]

Adam groaned further and nodded, acknowledging the hypothesis that Genesis brought up.

'Adaptation must be working on overdrive to make me stronger and more resistant to death.'

It was nothing but a theory but it was rather realistic with the information they had in hand and the clear results.

He should be happy.

Truly, he should be happy to have figured out such a way to increase the usage of Adaptation.

This would mean that he could train more efficiently in the Dreamscape and accelerate the acquisition of more and more resistance.

But—

'Ugh. I feel like I just suffered for nothing.'

The sad thing was, it seemed like he would have to torture himself even in the world of Dream from now on.
