After questioning the assassin's offer to cooperate and wasting as much time as he could to reduce the bleeding from his wounds and think up a way to take him down, Xavier was hoping for a short while longer. However, the assassin suddenly lost his temper, realising the ulterior motives behind Xavier's questions.

"Stop stalling! And it's too late now. I've decided I'll kill you, both those bastards that fought us off and the target. Then I'll keep all the money for myself," bellowed the last remaining assassin.

And when he did, the reaction he received was far from what he was expecting.

The hidden figure who was only in his underwear suddenly burst out into laughter despite the severity and intensity of their current situation.

"What kind of assassin speaks so much and tries to negotiate?" Xavier mocked, before continuing to laugh.

"I must say, you surprised me at the start with your grappling hook thing, but you guys are far from professionals. If it was me, I would have shot everyone down and already left in a matter of seconds, but I guess you're just an idiot."

Xavier continued to laugh before abruptly falling silent. Since the assassin had fallen silent, Xavier knew that he was approaching him, but that was exactly what he expected and wanted. His skills couldn't be denied. He didn't even make a sound as he closed in on Xavier's location, which wasn't difficult to find from how loudly he was laughing and talking.

However, as the assassin suddenly lunged forward, aiming his gun at where he believed Xavier was, he was dumbfounded to find that he wasn't there. His plan of action was too obvious and since he was desperate and knew that Xavier had been shot twice, he decided to take him on head-on.

But he underestimated Xavier too much, and all he found on the ground was a small puddle of blood. Then, before he could even react or start to rethink how he went about things, he suddenly felt murderous intent behind him. A chill ran down his spine and his instincts were screaming at him to get away. However, subconsciously, his body gave up, and it was as if he had been frozen in place.

Pouncing on him from behind, Xavier wrapped his legs around his waist before placing a knife on his neck. The man was unbelievably strong to the point that even with Xavier latched on to him, he still stood with relative ease. However, he knew that his life was in the hands of the unknown youth that was on his back.

"Who paid you to do this?" questioned Xavier.

As the assassin weighed out his options and considered whether he should answer, Xavier pressed down on the knife, drawing some blood. f reewebnovel.com

"You're going to die either way, you're better off..."

However, before Xavier could finish what he was about to say, he felt danger and reflexively slashed his throat. In a final bid to save himself, the assassin attempted to aim his gun at Xavier, so he had no choice. And so, before he could even get any answers, warm blood splattered onto his hand and as soon as it did he jumped off the assassin and backed away.

Standing a few metres away from the man, Xavier watched as he shook uncontrollably while clutching his slit throat frantically. However, it was to no avail as blood poured out of it, which he then began to choke on, as the life in his eyes began to fade.

From the point of having his neck slashed to death, the assassin suffered for a few seconds. However, Xavier didn't look away and watched the consequences of what he did.

Was he bad?

He couldn't help but ask himself.

However, he also asked himself, was the assassin also bad?

They merely fought for what they wanted or what suited them best. The assassin for money, and Xavier for his own benefit, since he'd be more likely to form a partnership with the girl he just saved. So, in their own eyes, they weren't wrong, but the one getting in their way was the one that they considered bad.

It was all subjective. (f)reewebnovel.com

Feeling like a monster as everything started to sink in, Xavier snapped out of the state of self-loathing that he was falling into as he remembered those he cared about and what he wanted to achieve.

'I can think about this another time,' he said to himself before rushing over to the 2 men that had fought against the assassins while he had hidden.

Both had numerous cuts, bruises, and bullet wounds. It was a miracle that either of them was still breathing.

Carrying them both over to the centre of the penthouse and ripping off their clothes, using them for emergency first aid, Xavier was starting to feel lightheaded from the amount of blood that he had lost. He knew that once the adrenaline wore off, he'd struggle to even move around.

So it was even more critical to act quickly, which was exactly what he did.

He rushed over to the girl that was hiding behind a cluster of furniture that Xavier had placed around her. He had done all he could to reduce the bleeding of the 2 men, but if they didn't receive medical attention soon, it would be too late. But there wasn't much he could do about that and their survival was out of his hands, with Xavier trying his best to keep his mind clear.

Heading over to where the girl was hiding, she heard footsteps coming her way and could tell that it was only one person. She had no way to tell who it was, but she was also helpless to defend herself as the unknown individual put their hand out to her.

Grabbing onto it, having no choice but to, it was damp with some sort of warm liquid. Realising what it was, she let out a yelp and immediately released his hand. Scrambling to try to get away, she jumped up and flung a chair at the figure who had offered her their hand.

Xavier laughed at her futile attempt at defending herself, slapping the chair away from him with ease even in the weakened state he was in.

"It's just me, calm down little girl," he said to her as she calmed down and looked at the figure before her.

"Why didn't you tell me in the first place?!" she exclaimed in her high-pitched voice.

It was dark, so she could barely see him. However, as she was trying to get a better view of him, the chandeliers suspended above them suddenly lit up once again. It seemed as though they were finally able to get the electricity back up and running.

The sudden influx of bright light caused them both to blink repeatedly to help their eyes adjust to the change in light. But once she could see properly and realised that Xavier was only in his underwear, she immediately blushed.

However, before he could tease her or before she could yell at him, the door that Xavier had entered the penthouse from suddenly swung open. From it came dozens of men in black suits armed with assault rifles, who immediately aimed their weapons at Xavier...
