Song Huifen dropped by at the Feng Mansion to visit her son and her grandchildren that she hadn't seen for a while. Although the responsibility of managing the Qing Tian group was now split between her and Feng Tianyi, she had to be the one who needed to travel around the country, knowing that her son wouldn't be able to leave his family at the moment.
She was currently enjoying a cup of Longjing tea when Little Star came running to her with a few flowers she had picked from the garden. The little girl had a wide grin on her face as she presented the flowers she got for her grandmother.
"Mommy Fen, look what I've got for you!" Little Star said excitedly. "Yu Gege and I started tending the flowers after your last visit."
Song Huifen put down her cup on the table next to her and accepted the little gift she got from her granddaughter. With the Tang twins' birth just around the corner, she had already started planning what to give them on their birthday, but for now, she would accept Little Star's small gift.
"Is that so? Then you better make sure not to cut all the flowers every time someone came to visit you or else you wouldn't be able to enjoy seeing them for too long." She gently pinched her granddaughter's cheek, which earned a giggle from the little girl.
"But thank you for this, Little One. It's been a long time since I received any gift." She added.
"Then if we aren't allowed to pick flowers for Mommy Fen, would a lot of kisses be enough?" Little Star blinked her round eyes cutely to her grandmother.
"Oh, Little One! You really do know how to win our hearts, don't you? Such a sweet girl you are." Song Huifen peppered the girl's cheeks with kisses. It was surprising even for her that her son was able to produce such sweet and smart kids with Tang Moyu.
Thankfully, the twins didn't inherit her son's not so sunny disposition in life. Perhaps her constant absence during his childhood caused Feng Tianyi to turn out like that, but at least with the Tang twins, no matter how her son and Tang Moyu were busy with their work, they were still able to find time to spend with their children.
"That's because Mommy Fen is prettiest when she smiles," Little Star said in a matter-of-fact tone, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. As a young girl, Little Star was fond of cute and beautiful things and liked being pampered as well by their Mommy Fen and parents.
Unlike her twin brother who brooded once in a while, Little Star loved spending time with her mommy and daddy as well as their uncles and aunts. She loved it whenever they spent time and played with her and her brother. However, these past months, it was hard for her to see them, and she had been missing them so badly.
Tang Moyu arrived and joined them at the garden as she came home earlier that afternoon. Since there wasn't much work to do at the office and she was feeling quite lonely without Cheng Ning, she decided to go home instead. Feng Tianyi might still be at Qing Tian with Song Fengyan right now and might come home much later.
"Mom, I didn't know you would be here. I should have returned sooner." She told Song Huifen.
"It's alright, Moyu. I just came back from my business trip and was missing them." She replied, gently touching the soft long locks of Little Star's hair.
She watched with amus.e.m.e.nt as Little Star took a seat on her l.a.p, eating the egg tart she bought for them. Xiao Bao came in with a large dog behind him and joined his sister for a quick afternoon snack.
Once the twins were done, they decided to continue playing, leaving the two women behind, giving them some privacy to talk. Song Huifen took this chance to catch up with her daughter-in-law.
"It must have been hard for you to keep a safe distance from your friends to protect them, Moyu. I heard from Tianyi that you asked them not to look for you at will unless it is important."
When she heard about her daughter-in-law and her siblings's accident, and that Tang Moyu's younger brother had lost his life because of it, Song Huifen was still in Shanghai for a business conference. It was hard for her to abandon her commitments and immediately return to Shenzhen. It took her two weeks before she was able to come back.
"There aren't many options for us until we can locate the culprit. It is as if he vanished from the face of the world without a trace." Tang Moyu said in response. "How I wish all of this would be over soon. I just want to live a happy and peaceful life with my family."
She couldn't believe how that man managed to hide from the authorities and her husband's people, considering they hired one of the best. She was starting to think that maybe they weren't facing just one enemy alone, that someone was colluding against them.
"Ah, you are right. Tianyi said the same thing or maybe someone is helping that man and hiding him." Song Huifen seemed to share her sentiments.
"Half a year is a long time to hide, Mom. I wonder what they are up to this time."
Were they waiting for the perfect time to strike them again? Although Tang Moyu didn't want to live in fear and wished to continue living their own lives before all of this happened, she knew that her husband was still on the edge, knowing there was a threat out there waiting for them.
The empress dowager nodded in agreement. Until they were able to put an end to it, they wouldn't be able to be truly happy and bring justice to Tang Beixuan's death.
